It was easy to teach my daughter the letters with flash cards I made, how to write them, & how to first say their most common sound. Some of the sounds of letters she had already learned in the process of teaching her many words, but a few were perfected over several months. The letter 'r' was easily achieved by 'rrrrrr', the softer sound of an animal growl (without a 'g'), which progressed to words from old "Dick & Jane" books, such as 'run' by first saying 'rrrrrr' - 'rrrrrun'. Learning the 'g' sound came from the already familiar spoken word 'good'... which progressed by adding 'rrrr' to the 'g' for the word 'growl'... 'grrrrrr, growl'. The letter 'L' was learned by seriously watching my tongue forming the sound 'el'... & from there 'ela' and then, we sang 'la, la, la, la'. Some kids have difficulty with 'f' as in 'fish', but by putting her top teeth over her bottom lip and blowing, was easy, and then 'sh' by just putting teeth together & blowing (sometimes I put my finger at my lips (to be softer & quieter) for saying 'shhhhh', 'fish' came easily.
