I'm naturally a soft talker and gentle, but being a medical student it requires me to be cut-glass quick and sharp. Otherwise people think you're stupid and walk all over you... sad.

It isnt uniquely to mediacal students, where ever you go people will try to talk above you to win an argument. I also find loud people are the stupid people. Your better off cutting the conversation and moving on if you can, these types of people arent open for discussion. If its unavoidable, let them finish clear your throat and if they interrupt you tell them you allow them to talk and now its your turn and for them to listen. You are putting up boundaries and to repect you. A great example is what happen recently in Congress with banning Tik Tok. One of the politicians did not allow the Chinese representative to talk. Whenever the Chinese spoke a word, the politician kept saying "yes" every single time, every single word. Guess who looked bad here and who was more favorable plus if you let stupid people run their mouths they dig a deeper hole of idiocracy.

How to have a soft and elegant voice (translated from another comment): - Breathe, the more relaxed your breathing is, the softer you will speak + Exercise, breaths with the diaphragm. + Breathing exercises (exhale, hold 15 seconds, inhale), do it 3 or 4 times. - To be sitting and standing straight. - Speak slowly, take pauses when you are speaking and be comfortable with silences. +Try to read slowly. - Enunciate the words, emphasize what you want to say + Practice with tongue twisters - Use grammar when speaking (do not use slang, profanity, do not cut words) - Expand your vocabulary (read books especially classic books or poetry) - If you speak in a very high tone, practice whispering, but that another person can hear you. -Drink water - Loosens the mouth and vocal cords + Massage the vocal cords - Record yourself speaking. - Practice

Take it from the most aggressive woman ever. One of my exes pointed out that my tone is very angry and loud. No one before him ever corrected me on this. I worked on my tone and conversation style and it helped massively in socializing and connecting with people. Also, men are blown away by soft voice and elegant tone as they find it seductive.

Correct! Think "Jackie Kennedy"! She spoke very Softly & was very careful to keep her conversation centralized around the Person (generally men) she was conversing with. Not talking about herself, kept that Air of Mystery about her. She made them feel like what THEY had to say was suddenly the most interesting thing in the World. It gave her that Allure! I'm 73 & I was fortunate enough to always have a Voice with a Lower Octave. This allowed even Older Men ( usually my Relatives or even a date) enjoyed conversing with me bc not only could they hear me better bc I spoke with Clarity at a Lower Tone, but also bc I was precarious & was interested in the things that they'd done. Such as WWII Veterans talking to me about being a flagman on the runways in England or the Cowboys that worked for my Dad & the Horse Breeders he knew! Some were even Stunt Men for Movies & THAT was Interesting! One Summer I worked at the Local Court House & got to talk to the Sheriff, Deputies & Magistrate! A few of the Women I was Especially Fond of was a State Senator (who was also a local Rancher) An Artist, A few Teachers, an Author, a couple of Women were from Foreign Countries, Religious Leaders, ppl who'd Traveled etc. All were ready to talk & said I was easy to talk to bc I didn't "get up on that High Hysterical Excited Tone that alot of Girls/Adult Women talked on & I didn't always talk about myself"! I guess that's kind of a Secret Formula, if you want to know the Truth!

In the case case of this woman she actually does sound weak, but that’s the least of her problems. She sounds unintelligent and goofy too, why is she whispering? Now one can be soft spoken and eloquent, my mother and father are great examples of that. It’s not the case for her.

I think an approachable and nice voice is always needed because I personally get scared of really strong or loud voices and, on the contrary, when someone speaks softly I get less nervous and that helps me open up! On another note... I am VERY guilty of talking at the speed of sound, I'll definitely work on that! ;')
@littlecupofstars

I needed to hear that tip about speaking more slowly. I often try to talk too fast and end up tripping over my words. I'm an introvert who doesn't like talking a lot in general, so I feel like I need to rush to get out what I have to say as quickly as possible. Definitely going to have to work on improving that.

For me, the more important things are: clarity, gentleness, and smoothness. These three things, to me, make a voice elegant. Then I, of course, prefer a deeper voice; if a person has those 3 things, their voice is pleasant even if it's not deep. And naturally, vocabulary is most important when it comes to elegance in speech.

I’ve always had a naturally loud voice and as a woman I absolutely hate it!! Just another thing that’s wrong and unfeminine about me. People are always annoyed with me - I actually started working from home in part because I just felt so disruptive to everyone around me in the office even though it was never on purpose. I think people just underestimate how hard it is to be constantly policing your voice every time you speak, always worried that you are offending someone. It creates so much anxiety. I’m very self conscious of my voice. Be grateful if you have a soft voice, especially as a woman. People will like you better for it!

By default I have been recording myself reading books because my son has a processing delay in retaining information from texts. It also has helped me to slow my speech down because by doing this we are expanding his vocabulary because his processing speed causes him anxiety and unfortunately "hatred" to reading books. His improvement is slow, but I have noticed better spelling, better word choices, larger words and just better writing in general from him. In a way having to do the recordings has improved both of our handicaps.

So glad I found you! I do not like my voice! I speak too loud and am aware of it so I am working on it . This is my main concern.- volume. Part of the issue is I have a low voice for a female and it is hard for me to hear. I don't over talk - I get to the pint and try to make it clear and interesting. I concentrate on listening more and talking less. This way the communication is better. A LOUD voice is not good so therefor I am really working on this. Thank you to Jamila!

This is yet more confirmation that I need to learn to slow down when I speak. Anxiety makes me rush, rushing makes me stumble, and stumbling makes me anxious. It's a vicious cycle of my own making. Even speaking in my head I stumble over my own words. And practice is so important. Due to life circumstances nowadays I speak a lot less, I spend days in a row where I don't speak at all, and after months my diction is considerably worse, which compounds on the aforementioned anxiety. Lack of practice can make you regress your speech, as I'm finding out. If only I were the kind to speak to myself 😆 Jokes aside, my clarity needs work, even if I don't intend to sound like the Queen.

Ny natural speech is quick and very bubbly, great when someone needs positive energy or enthusiasm, but is far from ideal in most professional situations. Working on improving my ability to speak slow and elegantly has led to senior management taking my suggestions into consideration more frequently. Speaking slow and clear when being interrupted is by far the best strategy to being heard, do not raise voice and engage in screaming battles.

Hey Jamila. Like always, it is a delight to hear you talk. But my question is out of context. May I please know where did you get this cup on the table? I am loving it. Thanks for the amazing content as always 💕
