Might give this a go! I make wooden coasters painted with emulsion paint. I've went through numerous and like yourself spent a lot of money on different varnishes etc and they all have not worked. The cup always sticks to the coaster and even when storing the coasters they stick to each other resulting in varnish and paint coming away.

One thing I can say is I'd search online for other stores who sell it, any auto store, charge much more for things, especially Napa. For instance a gallon of Spray Nine spray cleaner is over $18 at Napa. It's $9.99 at Home Depot. So always shop around.

It's durable since its and enamel, one thing don't ever use krylon paints where water is going to make contact it will cloud up. I'm curious why you didn't try a spray on gloss polyurethane? I coated some rocks I painted with it and put outside to see how it would hold up and it's beautiful still.

Some products have a tacky residue - than your coffee cup sticks - so it's got to be right in a number of ways. Not sure of the exact product you mean and we may not have it in Australia. :)

May l ask the auto shop you refer to is that Supercheap or Repco or Auto barn please?? So nice to know that an Aussie does this painting. So much easier to source supplies!! Go Aussies!!

Unfortunately it's not that easy to get here in Australia. Certainly the shop Napa in Slacks creek just south of Brisbane has it. Supercheap may be able to get in it for you because they stock Dupli-color products. You can get it through Amazon but it will be expensive that way. :)

It's just felt with self adhesive backing - so I just cut it out with scissors. 😊

Thank you. There are different types of resin and I haven't tried them all. Some resins are not heat resistant, will mark and can by tacky. However maybe there is suitable resin that I haven't discovered yet. Anjela 😊

@@HappyDottingCompany Not sure if you can get your hands on it, but Resin Rockers & Counter culture DIY is great UV resin that's self leveling from my experience. I will continue to watch and learn, your work is AMAZING.

Is this non toxic and non inflammable? Because people sometime put coasters on top of hot drinks.

I've never tried to set fire to the coasters and I wouldn't recommend putting them on top of a drink - I don't know if it's toxic when dry but doubt it. 😊
