How to Secure into HOLLOW BRICK using RAMSET Ultra Fix | DIY

This week I’m showing how to secure into Hollow Brick using the Ramset Ultra Fix kit. For the longest time I have had issues with the hose wanting to fall off the wall because the supplied wall plugs that came with the hoselink. Over time the plugs supplied with the Hoselink would crack and then start to come out of the wall. The biggest problem I ran into is I knew I had to use the Chemset Chemical to secure into the hollow brick but the nuts that come with the install set wouldn’t fit in the hoselink bracket. I then came across these nuts called couple nuts. They are longer and screw onto the bolts and give me enough perch to use a socket wrench to tighten the bracket on. Below are some helpful links if you're looking to tackle a project like this in the future.

Thank you Ainslee for a first class exposition of this fixing method and the coupler solution. My old fashioned approach to the inset bolt problem has been to hacksaw a slot across both sides of the nut and make a corresponding cut-out in a bit of mild steel to make a kind of screwdriver, tighened with a wrench. Dinosaur stuff nowadays! :) Your presentation is excellent by the way, fast moving, clear, crisp narration and 100 percent confidence, you could produce ripper teaching aids. I learned the word _'ripper'_ from Dirk! :) The house I used to live in was made of stone outside and brick inside but there was no damp course as it was built in the 1880's. The bricks under the plasterwork could be in any state from soft and fragile to engineering diamond hard! I had to innovate to get anything to be stable - and there was nothing straight or at rightangles in the house! I have not heard of hollow brick over here in the UK. In the 1960's a lot of hollow "Breeze Blocks" were used but mainly inside dwellings. Thank you for a really well made video Ainslee. 👍👍👍🛠📌🔨👌

Hi Eryk Love that Dirk taught you Ripper. Its a great word :) Oh Gosh I could only imagine the issues dealing with nothing straight and stone. Such a challenge. I think the hollow bricks in Australia as a cost saving way to build and because we don't have extremely temperatures they work well. The checmial is working out well with the hose not a chance of going anywhere now. Thank you for the support and kind words.

What a wonderful clip! Well-presented, informative and so very timely as I've just moved into a house that has hollow bricks, and I was concerned about the nylon anchors that came with my hose reel. The previous owners seem to have got by without these products, but I'll never know because they just left the holes in the brickwork. Thanks for a great job!

Thanks for this, I was reluctant to drill a 16mm hole for an M8 threaded anchor stud but I've given up trying to find those metal mesh or smaller nylon sleeves that Ramset apparently make so I'm just going to have to do it with the multi-fit ones, thanks for the video

Hey thank you. Good idea. In my situation the holes that were already there were to big for the screws and I can't rembeber but there may have also been an issue with the head of the screw fitting through the bracket I was securing. Great option and idea through.

I can’t remember off the top of my head but they are pretty strong. It may say it on the packaging or if you had a particular project in mind I would contact Ramset’s and they could confirm the best product as they have a couple of options. Hey Ains, glad I came across your video. I have a Hoselink and drilled 12mm holes which they suggest, but the hose keeps pulling out when loaded, like yours does. I may have to expand to 16mm holes. What depth holes did you drill for the anchors, if you can remember?
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 месяца назад
Hey glad I could help. I drilled them just deeper than the ramset sleeves. I didn’t take a particular measurement. I held the sleeve out the drill bit and marked with some tape. It fits in brick easily. Hope this helps.

@@SmallFryCreations I actually don’t know how yours lasted as long as it did. I installed mine today and it’s already pulled out. Thats probably due to the 12mm holes I think whereas you drilled 10mm holes initially. I don’t know why they say 12mm holes on the installation instructions

I agree. I replaced mine more time than I care to admit😂. Should have done it years ago. They should have different install instructions given that I assume 99% of people are installing into hollow brick.

Thank you! I had exactly the same issues with installing my Hoselink. A word of warning: using a Ramset 8 x 110mm Galvanised Anchor Stud (without the "M" before the "8") will not work with the Pinnacle M8 x 24mm Galvanised Hex Coupler due to different thread pitches - the nut will tighten up for about a turn then become progressively harder to rotate and the coupler will start to strip. Also, you need to insert the coupler, inject the UltraFix and push the bolts in one at a time as the UltraFix sets VERY quickly in warm weather. I got caught out and had to start again. More holes. 🙄
@Chris-no4yt

Where can I buy Ramset 8 x 110mm Galvanised Anchor Stud that are not M8? And using the couplers to tighten up the bracket after she inserted the studs seemed to work perfectly well to me.

Couldn't you just set the original bolts in the resin?
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations Год назад
Unfortunately not. They are designed for the sleeves that went in the wall and you have the set the bolts with no load on it so I couldn’t use the bolts as I couldn’t install the holder until the resin had dried.
