I do not know if this procedure will work for other makes and models with this stupid system, but if your vehicle has the Engine Stop/Start and you don't like it either, it may be worth looking in to...
@@EMTRailfan Man I miss cars from back in the day. I used to buy cars for 100 bucks, fix them up and drive them for years then get another! You need a dang degree to work on these computer control pieces of crap!
@@Dominic.Minischetti Yep. All I wanted was 4 wheels and a steering wheel. Not a robot. You can't even change your own oil and do your own routine maintenance anymore and them still honor your warranty. We ran into that with Subaru. "We don't have record of you ever having your car in for service." That's because your dumbass salesman told us that we could do it ourselves when we bought it from you as long as we kept records..which we did.
Thanks. It was an acute medical event that made me crash. After all of the CTs and stuff, Doc said that it was probably just a fluke thing, but I have about 2.5 more weeks of carrying a Holter monitor around to rule out a cardiac event. I actually wish that I would have been driving like an idiot and crashed. At least I know that if I stop driving like an idiot, this probably wouldn't happen again. I'm just glad that I was alone, didn't take anyone else out with me or land in someone's living room, and that I didn't make it to work that morning and was driving my partner and a PT in the back of the bus and it happened then.
thats cool that you can disable that feature.it's brilliant on the manufactures actually as it DOES wear out other components ... hope this video of yours helps tons kill that stupid feature.
Why can't they just go back to selling cars and not damn robots? The only "luxuries" that my Patriot had was A/C and cruise. It was a 5 speed with crank windows and manual locks, and I liked it that way, lol! Hell, it even had a real key.
Thanks Dan. I wish that I could say that I liked the Jeep. I liked the old Jeep much better, but I pretty much had to settle for this one because we needed to. I hope that it grows on me, but it is more like driving a robot with a bunch of bells and whistles that I don't want, but still have to pay for. I pretty much just want 4 wheels and a steering wheel. One of the dumbest features that we have to pay extra for. Editing the video, I see the other end of that plugin looks like it is just bolted to the battery terminal. I may try pulling that off of the battery and plugging it back in to see if the error light goes away. Still won't be able to monitor the battery if it's not on the battery, but it will think that it is plugged in then...you would think...
Hmmm. I tried to edit my first comment, and RU-vid deleted MY OWN comment on MY OWN video. Not that that's ever happened before... Anyway, if I'm going to drop a 4.0 in, I want my very first truck's 400 cu. in. to toss in it. This stupid Compass also has a 9 speed auto tranny that never sees 9th unless I'm on the Interstate, and even then it doesn't stay there very long until I hit a slight grade and it drops itself down to 8th or even 7th sometimes. Yep, another "improvement" to charge us more for that is pointless.
I honestly get annoyed when I am at a stop light and hear a vehicle start up every time. I used to ask myself. Do people now cut off their cars at the stop lights?
Wave of the future, lol! Save the environment and save you gas, all while burning up starters and transmissions, and burning more fuel by constantly restarting your engine than just letting it run...

I did this and then my check engine came on? Literally right when I turned my car on after unplugging it. Then I tried plugging it back in and the check engine light is still on
The check engine light, or the warning light to tell you that the engine start stop system is "malfunctioning" because you have it unplugged? They are different lights. The ESS has it's own dedicated light as shown in the video. Regardless, not sure why the light wouldn't go out once that you plugged it back in? Are you sure that the plug is making good contact? Are you driving a Compass too, or something different?
@@EMTRailfan It’s a Compass. I made sure it was completely plugged back in. Maybe it takes a bit for it to go back to normal. I’ll have to see the next time I take the car somewhere
@@rgrave21 Geez. I'm not sure then. My ESS light goes out every time that I have to plug it back in, although the dealer has given up on plugging it back in for me, lol! Is it the actual ESS light that I show in the video, or the check engine light? Unplugging the ESS "shouldn't" have kicked your check engine light on if that's what it is. Do you have an engine code reader to see what it tells you and so you can clear the light if it's your engine light? If you don't, have you tried disconnecting your battery for a minute or 2. Sometimes this will clear a "hiccup" engine light, but you will have to reprogram your clock/radio. A cheap code reader is one of the best investments that I have made, and has saved me a lot of money. Mine doesn't tell you what is wrong, but it gives you a code that you have to look up online to find what the problem is. It also allows me to clear a check engine light.
@@EMTRailfanI’ll have to buy a coder. The light went off now and it seems fine. It was the actual check engine light, and it was reading “Service engine”
@@rgrave21 That sounds like it could be something different going on with coincidental timing with you disabling the ESS. If you get a code reader, it probably won’t tell you anything unless the engine light [IS] on. Here’s to hoping it was just a hiccup.
It wouldn't be so bad if there was a secret squirrel code to permanently disable it like my old Jeep's hill assist. But even that throws a notification light on the dash in my wife's car, but not my Patriot. I think that code was something silly like turn the wheel 180 to the L, back to center and then 180 to the R, then back to center, then press the brake pedal 5 times in 10 seconds or something like that.
