Great stuff. I'm surprised the developers haven't implemented this in an update yet. It feels like a worthwhile feature. Some systems had big differences between regions and are definitely worth separating e.g. SNES & SFC or the PC Engine & TG-16.

Thank you for this. I'm able to duplicate a Playstation folder and rename it PSJAPAN, cut all the japanese games from main folder and paste to here. Now my PSX games aren't so cluttered. I did the same to NES and SNES. You are vey helpful.

Glad it works! Thanks for the great question. I had not thought about doing this.

That's cool. I did not know that you could make sub folders like that!

First off, you have an awesome set of tutorials for the Miyoo Mini. Several of these have help me immensely. For the life of me I can't get this to work the way I want. I'm wanting to separate my ROMS by region via folders (as in your first example). Using Atari 2600 as an example I have this folder structure: /ATARI /USA /Europe /Prototype If I start up the Miyoo Mini Plus I see the folders and ROMS all in their correct place. Where I'm having issues is when I use Skraper to not only get the box art but also rename the ROM files. I am trying to exclude all the tags such as (USA), (Europe) and (Prototype), and just use the game name. If I run Skraper on the /ATARI folder, it will get all the box art and rename all of the ROMS correctly, but when I boot up the Miyoo Mini Plus, the /USA, /Europe and /Prototype folders are all gone and it just lumps all of the ROMS together despite the fact that the file structure is still in place on the SD card. Now, if I run Skraper on just one of the sub-folders (say /ATARI/Prototype) and then move the /Imgs folder up to the main /ATARI folder, the folder structure still works but my ROMS are no longer renamed correctly, it just uses the original ROM filename. My main question (I think) is where does the miyogamelist.xml file go? Do I combine all three .xml files from the subfolders into one and put it in the main /ATARI folder or do I have to have a separate miyogamelist.xml file for each subfolder? I've tried both but neither seem to work, so I'm at a bit of a loss. Any help would be much appreciated. As a side note, I'm also using XMLStarlet to strip out all of the metadata in the .xml file that Onion OS can't read. I don't know if this is relevant or not, but without doing this my larger NES or SNES collections won't load properly in Onion OS.

I have run into that before, Did some more research and it seems that it is a limitation of the miyogamelist.xml feature at the moment. A quote from the documentation "There is not yet a known way to use miyoogamelist with sub folders (it will display on the device only as a single list/folder even if you scraped/generated a list from subfolders)" I hope there is a way around this in the future as the only other option is to use a bulk renaming tool to rename all your roms. Of course this does not help with things like arcade where renaming would break the rom.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I'd like to keep the original file name intact. I ended up going with separate systems for various regions of a system. One thing to note for anyone else doing this, the ROM folders (and probably all file paths in general) can't contain spaces. I originally tried to set it up as "GB (USA)" and "GB (Japan) but the folders were empty when I fired up the Miyoo Mini. Using "GB_USA" and " GB_Japan" worked great and you can always label them whatever you want in the config file in the Emu folders.

Great video! Not many people mention how to do this online. Ive only seen one reddit post on how and it was after some digging. Are you able to do a video on how to wirelessly connect to the Miyoo from PC to transfer roms/other files? I saw you get the ip address from the wifi settings but havn't been able to connect in an internet browser from a pc on the same wireless network.

Hi, I'm currently waiting for my first miyoo mini plus to arrive and watching videos to be ready when it arrives :), anyway what's the point of dividing it into regions ? those games have different features ? Thank you for the clarification
@PhyrexTechs
@PhyrexTechs 9 месяцев назад
Mostly just for personal organization. However, if you would like to have separate Retroarch settings for each region this would make that easy with directory overrides. I hope you enjoy your MM+!!

I requested this because i have over 450 PS1 games that has US and Japanese, I wanted to separate the Japanese games to make the main folder smaller for easier navigation. My PS Japanese folder has about over 50 games. So now the main PS folder has fewer games to go through. Same with Super Nintendo/Super Famicom and Nintendo/Famicom. Smaller list makes it easier to scroll. Super nintendo is located in the SFC folder and Nintendo is in FC which is confusing at times, I renamed it and separated the USA and Japanese versions to their own folders. Thanks to Henry. I enjoy Japanese games because we never had these in the USA. I'm using a 256gb micro sd card. Thats double of what the Miyoo comes with. I hope you enjoy your miyoo as much as I do.

Do you not also need to change the icon path from "fc" to "nes"?
@PhyrexTechs
@PhyrexTechs 7 месяцев назад
Good question! The icon path determines what image is shown for the system in the system/games selection menu. Stock Onion OS only has an fc.png and no nes.png image. So they can use the same icon. However, if you wanted you could add your own nes.png to the Icons/Default folder to make them look different and then you would want to change the icon path to nes.png or whatever the file is named.

I can’t get PS1 games to play 😔
@PhyrexTechs
@PhyrexTechs 9 месяцев назад
PS1 games can be kinda picky about the folder structure and format. Are the games showing up in the list? If so when you try to launch are they just kicking you back out to the game selection screen? Do you use .CHD files with .M3U files? or do you have .BIN, .CUE, and .ISO? What is your folder structure for your games? Mine is: Roms>PS>Western>.M3U files with game folders. If you don't use CHD or M3U files you would want it like this Roms>PS>Western>"gamefiles with no folder"

@@PhyrexTechs Okay I'll try that setup. Thanks for the response. I would really love to play Gran Turismo 1/2, the MegaMan X games, FF7/8, Twisted Metal 1-4, and the Spyro games on the go....so it's been a bummer so far.

Yeah, all those are great games. Let me know if you still have issues I can try to help figure it out.
