As a rule of thumb, for break in period, 1hr run time is what I usually do, I use conventional motor oil, do the break in procedure, then empty the break in oil, then I put in full synthetic oil, but that's me.

100% correct i believe most engine manuals call for breaking in the engine with conventional oil and some manufacturers actually make and label the oil as Breakin Oil.

Wow thought you had an issue with synthetic oils! We normally break in a new engine with conventional oil for the first 5 hours of run time then drain. The 5W30 synthetic is perfect to cover all temperature ranges on the hot and cold side. We also put in one litre of our Kinetix 4 cycle alkylate fuel and tell the customer it will fire right up for two years guaranteed as long as they have not put any of their fuel in it.
@BrucesShop
@BrucesShop 7 месяцев назад
To be honest I am now confused which direction with synthetic oil or not :-)
@waynestefinashen239
@waynestefinashen239 7 месяцев назад
@@BrucesShop Your going in the correct direction . So the rule of thumb at EP is if the manual specifically calls out synthetic oil then thats what the equipment gets but if it is brand new we use convential oil for breakin of the piston rings and either have the customer bring it back after 5 hours of run time or pick it up to do the oil change to synthetic. Naturally there is a higher cost for synthetic oil which the customer sometimes complains about but we always inform them we have to follow the instructions provided for the equipment to maintain the warranty status.

Most home generators sit a long time between use. I like to run mine out of fuel and change the oil before I put it away. When I get it back out 3 years later I pull the engine over 10 times before I put fuel in it and try to start it to circulate the oil in engine. Nice generator but I try to buy one with a plastic tank.

13:03 Your circular saw is NOT pulling 13 amps when it's just spinning and not cutting anything. 13 amps may be what the saw motor is rated for but it won't draw anything near that much current when it's not working. You probably have a 1500 watt heat gun in your shop which will draw 12.5 amps continuously at 120 volts. I use a 1500 watt heat gun and a 1500 watt space heater to test generators under load.
@BrucesShop
@BrucesShop 7 месяцев назад
You are right. It may surge to 13. I do have a heat gun as well

Hi there, if Canada is 120V 60hz it will be governed at 3600 rpm to give 60hz from the 2 pole gen head. In Aus. our generators are governed at 3000 rpm to give 50hz from a two pole gen head. 4 pole is half those rpm's, 1800 for 60hz and 1500 for 50hz. Cheers.
