How to set up an Infinity table

There are a few principles I follow when setting up a table for Infinity the game. Structuring your table set up can ensure that each game of Infinity has a bit of variety and challenge, without favouring anyone in particular.
Unlike Warhammer 40k, where the tables are generally quite open, Infinity has quite dense tables generally and it's important that that offer a dynamic area of play.
If you're keen on grabbing the tech coffins I use in the demo you can get some from Corvus Belli's website, or from your local retailer. Here's a link to CB's store for your reference - store.corvusbelli.com/en/orga...
Sorry, I don't know where the mat is from.

Putting the objectives down first is excellent advice. I recently designed an awesome table, then went to put down the objectives. There wasn't any room for them, and to make them fit meant reorganizing literally half the table. Now I always do objectives first!

At least you learned after facing that issue once. Too many times I’ve laid the perfect table then reorganised to fit objectives 🤣

Great video, alongside the Dice Gods Wargaming one, I feel I've learned a lot. Particularly appreciate that yours is very sparse compared to their dense board, showing how both can be effective!

Pretty good table for learning on. I'd add 2 to 4 more buildings for a tournament because Biotechvore exists. Also i like having a few objects elevated to add a little complexity to getting to them.

Yes. Excellent comment on the need for the Initiative/Deployment decision to actually matter. One thing I tend to do is ensure that one table edge has more large-ish elements of total cover, and the other side tends to have more scatter and be more open in general.

@@the_infinitygamer One of the guys had their Outlands Delta Garrison which we used for a few games. Works well for Infinity IMHO and being a bigger piece it's a quick way to fill a table. Thinking of ordering their Frontier Core Set. Will ping you if we get it and let you know how it plays.

We try to think of the middle as a mountain rather than a valley. Meaning, the taller stuff goes in the middle mostly. There can be tall stuff in the deployment but the middle should block LoS.

Objectives first is mostly fine. However, there’s nothing wrong with having objectives on elevated surfaces, and placing them first means they will always be on ground level. Also bear in mind, a table can be balanced without being symmetrical. Many players get stuck on this and create unbalanced and sometimes unfair tables, in the pursuit of avoiding symmetry Great video! Always been something I’ve wanted to do myself
@the_infinitygamer
@the_infinitygamer Год назад
So long as the elevated surface doesn’t prohibit a bike or TAG reaching it then I’m all for it too. Does a table need to be balanced???

I feel like area terrain that includes hit modifiers should be much more common than it is, as it would start to change up what units people take as both Mimetism and MSV becomes stronger.

@TimothyEdwards

@@the_infinitygamer Not as many as I’d like. Over the pandemic I was playing a TTS game where a Guilang was shooting through some woods at a Mimetism -6 model, where the realisation that the Guilang gets to ignore the 3 from the woods and 3 from the Mimetism while the target was taking the Woods and Mimetism penalties both made me realise why a lot of jungle and arctic models in Infinity have that gear - because mechanically in that environment it’s a disproportionate bonus!

Good video, though I'd like to give a couple suggestions: -the continuous jumps from close-up to medium shot can be kind of dizzying, maybe it would help to alternate also between them and some "miniature view" on the table, to better make your points -I couldn't see the deployment zone opposite yours As for the topic, they are good advices. I hadn't thought about putting objectives first, sounds good, but maybe sometimes it could be interesting to have them on or inside buildings, could add a whole new tactical dimension. I always apply the 45° angle, the "big pieces on the middle field" and the "block fire lanes on the sides to protect/hamper parachutists" rules. Unfortunately I don't have any small obstacles, like small crates and the like, so I try to make up with bigger obstacles, but I fear I'm loosing something in the game experience. It may be time to use them, from what you say they can be really helpful and contribute to the overall variety of the table. It shouldn't be too big of a problem, since I've slowly but steadily packed many items that I thought could be used as interesting terrains, so I may as well start rummaging through this pile of items ^^.

An excellent video. Thanks so much and so many excellent points. Objectives first, especially like the miniature objective markers. Buildings at 45 degrees. So simple and a real slap head moment for me. Buildings on the edge to deny edge dominant lines of fire. As a new player to the game, we'll actually got into the game with Operation Coldfront but it dat for a while and then Codeone appeared along with N4. I've been so busy on the hobby front only now delving into the books. I love the thick card Buildings and collected and built up a decent amount. To preserve them I glued all the edges. I really like that collection of Buildings.

An important thing to remember is that you need most buildings to be more than 70mm tall in a single step, otherwise a TAG will be able to step up onto the buildings and have much less restricted movement.
@the_infinitygamer
@the_infinitygamer Год назад
Restricted movement is something I’m a big fan of. You do want places that bigger models can’t reach.

Remember the base must be fully supported. A shallow (~50mm) building can't be stood upon by a TAG or the big remotes.

That board is what the spanish community knows as a "Turnip field". Needs at least 2 or 3 more buildings on each DZ or else you won't be able to deploy things like Tags or bikes and gives a massive advantadge to the starting player who can gain LOS faster. While cluttering is also no good, a bit of a balance between open spaces and cover would favor different styles of play.
@the_infinitygamer
@the_infinitygamer Год назад
A bit more cover would definitely be better, especially for a tournament setting. Like I said, this isn’t the perfect table but hopefully the principles help guide people in creating tables that aren’t following the same cookie-cutter approach. I like your point about ensuring that there’s big enough terrain in the deployment zones for S7 units though. That is important.
@JakeStaines
@JakeStaines Год назад
Minor point, but for what it's worth: looking at some old Wildfire card elements versus newer BlackWind buildings, it looks to me like the Wildfire stuff wasn't 3mm anyway; it was 3/32" (which is weird from a Spanish company!), which is about 2.4mm - and it's since dropped to about 2mm with the newer boxes. Possibly from Crimson Stone onwards? I think the Kaldstrom ones are a bit thicker still. It's certainly nowhere near as dramatic as half the thickness.
@the_infinitygamer

3mm seems to be doing the rounds as the general thickness measurement for the terrain? www.paintalltheminis.com/unboxings/2019/11/7/a-look-into-the-operation-wildfire-box

I always set up my table to be as dense as possible, but we never know what the mission is until we start, which can be annoying when needing to add objective pieces. I'll be trying my 0-12 again this coming weekend, and I might ask Jamie, if we can roll the mission first.
