Hello Ryan, Thank you for all of your help. I'm wanting to explore off camera flash so I went and purchased a Godox remote transmitter. After watching your video, I do see that I do not necessarily need it? So basically I'm confused as to why and when does one need a transmitter? Should I be returning the transmitter? Please help if you can. Edward

I'm pretty sure you use a transmitter with third-party or older flashes that don't have wireless features built-in. Also, not all cameras have built-in wireless functionality I believe.

You need to have either a pop up flash on your camera, or you need to have a designated master flash to trigger the off board slave flash or a wireless trigger on your hot shoe of your camera. The off board slave flash will only fire if it receives a flash from the master flash. How it works is the master flash will fire slightly before, triggering the slave flash the shutter curtain, or you can set it for both to fire at the same time. Hope this makes sense.

Hi! I purchased the 6D MkII and i don't know how to set it with my 430EX II to use them remotely. Do you know any configuratiosn that works in wireless mode for that camera and flash models? thanks!

I don't know of anything specific as this video is meant to work with a camera that has a flash on it. What I can think of is a possible 2 solutions: 1. Get a second flash to have on camera and trigger remotely with optical transmission or 2. Look into a system like pocket wizard or something for triggering. Hope that helps.

Hi May I ask how to use the light ( from the camera's built-in flash) to trigger Canon 430ex ? Thanks!

Any clue why my Godox ct16 trigger doesn’t seem to be working? New batteries, The triggers communicate fine with each other, same channels, ex 430ii slave mode is on. Canon 100d

Will the 430EXii work with Goxox X2t TTL Wireless Flash Trigger?
@OrionMediaGroup
@OrionMediaGroup 4 года назад
Hey Lawrence, I haven't tested it but I would probably say not as I believe the Godox triggers are radio and this flash is optical transmission

Can I use the Canon 7D and it’s built in flash to trigger my off camera 430EX II flash with high speed sync?

No but you can set it sit that the ex2 flashes when your on camera does. That’s as good as it gets without addionak hardware

Hello! Will it work on a EOS t7i (800D)? I would like to buy one and it will be very useful if I could trigger it remotely. Thanks!
@OrionMediaGroup
@OrionMediaGroup 3 года назад
It's a Canon flash so it should do but I have not tested it. You'd be better off going with the III version as it can be triggered by a trigger.

No, the 430 only has slave mode built in. if you have a compatible camera with a pop up flash this can fire one or more 430's otherwise you will need either radio triggers, an optical trigger from Canon or something like the Canon 580 ex ii that has a master function built in.

Hi Ryan, I have a 430EX II and I am looking to trigger it remotely, possibly with a 430EX III (on camera). I do not need ETTL. As a matter of fact I need the remote flash to be in manual. Can it be done at all ? 430EXIII on camera and 430EX II set on slave and manual? thank you very much.
@OrionMediaGroup
@OrionMediaGroup 7 лет назад
I think it would be possible but I’ve never tried it and I don’t have an EX II to test it out for you. It makes sense that it would work though.

Is there a radio function on the 430EX II? I'm trying to link up the 430EX II to the YN-E3-RT.
@OrionMediaGroup
@OrionMediaGroup 7 лет назад
Unfortunately not, you need the 430EX III-RT for that. The only wireless function on the II version is optical which is triggered by another flash firing.

I forgot that I have the Yongnuo YNE3-RX! Just bought it a month ago and didn't remember where I put it. LOL But for anyone using the 430 EX II, this works perfectly!

I am working with a Canon EOS Rebel T5 and I don't have easy wireless or custom wireless as part of my mode on my camera, so is there an alternative setting that I can use with my camera that will yield the same results?

Hi Danny, I’m sorry but I’ve never used the Godox flashes or triggers. There may be another video out there from someone who has been using them for a while.

Would this work with a canon 5d mark iii to trigger a canon 430EX II Speedlight off camera ( wirelessly)?
@OrionMediaGroup
@OrionMediaGroup 7 лет назад
To do this method you need to have a popup flash so this method won't work for your camera. To make it wireless, you will need a wireless trigger set (3rd party) if you can find one online but I don't know of any specific brands. If you wanted to stick with Canon, you'd have to get an 'RT' flash and radio trigger.

I have the Canon Mark III and 2 Canon 430EX ii flashes and would love to use them that way as well. Too bad we can't.
@ArjenJongeling

In that case you’ll have to set your camera and flash(es) to manual. The flash to 1/1 or whatever power you want. Set the shutter speed of the camera to 1/200 or lower (otherwise the second shutter curtain will start closing before the first is fully opened so the flash misses a part). Adapt your ISO or aperture for correct exposure. You can use a flash meter to give you the right aperture or just check the result on your screen.
