hey man, any way of getting the appendix list to do the same? I've defined a new list: Appendix A, but can't get level 2 to read: A.1 - it keeps putting it as 1.A.

This is a valiant effort, however, it's clunky, longer and more complicated than necessary and is fresh out of the 1950's. Suggest you have a look at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GevZOS-nCuw.html, which only goes for 12 ish minutes and includes basic coverage of the Contents page, too. Note also that when needing to modify a style, just right click on the style and select modify. You don't need to click 4 times through Style Manager and subsequent options to get it done.

What am I doing wrong. I followed the instructions to the letter but my headings are all chapter 1 and the numbering starts again at 1.1

I tried it but for some reasons I don't know, when click on the chapter style panel it doesn't change to chapter 2, chapter 3 etc do you know what could be the problem?
