Great video. The only issue I found for me was I needed the MX record to fully verify with cloudways, and I guess this means I have to add a rackspace email. I was hoping to just use a free gmail email.

I love your videos, so glad I found your page. I'm wondering if you can forgo the smtp plugin step, on one of my sites, I was having trouble after setting it all up, I deleted fluentsmtp and now it all works great. Not sure why.

Thanks! I’d like to see why FluentSMTP broke the site, what was happening with it? In order to connect an SMTP for email delivery there needs to be an SMTP plugin or something on the site to connect the SMTP services. Maybe it was a plugin conflict. You can try deactivating all other plugins and 1 at a time and see if deactivating another fixes the problem.

If I already have an Amazon SES setup that has been running great, if there any reason for me to switch to Elastic Email? I am quite familiar with SES set up.

Sorry for the late replay. If you're using Amazon SES then you don't need Elastic or another SMTP. You should be good

Thank you - what if the client has an existing email with gmail. In the mx record part I selected gmail, but do I need to do something different to the other records? My clients emails are not coming in. Only going out.

Sorry for the late reply, I was taking time off and back now. Were you able to find a fix and get it working for you? If you host emails with CW using Elastic then you'll have to remove the GMail MX records. Can't have both.

@@LytboxStudio Hi Jeffrey, thanks for the reply. No it's Gmail email. In Namecheap, they say they make it easier for you to connect your Gmail by just selecting Gmail in your mail server settings and not having to add all the MX records. This has never worked for me even if I triple-check everything. So I have to set it as custom and add all the MX and it resolves the issue. I wondered if it had something to do with the Elastic email functionality and Namecheap together.

What was the purpose of installing the SMTP plugin if you left it on the PHP protocol and didn't enter any information in the plugin other than the senders name? From what understand, you are supposed to select: Other SMTP and place your SMTP Login credentials so you use the mail service through the SMTP protocol.

Since the service provider is on our server, setting to only PHP will connect it. If you were to use another provider such as Sendblue or Amazon, then you'd connect to those.

@@LytboxStudio You are right! Even it's the same when we compared the performance. One more important thing is to check the data center locations before considering any server. It is always recommended to choose the nearest location.

Is there a way to just automate going live and adding SMTP? Such a pain in the ass.

I agree, adding SMTP isn't a fun step. And only needs to be added if the site isn't going to fire off emails. But unfortunately, if emails need to be sent from the site, we have to set up the SMTP. I recently started using FluentSMTP with Cloudways and has made the process much easier.
