Hey Sam I’ve got the first version. I know you did a video on this but can you do a comparison between the two. Also can you do a video soon on your work flow?
Sam, this was brilliant for me as an experienced S5 user 😆 I had the front custom key set for focus peaking for vintage glass, but your tip is perfect. Changed my stroll wheel to similar custom settings as yours, including moving peaking here! The only thing I am annoyed at is that the custome keys remain the same in video mode and photo mode... Would have loved to have kept focus peaking up front for photography. Thank you!
Definitely helped - an idea for a follow-up would be how to use these settings for someone like me coming from photography to starting out more seriously in video. IE when and how to use vectorscope vs waveforms, creative ways to use focus transition (like can you use it to dolly zoom?) or how/when you might recommend using live cropping, etc. Or even reviewing vlog luts could be cool too. Thanks for making this content!
Hey Sam, I have a great idea for a firmware update, maybe you can pass it along to Lumix. Many people complain about the lack of tally light on the S5II, but in fact, there IS a tally light on the front of the camera! When you use the wifi/bluetooth feature it turns on. So all they need to do is to update the firmware so that we can choose if this light (next to the s5 logo) turns on while recording! What do you think? This could be really helpful for many people. Thanks!
Just picked this up, very impressed with the auto focus so far, also there was a slight motorized sound in the S5 don't hear anything at all with the Mark II. So helpful to have these to know all the features and customization! Thanks for putting this up. Going to shoot some musicians and a film short with this camera if anyone is interested.
Lumix hits the market for filmmaking twice as better and definitely be my long term camera brand for my niche. Thanks for Lovely Tips even i don't own it yet and i'm obessed with lumix
Insane amount of information! This video must have taken you a long time to prepare but it is essential viewing to set up the camera. Thankyou from the RU-vid community for making it. It’s fantastic!
Operation Lock - could have saved me in the past. I was recording 4k60 with a 1/60 shutter BUT accidentally changed shutter speed to 1/50 and spent hours trying to understand why the metadata said 60p but the frames were all doubled… ouch.
Fantastic video! Actually quite useful for my S5 as well, while I wait for my S5iiX to be released! Haha! Personally because I film a lot of events and weddings with this camera, I actually set the front button to Image Area of Video to change between Full Frame and APSC crops for quick zooms without loss of resolution. This is great for the times you see something happening and dont have time to change lenses but also want to be in closer. Im thinking im going to change the back/delete the operation lock. Thanks!
Oh Sammy Boy why do you keep doing this to me ..... I had made my mind up and now you have got me thinking again. So much so I watched all 27 mins and 59 seconds of this that how good your video is ... frigging awesome and love the Studio set up you have nailed it . That option lock tip is cool but just so you know there is a physical lock switch on both the R3 and R6 MK II buzt they dont have VLOG ....... oh what am I going to do !
😂 it’s fun to see you go through the same pain I went through but I since came through the other side 😛😂 it’s great over here! 😂 only kidding mate. Canon is amazing too! Just like most cameras are! 💪🏻🎥 Thanks though man. Glad you like the new studio. Wait till you see the anamorphic footage 🤯🤯🤯
@@SamHolland Yeah I’ve been running the channel with two G9s but as I’ve started vlogging a bit more they’re not cutting it. I’ve set mine up like yours and I’ll see how I get on! 🤘🏻
New S5II ✅ Cup of tea ✅ Going to enjoy this! Thanks for making this. Out of interest, what do you use for spare batteries, the official ones or a third party one?
Hi Sam, amazing video! I was wondering if you knew the answer to this. While shooting with manual focus, there is a box, four corners really, that I can't rid of on the screen. I think it's called the "focus area". Id love to know how to disable that and get a completely clear display while I'm shooting. Or if you know any way to get a completely clear display while in manual focus mode, I'd love to know. Cheers!
Hi. Yes you can do this. I talk about it in this video here along with some other nuggets that still apply to the mark 2 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FwXEzWp-_ys.htmlsi=VLyAhFu59fEvPxOF
Hey Sam just an amazing video. Not that most of what you do isn’t, but I have been a fanatic about customizing my lumix and truly thought that I knew it all. The customization of the Q Menu however is something that I didn’t realize you could do and it will change my shooting experience for sure! Here’s a very unexciting question for you, how the heck did you get that color greenish menu color? Also when you change your settings so that you can make changes to WB, etc and be able to shut you camera off and have it remember what your new settings are, is there an easy way after the gig to hit some sort of preset restore button to bring it back or is that a manual process. Not the end of the world if not, just curious. Thanks again for your continued commitment to great content creation!
Hey. I’m so pleased this helped. So if you go into the white balance selection screen, scroll along to one of the Kelvin options, instead of pressing UP, press DOWN and it will bring up the tint control. Is that what you meant? Then when I talk about saving and restoring presets, just select the option for it to remember / restore when you turn camera back on. 🤩 sorry I don’t have the camera with me right now to tell you what the exact name of the option is. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🎥🙏🏻
Great video mate! Absolutely love this camera!! Most fun I’ve had making videos in a long time with the s5ii. Been using it for a couple of weeks now and still watched the whole video 🤓 #watchtime 😂💪😎🎥
Hi. The LUTs I recommend are in the description. Click the link and it will take you straight there. To turn on histogram: Menu, Settings menu (cog), monitor/display 1, histogram on/off. Or assign it to Q menu or a button. Hope this helps 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Thanks a lot! I was really confused about this whole thing coming form a Fuji system, you really made it much easier. :) Also, I am sure others must've also told you that you look like Tom Hardy.
Anyone else not able to re-program a button by pressing an holding? Some of the buttons work fine doing that. Mine won’t let me press-hold the exposure button to reprogram like he mentions in the video.
@@thecitizenofearthshow I found a work around solution. Go into your on screen menu in the camera and find “fn button set”. From there you can re-map all the buttons
Made the rookie mistake of turning my camera off (what was I thinking.... to preserve battery!?) right before you said 'now, to save those custom settings...' 🤦♀😂 This video is exactly what I need while learning my way around my new camera. Thanks, Sam!
This is just the tutorial I needed! This saved me so much confusion when switching between modes through the custom mode settings. This would otherwise eat into valuable shoot time for me and I'd miss the crucial shot. Can't thank you enough.
Really nice and helpful video. You have a great delivery style along with outstanding production value. New sub. Thanks for making a great video and sharing your knowledge.
Hey Sam. Great, great video. Super helpful with my S5II. Thanks! I’ve ran into my first issue, however. It may be because of certain light settings that I’m in based on my environments, but recently when I try to shoot video, I’ve been seeing the zebra stripes or waves or curtain looking things on my screen. Is there a way I can fix that? Or, what am I doing wrong?
I've been using Panasonic for over 6 years, and there's been a couple times I thought I hit record and didn't so the big red box is actually a really good feature
Hi. So glad this helped. Yes. You can add custom LUTs to the LUT monitoring feature in v log or HLG so you can see it on the screen but you get log footage 🙏🏻🎥 hope this helps
Your S5M1 setup video was amazing and this one is just as great! I love the operation lock button set as I would always hit the shutter speed without even noticing! This is going to help so much thank you!
Hello Sam , great video how to setup the Lumix S5 ii for video I use your setting for my Lumix S1H , and is look perfect for me , I watching 27: 59 mn , great job , you are the one thank you so much , have lovely day , yes the Lumix S5 II great camera , and you look so happy , big like 494
Hello mate - the beast has arrived! Thanks for pointing me towards this great camera (got the X). One question I do have (as I'm filming in the UK) should I use PAL or NTSC? I've noticed 60p and 30p aren't available in PAL? I'd be keen to hear your advice on this?
I'm going through my S5ii settings now and maybe I'm totally overlooking it, but does it not have a VFR setting? Do I have to be on the S&Q setting to access slow motion if I'm in 24hz cinema mode?
Wonderful video! In case I missed it, I have my S5IIX bodies to shutter angle, and keep inadvertently bumping it off of 180 degrees with the shutter dial. Is there a way to lock it when in movie mode?
I am huge Pana fan, but one thing that just torn me apart is pinpoint. Please help with that! Go to pinpoint af a single point. All this in photo mode. Then if you try what 90% of photigraphers do, focus and recompose, this zoom will kill your composition. And in this pinpoint, i cant find the way to disable pip zoom during focus. If there is a beep, why the heck they implement this terrible zoon?
This guide doesn't address an actual video workflow, which would involve setting shutter angle ONCE and then forgetting about it. Angle should not normally be changed during a shoot, since it alters the look of the footage. But it appears that the only dial settings put shutter speed (angle) on either the front or back dials. I would want aperture and ISO instead. Numerous settings but none do this? When it comes to locking controls, you cannot lock only one dial... it's both or none. So, once again, there's no way to have aperture control but not change shutter angle accidentally. Or am I missing something?
This was great. I’ve watched three “video setup” tutorials so far, and this is the one I will use to configure my camera when it arrives tomorrow. Thanks!
Have you experienced a little delay between hitting record and the recording actually starting? On the screen the delay translates into a little stutter/jump but it isn't in the actual footage as it seems to happen when the timer/recording actually starts. It happens in mov and prores but doesn't seem to be an issue in MP4. S5iix on the latest fw with 2 64g prograde v90ii 250mb cards. Any input would be great!
Great video sir. Do you mind telling us about pixel to pixel zoom ( crop) option in this camera? Can you crop in while shooting 4k video under pixel to pixel?
Sam, I'm struggling with toggling Zebra 1, Zebra 2, and Zebra 1+2 on the S5IIx. No matter which button I assign it to, it only works to turn ON of OFF either Zebra 1 or Zebra 2, and Zebra 1+2 refuses to work at all. Anyone else having this problem?
Sam, thank you for making this video brother. I just picked up the S5iix after being a Canon shooter for over 6 years and feeling super overwhelmed by the menus, this helped a ton.
beautifully done! Switching over to the s5ii from Fuji xt4… this video was a huge time saver. Question… the last tip to switch off all the ways to reset to a custom setting (which is a great tip). But, How do you return to the custom settings original settings if all of these are off? 🤔
Well it’s only intended for you to make small changes like shutter speed and white balance etc. you would leave all your FPS settings and codec the same 👌🏻
Sam, you are a lovely man and a major reason why I've been a happy Lumix user the past year or so. I just wanted to know if you utilize timecode with the S5/S5ii and if so, what your methodology is. I thought I'd be able to get by with setting the timecode to run constantly and sync all my cameras with the clock using Lumix sync, but for whatever reason, the clocks get massively out of sync. Like 7 hours out of sync. It's made clips a massive pain to organize. Thanks again for all you do!
Does anyone know how to change the back dial so that instead of SS it will change ISO? In all the 'sets' under 'assign dial' it's either SS or F. I can't seem to customize it simply to ISO... why is that?
@@SamHolland Thanks man. But are you sure it's there? I saw the part where you talk about assignable buttons, but here I want to assign the rear wheel, and not a button. I couldn't find an answer to my question on this video :(
@@SamHolland but that's the control dial:) I'm talking about the OTHER rear dial, the one that changes the Shutter Angle - is there a way to reprogram it?
Hey awesome video. I know you are a Panasonic guy, Please give me some feedback for about the S5iiX. I am new to Panasonic and am trying to find out if this is a thing or if I have a bad camera. When I turn the dial to change aperture I can hear a loud clicking as the aperture blades open and close. It’s 3 different lenses so either 1) This is a Panasonic lens thing. 2) This is a Panasonic/S5iix thing 3) Something is wrong. Do you know what’s happening? Or is this normal?
Great video. I have an S5 iix with the S Pro 24-70. I love the camera for many reasons. I have a question about something I ran into this morning. I recorded 4K 60fps for the first time and the video was split into 1 min clips. Is this a setting issue or is this how the S5 iix records 4K 60?
Does anybody knows why after I set a Vlog in video, and after I switched to Aperture photo mode, my ISO wont change a screen brightness? Although it showing values are changing but it does not take a effect at all?
Hi, I find thatI loose the human/animal functions after connecting an external monitor. Used the same cable that is on my S1H. Anyone with similar issues and and suggestions?? Thanks--Ajit
Hi can i enable the red light on the front of the camera to light up when i am recording, i am looking everywhere for it and can not find how to do that...
I can't change my Focus Ring Control for some reason. I know I've changed it before on my S5 I, and I *feel* like I have done it on my S5 II, but for some reason right now it doesn't give me the option to change and I don't know why!
Love these videos. Late here with a question. The C1-3 dial settings seem to be stuck on Program. I haven’t been able to set it to 180 degree shutter angle no matter what I try. I set up everything else according to the video.
Great video. I like you. Wonderful personality, and great delivery of information: to the point, no fluff (except for fun personality moments). Thank you! Ps. looks like your affiliate link is broken for the calibrite color card, wanted to buy it through you to support you. Please fix! :)
Sam, your video is just in time for me receiving my S5II. I loved the S5. The very best videos I've ever shot were done with the S5 and S1H. Panasonic rocks! So much better than any of the others (and I've shot them all). And your videos are by far my favorite, so clear, so helpful, so well done. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
@@SamHolland Me Too. It should have arrived today, but we're in the middle of a three day ice storm here in Dallas. A rare, rare occasion that we don't know how to handle. So our roads are empty. No sane traffic, including Fed Ex and UPS. One question for you. Have they improved the peaking? You may or may not know, but the Fuji peaking is state of the art, but Panasonic has only played games with their peaking. It's weak, hard to read, and virtually vanishes when you hit record. The one exception is the GH5 peaking. S1: unusable. S1H: okay, but only so so. If you didn't get it, I really like to shoot MF.
Oh no. I hope it clears soon. Stay safe! 🙏🏻 Honestly I haven’t had much experience with peaking until this camera so I have nothing to compare it to. I’ve just been out filming with the anamorphic lens using peaking and it did ok but I always find it hard to see on the tiny monitor screens especially with de squeeze mode on
