"How To Set Up Ubuntu 20.04 LTS For Gaming - Step-by-Step Terminal Guide"

This video covers how to set Ubuntu 20.04 LTS for gaming, allowing you to play both native and Windows developed games using Steam Proton or Lutris using exclusively Terminal commands.
Step 1. Update the System.
Open a Terminal window and execute the following command:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
Step 2. Install the Latest GPU Driver.

Step 3. Install the latest version of Wine.

Step 4. Install the latest version of Lutris
lutris.net/dow...
Step 5. Install Steam and enable Proton.
Open a Terminal window and run the following command:
sudo apt install steam
Once installed, open Steam and sign into your account.
Next, navigate to Steam / Settings / Steam Play / Advanced and tick Enable Steam Play for all other titles.
Once done, restart Steam.
Step 6. Install and Enable Feral Gamemode.

To enable this with game launched in Steam, add the following command to a game's custom launch options.
gamemoderun %command%
Then, click OK, and Close to apply.
Alternatively, for Lutris, navigate to Preferences / System options and toggle the Enable Feral GameMode button on.

hi. i just installed ubuntu 20.04 and 440 is the one installed by default. why would we need the nvidia ppa (during the time that no newer nvidia drivers than the default one are available) ?

@@tatsuuuuuu Because you will not get a driver update for 6 months until the next version of Ubuntu is released. So if a situation like Doom Eternal where the driver essentially broke that game, you will stuck with that problem until the next release of Ubuntu. For reference Ubuntu 20.04 ships with 440.64 whereas the latest version is 440.82 that includes the Doom fix.

Thanks :) Im running 2 monitors. My main with a GTX1060 and my secondary with a GTX750Ti, which is now not working. Settings > Screen Display doesnt let me use the other monitor. Nvidia X Server sort of lets me. It knows which vid card to use though. Im getting a blank screen with an X looking cursor on it. I also need CUDA but this doesnt seem to be installed.

Thanks for this. I will now be starting to use Linux for all my OS. I have absolutely had it with Win 10 instability and lack of real control over it. Linux has reached a zenith that is acceptable for me now after 15 years of watching. Thanks to all you Linux coders who contribute to such a great OS.
