Just wanted to update this review. Year 4, with a bit of sharpening I'm still thrilled with this Auger! This is an excellent Auger. ru-vid.comUgkxe0I-fnTUByahTCyStrIBXsesSkQJKn8n It splits to 1/2 size for storage in the warm months and easily assembles for winter use. I can cut holes in less than a minute by and really don't feel the need to ever adapt this to use with a drill. It cuts easily with the included blades (which can be sharpened or replaced as needed) and has held up extremely well through last season, and now for the first cuts of this season. I do recommend this to anyone who asks, and personally prefer this over powered augers. These are quiet, still quite fast, lighter, and don't risk spilling chemicals into our waterways. I plan to do a lot of fishing this year through the ice, thanks to this trusty Auger. The 8" diameter is great for fishing pike through the ice as well.

Enjoying the videos! The hardest part for me is pulling the top down first, when packing up, really feels like it will break. Oh, and just learned a drill tip today, for people who lose their auger into the ice hole. All keyless chucks have a lock! Do the final tighten of the Chuck by hand, then turn the Chuck back just a bit, you should feel/hear it click. It’s now locked!

Love the pop up style hubs😊 one thing I do to prevent the kite problem (cause it’s happened to me!) is keep the doors open when you put it away so the next time when your going to open the hut in the wind, the open doors let the wind blow through and prevent from too much lift off👍🏼 Hope that can be of some help for someone!

@@JaySiemens Curious question; I've seen folks use some kind of pole for the middle so if there's major snow, the top won't collapse. What would be the length of the pole & what kind should be used?

@paddledafam9873
@paddledafam9873 Год назад
Hello Customi207, here in Wisconsin and the Midwest, we tend to travel several hours or more to our more remote ice fishing spots. As a result we (or at least me) stay for at least a couple days and usually, camping in the hub right on the ice. That’s where items like the hub, foam mats, and large gas cylinders come into play. It’s an adventure and I should thank Jay for his videos.

Great video! Only thing I do different is I put the first peg about 90% down then pop up the hut. That way the wind can spin it where it wants to go allowing the first corner you pegged to be a perfect V in the wind. Then I peg the rest and tighten the first one. The other thing is typically you can only brace 2 of the walls so you want to make sure the first peg you are pinning down is in the corner of those two walls.

@danielholtxxl4936

Tom K What do you mean “brace two walls”? By brace, do you mean that extra strap to keep the wind from popping the side in? Why can you only do two walls?
@tomk8112
@tomk8112 3 года назад
@@danielholtxxl4936 Because if you set your hut up properly on a diamond shape to the wind then the wind will only hit two walls therefore it's only necessary to brace those two walls.
@danielholtxxl4936

I put my under water camera in a hole about 5’ from the hub house outside to get a view of all lines I’m running inside. I have a cot, a Coleman stove, a propane lantern, and the heater all running off a propane tree. I’m VERY comfortable for a weekend on the ice. I do the floor in panels, and it all fits in one big sled, my fishing gear goes in a small sled.

Very nicely done Jay. My experience on popping out the tent is to start with the roof first as it clears obstructions and tangles to pop out the sides. Also my Cabelas brand the anchor points are on the inside so you have to pop it all out in the wind to get inside to anchor it. Its the worst and nerve racking on a windy day alone! lol

100% the instructions will tell you to start with roof putting it up, and end with roof taking it down. Also the reason the roof will usually come with a different coloured pull strap so you know which one to pull first.

The further your failsafe anchor is away the better it works. I had my Otter pro lodge on Cold lake in Alberta with 75km winds at night no issues. The red and black tent beside me was destroyed lol but its was from not putting the anchor far enough away for the wall to stay out.

I just got one of these as a "get me by" until next season when I get a flip-over to use. Normally I am all about mobility. I hate sitting on one spot for too long- I fish a lot of brush piles and for fish that you have to move to stay on, so using one of these kinda pains me to do- so I just need it as a base to warm up and get my butt out of the wind for a bit- important when you are middle aged and have arthritis in your hands. I drill a bunch of holes until I get on some fish before I park it. But this weekend it's going to get below zero (Farenheight) and I don't feel like sitting out in the weather.....so I got one of these for the rest of the season. Thanks for the tips!

I now own the pop up that I borrowed from a buddy because the wind ripped all the metal buckles off the straps and went sailing straight upwards into the night sky like Dorthy's home while I was inside it. I was trying to pack up because the wind picked up from 15 mph to 60 mph in less than 5 minutes. I bought him a new shack and fixed the poles on mine (his old borrowed one) after recovering it the following day 2 miles from my original spot. Thanks for the video on the tips. I am in the works with one of these types of videos myself. I figured people can learn from my mistakes.

Careful on days when the temp can rise above freezing. I’ve seen people pile snow on those flaps in the morning then it warms up and that snow melts. In the afternoon it cools back below freezing and your shanty is frozen to the lake.

I inherited an old Ice Shack 2 years ago. When I tried to set it up for the first time I figured I didn't need to read the instructions. That was a mistake. I tried pulling out the sides first which resulted in 2 poles breaking. Apparently (according to the instructions) I was supposed to pull the top first then the sides second. When putting the shack away it was the opposite. Thankfully the poles the shack used were the same style and length that Eskimo uses in their 2 person shacks so I replaced them with those. Lesson learned.

Hey is there a difference with having your propane inside the hub in comparison to outside of the hub? Examples, amount of usage, and longevity.
@eventsotherthingswithchris9019
've seen Steve Wallis From Camping With Steve do both. The plus side for having the take inside with you is the tank might stay warmer. A ( I forget the cut off point in degrees F or Degrees C) cold propane tank won't dispense the fuel you need. The only downfall but not much of one is having a stickable or mountable CO2 detector on the inside for running your heater just in case for CO2 emissions. Steve's done about 3 things with an "IGLOO" styled Shanty & one with a "CABELLA" deer blind styled pop up hub. He's on RU-vid & has some fun exploits if you ever want to watch him go solo or him & "Crazy Neighbor" ( Glen is his real name)

I would love to see a setup of electronics on your/a boat. I’ve watched lots of how to videos for installing transducers/head units and they never seem to show enough. Either lots of talking about the equipment or what steps, but never really showing the complete process. You just see the end result.

I have done a boat tour, or in the video Top 3 Lures for Spring Walleyes I show how I mounted some electronics! I hope that helps!

Where do you pull to take down the rods so they do it break? You talk about breaking lots. I am worried about where to pull when taking down the top. The outside is easier because we can push from outside. Thanks for the tips Jay.

Jay do you have a bait tank at home? Would love to see a video on your bait storage setup.

I don't. Just a bucket and an aerator. Great idea!

Don’t drill holes in the ice if you’re not going to drill all the way through, those are nice ankle breakers. If you don’t drill the entire way through the ice it won’t freeze properly and can be dangerous. Decent idea to get snow to pack down the tent but also creates a hazard.

Jay always marks his holes after he’s done with sticks making sure anyone who comes across it knows there’s holes/half holes there

yes it is a hazard but not when you mark your holes!:) watch some of his ice safety tips and he says always mark your holes
@BeiberTheseBalls

@@chloelogan9792 he doesn’t say anything about marking your holes in this video. This is the first video I’ve ever watched of his seeing him only drill half way thru the ice. Something he could have possibly overlooked.

If you can do it so much better than Jay, then do it yourself! Don’t criticize someone helping others because it makes you look and sound like a know it all! NO ONE likes a know it all! Keep your comments to yourself!! To you Jay keep the awesome videos coming!

@@jonpitzen7267 Literally just a tip. A lot of people watch this content including me. Don’t need a bunch of half holes all over the lake. Trying to save people from potentially getting hurt.

There is a small pocket inside the shack (at least on my 949i, which is almost the same as this one). I put the velcro inside that small pocket. It'll never get lost in there! I don't trust putting it in the bag.

I'm sorry to say I'm very disappointed in the Eskimo quality.I bought the Eskimo Sierra flip over I used it 4 times last year 5 times this year and all the black coating inside is flaking off , It's basically brand new and they won't do nothing about it they offered a site to me where I could buy a patch kit. I'm disappointed in Eskimo. I love your videos Jay keep bringing me along !!

Take your strap, loop it through and velcro it onto the carry handle of the storage bag. Problem solved!!! Less to remember such as the rachel strap! 😝

Why can’t eskimo make a center zip duffel bag. It’s painful to put away when it’s frozen. After a day on the lake
