Monstera Deliciosa also known as the Swiss Cheese plant is one of those plants that many of us go crazy about for the lovely leaves with the holes and splits in them called fenestrations.
We want to set up our plant for success rather then ending up a mess of a plant with stems growing in all different directions and leaves squashed and growing the wrong way.
Monstera is an ariod which means in its native habitate it shoots out roots on the stem. These aerial roots attach to the surrounding trees in the tropical rainforest and climb upwards to help the plant gain for sunshine. We want to facilitate this for our Monstera.
We can use trellis, plank of wood, Coco coir pole or my favourite a Moss Pole.
Whichever climbing support you choose we want to attach the back of the stem to the climbing support. Do you see what is going on here. There is several plants in this pot and there is one attached the wrong way where the front of the Monstera is attached to the climbing support by the front and causing the leaves to be squashed. We want all the backs of the Monstera leaves attached to the pole so the leaves are facing in one direction. we want the leaves facing outward toward the light source in the room rather the inward . It's like if we were at a party , it's more fun if we are facing the centre of the party rather the our backs toward the party.
Let's locate the front and back of the Monstera plant. The front is where the leaves tend to grow out from the stem and the back is where aerial roots grow our of. This doesn't change no moatter our much we rotare our plant. If we attach the wrong way the new leaves can become squashed. This is the front of the Monstera where leaves are growing out and this is the back of the Monstera where more roots are growing out. Sometimes this is difficult to do if several Monstera plants are planted in one pot and growing in all different directions. Choose your Monstera plant wisely. This Monstera plant has several plants growing in different directions which means we need to place several
different climbing support in the pot. Most of us would prefer just one climbing support. Otherwise This Monstera would need to be repotted to rearrange the positions of the plants. This Monstera is a terrible choice and bettter to choose a different pot.
Most people make the mistake of placing the climbing support in the centre of the pot. It's actually better to place the climbing support at the back to give the Monstera the most about of space for the leaves to expand rather then wasting the space at the back. The only time we place a supporting pole in the centre if if the light source in the room is even 360 degree round and planting multiple plants in the pot. Most of us have one main window in the room. We want the leaves to face toward the window. If this is our pot we want the climbing pole at the back. Then Plants are placed around the front and side of the pot with all the Ariel roots at back of the Monstera attached to climbing support. If the aerial roots or the stem are not long enough to attach to the climbing support, that is still fine as long as they are growing toward the climbing support.
This Monstera has been attached incorrectly to the climbing support. The main stem is not long enough to attach to the support. A leaf stem otherwise known as a petiole needs to be attached. It's not good using the newest leaf as it can damage petiole where the newest leaf is growing. It's better to attach an older leaf to the climbing support.
Doing these thingswill give your Monstera the best opportunity to thrive with all it's leaves going the most acess to light and not being squashed or damaged.

Hi Kim, Yes It's Monstera Deliciosa. It's really up to you and your plant style. I have 1 pot that has several plants and one with a single plant. As long as there is enough room and support pole, the Monstera will be happy. Happy Monstera Gardening ❤️
