Showing you how to set your throttle endpoint so you’re not overextending the throttle servo or carburetor. Also to be sure you are maximizing fuel mileage and tuning window.
In the video is an Agama A319 1/8th Nitro Buggy with
Futaba 7PX Limited Edition radio and
Futaba HPS CB 700 servos.
The Engine is a Bullitt B-223 .21 size.
Measurements- On OS Based engine between 58-59mm when opened. Which is basically opening between 4.5-5.5mm from a closed carb on any engine. Please note if you need more power don't be worried about opening to the venturi size, but no further.

Hi nice video on the trim,can u explain more on ventury size for engine.thanks
@RyanLutz
@RyanLutz 5 лет назад
SPEED -7 larger Venturi will provide more power in general. You can continue to go smaller Venturi and gain runtime so long as you don’t loose to much power to where you are on the gas harder or longer. Smaller Venturi can also add a little more torque due to increased velocity of the air fuel mixture.

Hi ryan,thanks a lot for your explanation on the venturi,really appreciate it.just been new to this nitro engine.thanks again,and keep it up.

Can you remove the venturi completly if u wanted max power also should you set idle gap from edge of carb body or from the edge of the venturie
@RyanLutz
@RyanLutz 4 года назад
Yes you can remove venturi but it would be better to use the largest venturi you can find because it will have smooth edges and provide better velocity. It should give you more overall power yes but often a smaller venturi can give more initial torque due to the velocity of the air. Idle gap is really user preference. Whatever you do consistently. Personally I just tune as necessary.

Great tip bro. But quick question. U used a pipe spring to keep the throttle closed??

As you saw, I use small rubber bands! 👍🏼

I've normally set the opening to the outside diameter of the venturie. I haven't tried to set it to these dimensions but it appears that it is much short of the outside diameter. Is that correct? Is that to calm the engine or fuel mileage?
@RyanLutz
@RyanLutz 5 лет назад
I discussed it a bit in the video. But the more you limit it, the less power you will have and the smaller tuning window you will have. This will yield more runtime if you get your tune right and you aren't lacking power and thus on the gas longer or harder anywhere. But yes, it is much limited from fully opened to the outside diameter.

@@RyanLutz Ok thank you. I did watch the entire video, and I think my question was more of what was the main objective of setting the carb this way. You answered it in your response - so thank you. Good luck next weekend!

Hi Ryan. I’ve got a couple of questions. Does this measurement change depending on the size of the Venturi? What size Venturi are you running in this video? Thanks for the tip, I’m definitely going to try this.
@RyanLutz
@RyanLutz 5 лет назад
Doesn't change depending on the size of the venturi as far as our sweet spot we have found. In the video I have a 6mm. Some of the pros are now running 5.8mm or maybe even smaller. Hope it all helps! :-)

@@RyanLutz In this video you say max open gap is between 4,75-5,25mm. In your answer you wrote 5,8mm. Can you e check or explain this. Thx.
@RyanLutz
@RyanLutz 5 лет назад
@@nebaartur If you are running a 6mm venturi then 6mm will be full open. You are right though that what I wrote is a bit confusing. I run in the 4.75 - 5mm range most of the time but will go up to 5.8mm if I need the extra power.
@golferchin76
@golferchin76 4 года назад
is that a 6mm venturi? if so, wow your straight line speed is very fast yet you use a 6mm not the 6.5mm venturi. Also, we also use rubber band to make sure the slide return to its position fast just like yours.

what kind of braking set up are u running? is that carbon disk?
@RyanLutz

It's an optional Beta brake setup. It is a metal disk.

Could this by why mine cuts off on *wot* the rest of the transition seams pretty fine
@RyanLutz
@RyanLutz 3 года назад
It's possible it could be due to pulling to far beyond the venturi, could be the tune or it could also be the glowplug is bad.

I got a question why do people do stuff to their transmitter while trying to start it up? im confused about those stuff
@RyanLutz
@RyanLutz 10 месяцев назад
The radio has many settings to be used for various purposes. I know some use an idle up function on startup but personally there isn’t anything I do with my radio for starting up the car. Just different settings for racing.
@ajojoseph6052
@ajojoseph6052 3 года назад
In another video, its says that the carb needs to open to match size of the venturi. If the venturi is say 6.5, video says carb need to open 6.5mm after zeroing the caliper. You say around 5+mm is ok. Can you explain? Also your carb is not opening to at least the full length of the venturi. Obviously this is working for you, any reason why you run it this way?
@RyanLutz
@RyanLutz 3 года назад
It is not necessary to open the carb all the way to end of the venturi. When you limit how far you open the carb you can effectively save fuel economy when racing. The key is that it saves fuel economy as long as you are not on the gas more and longer due to the slight decrease in power. You may also have to adjust the tune a bit too. The only no no is don't open the carb beyond the venturi. Because at that point you are allowing extra fuel in but not extra air and thus making the mixture too rich at full throttle and wasting fuel.
@ajojoseph6052

@@RyanLutz That was a great explanation. Thanks
@michaelinzitari

Just to clarify, are you saying that as soon as you see a perfect circle, that is your throttle end point. As this has no bearing on the low speed needle, wether it’s exposed or not.
@RyanLutz
@RyanLutz 4 года назад
Michael Inzitari yes. I wouldn’t pull past the perfect circle made by your Venturi choice. Then you would need to tune to performance from your chosen setting. Note some engines have short low speed needles and some have long. Some come fully out of the throttle body and some never come fully out.

Can you share your needle settings using a caliper?
@RyanLutz
@RyanLutz 3 года назад
It's really not ideal imo to just go off anothers settings. Temperature, humidity, fuel used, altitude, how you drive all play a factor in the tune. Tip would be if you aren't sure to richen it up and start to lean out slowly from there.
@ajojoseph6052
@ajojoseph6052 3 года назад
@@RyanLutz I agree. Its only a starting reference point. We always have the weather factor variances. Better than turning several times on the needle that too in large increments. I have seen even while using the clutch shoes leading vs trailing direction, changes the performance. I was told the lesser we turn the needles, the longer will be its life.
