Hey Aaron I know you may or may not see this but I just want to say you are an absolute inspiration you have inspired me to start my tank and with what you’ve taught me I’m confident I can do it right your videos have helped me in more way than a tank setup though I developed panic attacks in 2019 and this hobby and your videos have helped me get it under control finally after 2 years your an absolute blessing and I would love to talk fish with you if I ever got the opportunity , your the best!
It's so nice having a RU-vidr who gets by in liters and Celsius. Sometimes it's rather difficult watching American fish RU-vidrs because of the gallons and fahrenheit and such
@@EpicConspiracyIt's NICE not having to do so, makes me focus on the actual matter at hand without having to whip out a converter every 2 minutes into the video
It would be great to see you making videos again Aaron, I got my first marine tank after watching these videos and learned so much. Got the fluval 60l marine tank :) cheers mate!
Thank you so much. Finding this series really helpful. I’m getting an evo today. You’ve gained a subscriber purely because you don’t have ads popping up every 2 minutes.
first video I've found genuinely explaining how to set up a 3 stage filtration system. Everyone else just brags about skimmers and sumps or the absence of them lol.
Thank you for the excellent advice Aaron. Great 6 part video. I was debating between multiple tanks and finally chose this one after seeing all 6 videos. I used the link you provided in your description to purchase from AMNZ; hope they give you some compensation for it.
you’ve inspired me to start my own reef using this tank i watch like all of your videos and my own super cheap reef with zoas sps and some frags with my very own black storm clown is looking awesome after the first sucsessfull few months
Hi ...I noticed you put the heater in the same section as the filter. Is that safe as I have this exact same tank and would benefit room in the tank if I can do the same, thank you in advance..love the bids bud
Great channel and series, I've bought a tank similar to the fluvial only down to no one having this in-stock at the time. I ended up getting the aquamanta nano 60, a little bit more money but a very nice tank. Fluval nano series has really helped me get set up. Gotta get me one of those salt telescopes. It's reminds of a light saber 👍
I’m glad your giving this mini reef tank a go because I’ve been wanting to get one for a while but wasn’t sure if it was going to be any good because of the small price tag! So I’ll keep watching to see what you think and how you get on☺️
Hello, and what happened to that wonderful aquarium with canister, what did you tell us was the best? now you change to an aquarium with side sump. and the canister is no longer useful? could you explain that?
Looks like a mini version of The Wife lol. Great video for any newbie to the hobby Michael. Very well explained, and kept it simple and straightforward to the point 👍🏻
Hey.. this has been a great series. Question though: when looking at buying rocks, what weight of rock would you recommend for this tank? Just so I don’t buy to little or to less of it
Hello, I’m from South Africa and watching your videos they are so interesting and really helpful. Just wanted to know did you use live sand or dry sand for this tank? Which would would you recommend?
Hey Aaron great content thanks. I watch the series on the Fluval a few times now . I've had the tank now for about a year but just set it up today. The rock was dry and the sand was packaged in sea water, I filled the tank with bottled sea water purchased at the aquarium supply store that has salt and bacteria in it . If you can tell me what fish i can choose from for this tank size. I see you have the clowns and they are beautiful but what other fish can thrive in this size aquarium? Thanks.
Loving these videos!! However is it not an issue that the heater for the tank basically touches the wires of the pump in the back?? I’m having a hard time finding a heater that fits back there!
I started with this tank great starter all you need is heater and circulation pump. Now the lid does not allow great ventilation and light is to close to water level and evaporation occurs faster I’d remove lid and run a light without it
Thanks for the info, looking at this tank, Questions might sound abit thick here, but when you start to fill up, you did 3l + salt .. do you this for you full fill up of the 35l or just once?
Great video Michael! Here's a question! My LFS has RO/DI salt water that is ready to buy and bring home. They also have dry rock that they put in a tank and cycle with bacteria. Would you recommend buying the salt RO/DI water? Or just make you own? Additionally, would dry rock that's at my LFS that been cycling with bacteria be just as questionable as live rock? Should I just start with non-cycled dry rock straight into my tank? This was probably the most informational video about a sump that I have found yet! Very informative!
I like the look of that wavemaker and a reasonable price too. I’m interested in the In-Tank unit but can’t believe how much that is, basically 5 flat bits of plastic that slot together - I’m surprised no one has come up with a much cheaper option as anything is better than the foam. I’m interested in how quickly you can introduce fish with the Colony quick cycle liquid and ultimately how many fish you think you could reasonably maintain in the tank. Great videos though, definitely a popular product to run through on You Tube
Hi Aaron, love your content. I have taken the plunge and got my self the fluval evo sea and the same ikea cabinet you got(kallax) is this cabinet fkne to hold the weight of this tank? I went and put legs on it today. Seems study enough. Whats your view on this? Thanks in advance
Great job!! Thank you for sharing, I was looking for a starter aquarium and found it thanks to you. By the way... Is it my computer or the audio of this video has to much output? Because it distorts the audio in the computer.
I failed terribly with this tank. Probably spent close to $1K on equipment & livestock (fish & corals). No matter what corals I placed in this tank they all died. I replaced the stock pump, light, filter racks, added a skimmer & nano wave maker. I even setup a refugium with an external LED light. However, I found that this tank always ran hot. It was a constant struggle! I gave up on adding corals until eventually taking my losses & dumping the tank altogether. Worse purchase I’ve ever made. 😒
Another great video mate, ive been looking at getting a nano and tempted to get this for a yasha pistol shrimp pair as id rather have them in their own tank rather than getting lost in my community reef.
Hi Aaron love the vids fam.. looking at getting my first tank a juwel rio 180 have u come across one before is it too big of a tank to get started with? Appreciate the vids man love from Birmingham
I'm just setting up my first Nano reef, filled it yesterday after converting from a freshwater tank. Always wondered about the water, but luckily we have just moved to Perth and have a great clean beach near by to top up containers with clean ocean water. I want to know what you are going to put in chamber 1, as I am thinking of upgrading the 3 stage filtration at the back, and also getting an RFG to help with the flow.
Justin Clark if you use fresh sea water you really are going to screw up your aquarium wind unwanted disease and critters. You should only be using RO water to make your seawater
Thank you for the informative video Aaron. I need your help. I started cycling my tank and the little wave maker I placed inside the tank is causing the temperature of my 15 Gallon nano Waterbox tank to increase to 84 degrees F. I'm reading that Clown fish and corals should be around 79 F. If I run the wave maker, the water is too warm for the livestock. How am I going to get good flow without overheating the water? Help you can provide some advice.
I removed my bioballs and I had seachem matrix to make room for other things inmy hob. I was told I didnt need them IfI have live rock, are you just saying to use if a person dosnt have life rock for the bio filter?
@@Jack-cn8im it's not an instant cycle as such, but does speed things up dramatically and keeps the ammonia levels down if you're doing a fish in cycle. although in my experience the nitrites still stay pretty high through out the cycle, but they're less harmful than the ammonia. Dr tims one and only and ATM colony are ones that i've used with good results.
I love these videos, extremely helpful! I have a quick question. If I can’t acquire a wave maker, would installing a random flow generator do the trick for my corals?
That should do the trick just fine depending on the corals you have. The dimensions of that tank are compact enough to where a wave maker may be overkill in conjunction with the existing return pump flow. Just pay attention to your dead zones and you should be golden 👌 hope this helps
@@vinnieholmquist7732 thanks! I currently have the duckbills and no wavemaker but plan on trying to upgrade to the random flow generator first to give it a try. Thanks for the advice!! 👍
Does every bucket of salt water you do have the same amount of salt in it ...so confused because the bucket you used didn't fill the tank .....so wht do you do with the 2nd and 3rd bucket ?? Is it just treated water or do you do same as the first bucket till you've filled tank ??? Just confused because wouldn't it be two much salt in end if you did same as first bucket
Love the video have a question I see that you mix your own salt.. I will be getting thos same tank next week... should I buy and mix the salt myself or can I buy pre-mixed salt water....thanks for your information ....
If you have the ability to mix yourself that would be the better option, then you will know it has been done correctly with good water and good salt. Sometimes you don't know what you are getting with LFS premixed saltwater. That being said, if you trust your LFS and it's more convenient to buy premixed water then that's fine also.
I am switching out or replacing my 10 gallon fluval ascend for this simply beacuse of the fact I can use a skimmer! Yet most are saying not to. I religiously change 40 percent of my water onece a week to 10 days a few time but mostly around every 8 day and my nitrates are around 10 to 20 right b4 the water change. I dont over feed my fish but those damn reef roids are the problem. My walls start needing cleaning after 4 days and I only feed corals with roids 2 x a week, my filter floss needs changing after the feeding' Poeple say you dont need to dose or need a skimmer if you keep up on wc then how can I bring down nitrates without one? I should have around 2 nitrates I believe not 10 to 20! I thought skimming would get the food and liquids out of water and also If I need to I can dose with nopox, which I cant without a skimmer. You think xtra media would be better for me? Maybe a refugium instaed. How do I bring down nitrates? Can I put an additive?
Fluval do the flex tanks for freshwater (I have the 34L version), and I have seen them used for salt also. They come pretty much set up like this one with the foam filter/media and the pump.
that expensive system for a qt? all you need for gt is a big or atleast 10 gallon bucket with maybe some sand and/or a hob filter with sponge that has BB on it and a heater depending on what fish you want i personally don't have a heater in my display tank as my house is usually 74
I had the red sea max nano, great tank. But would I get it again, no. By the time you've added a wavemaker to it, rock sand etc you'll be at almost 1000 pounds and in my opinion it just isnt worth it
Love this series, I have been looking at this tank for ages! Anyone know if it would be suitable for a bubble tip anemone and 2 clownfish? Cheesy stocking choice I know but that's what I like :)
Love your personality and have keenly watched many of your other videos. Have finally taken the saltwater plunge, encouraged by you starting this series and have got myself an evo just last week. Really looked forward to this video and enjoyed it however the two things that I am struggling with you unfortunately skipped over and they are, rock on bare bottom then add sand or vice versa and secondly do you stick your rock together and what with. Carry on with the great videos and I am already looking forward to ep.3.
I had the Fluval Evo the quality is poor was very disappointed when we received it. We returned it the next day. Better getting Innovative Marine or Waterbox aquarium and purchasing your own light that actually keeps corals alive and thriving.
Jose Davila will depend on your budget. IM build quality nano tanks but price point is a lot higher and you also need to buy a light. If you want to go more expensive then the Red Sea nano looks really nice
a fish in 24 hrs ?!!! i cycled my tank for a almost a month before i added fish. You at least need to add starter bacteria and ammonia to get the cycle going and wait days or weeks
