The probe really needs to be inside the tank for proper reading. If it’s say, set to 90, and the probe is on top of the mat, you’re going to be losing heat within the enclosure. Place the probe in the enclosure so the mat knows if it needs to put out a bit more for the desired temperature.
We do not recommend adding the probe inside the tank unless you can firmly secure it. If your animal moves the probe it can skyrocket the temperature making it dangerous for your pet. We just turn up the heat until we reach the desired temperature inside. I use a temperature gun or digital thermometer to check the internal temperatures.
I think there is a piece of white paper you peel off the other side of the mat and actually that sticky side gets stuck to the bottom of the enclosure or on the side of the enclosure wherever you’re going to place it, but the sticky side goes towards the glass so I’m pretty sure that was upside down.
We don’t recommend using the sticky part. Glue fails when it heats up. It falls off and leaves a stick mess. I prefer to have it heat up with air between the pad and glass.
I’ve tried the Zilla and ZooMed thermostats and for some reason I can’t get either to reach the right temperature. Both run way too hot until I put them below about 75, then all of a sudden they run too cold. Is it a problem with my outlets?
Im terrified that I will melt the probe. I'm gonna try just having weight over that side under deep substrate. Its a baby ball python so it shouldnt move things
Only thing I hate about this thermostat is the thermistor. It does not need to have the thick plastic at the base of the thermistor. That can damage the coils inside the pad. Cutting it off is honestly best. But gotta be very careful doing so
Wait a sec,,, I thought this heat pad has a sticky side that you stick to the underside of the aquarium. Does this pad heat up 🆙 n both sides? And also, can I do what you did but with the probe sandwiched between sticky side and the aquarium?
It’s frustrating because they picture to do it that way but when you heat up adhesive it falls off. I prefer to put the pad under the tank with probe on top. Heat rises and will still heat the glass.
It works. It will just keep shutting off your light if the probe senses above the set temp you set. Its so the lamp doesn't get too hot if it stays on for hours.
@@prestonponson5895thank you mate, I ended up going for a dimming stat. Slightly more expensive than an on off but works way better, consistently keeps the temps better 😊
