This tutorial shows how to set up an external graphics card on a laptop without taking it apart and without removing your Wi-Fi card from the mini PCI-E slot, also without using thunderbolt 3 port. This upgrade is usually for gaming purposes, graphics design, or movie making.
This approach addresses three of the common challenges of using desktop graphics cards externally with laptops.
1. First is odd of having to give up your wi-fi card mini PCIe slot in order to attach the eGPU cable.
2. Second is the issue of size, that’s the portability of the components required to implement this scheme, more specifically, the power adapters.
3. The third is, of course, the issue of cost.
Here are the components needed:

My laptop is 11 years old. It's seen me through university, important milestones, and done projects professional and personal. It's gotten dropped, had water spilled on it, died several times, gotten fixed, upgraded, and now it's basically a low-level Frankenstein monster of a computer-- but I absolutely love it. It's outlived several of my friends' desktops and laptops, all of them newer, with them using them with less strenuous work. With your video, I hope to be able to keep it for much longer and play more games and edit more videos with it. Thank you for this!

Hello! Thanks for your supportive video but I have a question. When I plugged in the eGPU to the laptop, there's no notification showed up. Did I miss something in the setup process? I used EXP GDC 8.5 and STG 960 btw, for the power supply I use an extra laptop adapter but the GTX still running (spinning up). Thanks for reading!

Really nice video. Please, is there any way I can have an external pcie slot on Imac 2016(running on bootcamp). I've been trying to connect a firewire audio device through the thunderbolt port(using a thunderbolt-firewire adapter) but it's not working. So, I'm thinking of a pcie firewire.

Hello- Thanks for the great tutorial! I'd like to ask for your help regarding the Express card adapter- I have a Lenovo w530 and want to use this solution. It came with the Nvidia Quadro K2000M adapter (internal). I'm hoping to eventually run a Nvidia 3070 graphics card and drive the laptop screen & 2 external monitors. Question - I have noticed different version of the - Express Card Mini PCI-E Version V8.0 EXP GDC PCIe adapter. When I looked for the hardware on Ebay, I noticed some vendors listing a v8.5 version. Is there a difference and would that cause a problem based on my laptop model? On your t website linked above there is a version 8.4 I'm not sure how this might impact the operation, if I attempted to use that version with my current hardware. Also - there are additional codes listed in the item description- A6M0 AC774 AC773 I'm not sure how to interpret those and would be grateful for any insight you or anyone reading this thread could provide regarding the information I am seeking. How do you convert the express slot part of the beast dock is you don't have a normal express slot? For this you'd need an adapter of some kind to be able to meet and convert to usb

my setup is not working for me, im using NEC versapro laptop, Geforce GTS 250. I used cardbus adaptor for the expresscard but it doesn't recognize or its not showing up in the device manager but shows 2 usb root hub. do you have any idea, how to solve it?, or should I replace my graphic card with a higher one?

Is this plug n play? When you finish setting up everything, if you plug in the expresscard into a laptop that's already on do the external monitors work automatically? And does the laptop screen switch over to use the Nvidia card automatically?

PLEASE HELP! My gpu wont turn on when i plug everything in while the laptop is on. However, it does turn on when the laptop is off and i turn it on while its plugged in, but the screen doesnt react properly and i get a colorful screen followed by a static screen.

Nice guide! I got one of these for an old HP notebook running a Turion CPU with probably a built in GPU. My goal is to install a fanless GT710 (or 720, not sure) nVidia GPU to get at least the heat out of the notebook. I think I'll probably get some performance improvement, also.

question?!? would of I use a ec03 expresscard 2.0 to usb 3.0 adapter for a egpu beast for a asus 15 f512da? 3500u, vega 8, 2x4gb ddr4 and a 256gb m.2 ssd. pair it with a gtx 750 ti 2gb gddr5. Great video man, it's a really clean and straight foward tutorial and review for the EXP GDC. I already have experience using Exp GDC on my Thinkpad X220, it's a great choice for those who want the portability of a notebook but with the gaming power of a desktop. Right now i'm lookin for a way to improve the looks and portability of my Egpu setup, as i don't have yet a case for it not even the dell D220 power supply, but i'm going to solve that soon.

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a lenovo g560 laptop with expresscard slot. Im currently using exp gdc beast expresscard version and a gtx 960 2gb gpu. When i try to boot my laptop with expresscard connected it shows a black screen and if i boot it without connecting egpu it boots normally. So i decided to plug egpu after laptop is booted but then it isnt detected in device manager. Both my gpu and psu fans are spinning. I dont know what to do. And since not many people are using expresscard version i cannot find any help online. It would be great if anyone could help with this issue. Please comment.

I couldn't help but notice your have a Lenovo T530, but that is not listed as a supported laptop. So the T530 worked even thought he T530 was not listed?
