"Hold down page to go backwards" - I'm sure it's on the instructions which I never read....LoL..... 3 yrs with my Taeanis and and I've been cycling through all the darn pages every time I go past the one I wanted! Great video!
Thank you so much for this video helped me a lot! Can you also tell me how to adjust the VFAS voltage on the Taranis to be the same as my multimeter shows for the battery? Because it does not really measure the correct voltage of the batteries.
+xuxusito Yes... I'm going to try to get a quick video out just for that. I couldnt remember off hand how to do the voltage offset while I was filming. I should have the voltage offset video done by Wednesday so please check back.
+xuxusito I held off on the video because as it turns out, there is a voltage offset in the new version of Betaflight and I'm not 100% sure which works better. I need a little time to review what is the best way to configure the voltage offset. At first glance, the settings in Betaflight look to be the better solution.
thank you for this compact and structured contribution to the world of taranis tutorials. With your help i managed to set up the radio to my needs within a very short time.
Hi, why can I not see CELLS or CELL in the SPECIAL FUNCTIONS screen when I choose to play VALUE? I am trying to get my Taranis to read out the cell/cells value at the flick of a switch. I am running the 2.1.9 version. Your help would be appreciated.
ok I got it all setup.. but now my taranis and cleanflight say the same value in voltage numbers , but the voice callout says about .5 volts higher. so why is my voice callout higher than the actual VFAS reading?
This video was clutch for me. Clear, concise, and I love the bonus volume knob/pot. Made my life about a billion times easier. Thanks for putting it up. :)
BIG HELP, THANKS A BUNCH .. THESE VIDEOS REALLY HELP... THANKS FOR YOUR VERY EASY TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS.. SOME TALK TO MUCH AND TRY TO EXSPAIN TO MUCH .. YOUR PRETTY STRIGHTFOWARD AND TO THE PONT.. PEOPLE THAT DRIVE CARS DONT HAVE TO KNOW ALL ASPECTS OF WHAT ALL TAKES PLACE TO OPERATE THE CAR , THEY JUST WANT TO TURN A KEY AND IT CRANKS AND DRIVES ... THE POINT IN THIS ,IS THAT YOU TEACH VERY WELL WITHOUT TO MUCH INFO LOL GOD BLESS CRAIG
I use the kiss fc and the frsky XSR :O But under discover sensors., i can only see SWR, RSSI, RxBt, and A2.... there is no VFAS. I tried to arm it.. still only those 4 sensors. and yes . i connected the telemetry wire to AUX 1 on the Kiss FC, as it should :(
I'm having this same problem! I've been trying for awhile now to fix it, but no luck. I tried updating my Taranis firmware, still nothing. Let me know if you figure it out!
I just think i found the problem! :D The new firmware beta update (1.02) for the Kiss FC, got this patch note in it: "FrSky Smartport telemetry support" I will be updateing my kiss fc and hope for the best :D hopefully it will work. You can find it on the Kiss FC product page on flyduino.net
Update to the latest KISS/GUI as well if you're updating to the newest/latest builds. They manage the AUX channels differently so your switches won't work if you just update the firmware. Just a heads up! :)
Hi Bill, my issue is that I don't see the "Discover..." option. When I turn on my quad and arm Clean Flight I do see the the blinking asterisks. I'm running 2.1 on the non-Plus Taranis.
Great and wvery well done, just one missing step when on the second column (where VFAS is) you need to press ENT and select Telemetry as the input otherwise you only get the actual physical switches showing My Firmware version 2.1.9 Also I still cant work out how to display the chosen sensors on Page 12 the telemetry screen
Thanks David. I'll have to revisit this... I made this video a while ago. As for the telemetry sensors, if I remember, the board needs to be armed. This may vary with SBUS (which wasnt really a thing back in 2015 LOL)
Hi, Great vid and helped me alot. Question if I may. How do I setup 2 model memories for a 3s and 4s version? will it simply already be bound t my quad if I copy memory 1 and adjust vfas low v alarm for 3s? many thanks.
+Russell Cleaver Yes... the Tarranis is bound to your D4R-ii no matter which model memory you use. No need to rebind. Copy the model, then adjust the VFAS for the 3s voltages and you should be good to go. Glad this video helped!
I have a D4R-ii. Its wired to a Naze32 Acro and it has the telemetry pin connected. The D4R has the pins jumped so it is using PPM. Note that this video is SPECIFICALLY for PPM. Not SBUS.
I agree I was just saying the instead of a switch up and a switch down using 2 special function you can use one special function and the switch would be called "on" assigned to s1 or s1. just a neater way of setting it up.
+Oliver Peters I see what your saying now. I'm going to experiment with your idea. Frankly the Taranis audio is terrible at best and it would be nice to turn it off completely.
Yeah its not great but its useful. Do the speaker mod if you want more volume and less tin. Its easy enough if you like tinkering. Which most of us do ☺
+Bill Sheley here's the link to my article, thank you for the contribution for 2.1 telemetry setup. flitetest.com/articles/a-better-low-battery-alarm-taranis
If your using an x8r you should really take advantage of the fact that it runs SBUS rather than use PPM. You will get much better performance AND SBUS does not require you to arm the flight controller to see telemetry data. I hope this helps.
Which receiver do you have and how do you connect it to obtain all of this 'sensors'? I'm newie, I have CC3D (OpenPilot), X8R and Taranis X9D Plus (with OTX 2.1) Thanks in advance.
+Henry Henry Hi Henry, if you are using an X8R, you should use SBUS instead of PPM. SBUS has many benefits over PPM including that the sensors are visable to the Taranis without actually having to arm the board. As soon as the X8R gets power, it will provide sensor data to the Taranis. Check out @Painless360 youtube channel. He has great tutorials on setting up SBUS within Cleanflight.
+Bill Sheley thanks for your interest but I just wanted to connect the CC3D with the telemetry port. I think the conclusion it's CC3D is not capable of it. In theory it's just to connect flexi port with telemetry port and configure it, but I'm not be able to do it 😢

hi i have a problem my radio dosent show any rssi at all... (but its not the transmitters fault, i use 2 x4r sbs and they both work but dont show any rssi)
Maybe try setting up a new model from scratch on the Taranis? Can you see any RSSI info when FC is connected to cleanflight and powered on with radio powered on?
Thanks! I was pulling my hair out on this one after updating the Taranis firmware. Then I had to figure out why my voltage was off by .5 Volts which was because I was using the old Amber Sound pack for 2.0
That's the voltage I set my alarm to but some folks are more (or less) conservative. He sets his alarm at 3.8V... not unusual nor terribly off, plus he's using a 4S battery (multiply the per cell voltage by four). I've known people who set their alarm at 3.3V because they're crazy like that. YMMV.
Great video thank you, I too upgraded and lost my voltage telemetry from my naze. I used to have to have it set up to give an alarm at 3.8 cel, and crit warning at 3.5 cel. Which was handy as it worked for both 3s or 4s. Is this not possible anymore as I can only seem to find the full pack voltage (VFAS)?
+LeakyMeat You are correct. In the latest iteration of OpenTX, the developers decided that calculating individual cell voltage by dividing total pack voltage was "dangerous" and "inaccurate" because you could have a damaged cell in a pack which is draining faster than the others . So there is no longer individual cell voltage. So now you need a copy of your model for 3S , 4S, 5S, ... etc..
+Bill Sheley Thanks for the reply, it is a little annoying to me having to have a model setup for both 3s and 4s just because it introduces the possibility of me forgetting to change model in the field, but I guess the reasoning for it does kinda make sense.
+Bill Sheley very true, i have been tempted in the past putting an osd on but since getting the taranis im happy enough to get audio alarms for voltage and rssi
