I'll be picking up my 5-gal. pot Tuesday. I'm chomping at the bit! Stripping 6.5 gal batches with the 2.5gal. I bought from you last year has become tedious, hence the need for a bigger pot. Then I can strip 4gal. into singlings then run the last 2.5gal in the little pot with the singlings in the thumper and get it all done in two runs like civilized humans do.
Awesome! For that exact reason we actually discontinued the 2.5 gallon still. It's a lot of work for very little return. Are you picking up from our shop?
It may be something we offer in the future. The problem is, if we provide everything, the still now costs an extra $100 for the customer. You can basically get everything you need off of our website already. We have a list that is linked to all the items on Amazon Prime, so you can effectively purchase your still, then purchase your fittings, etc. and sourcing them there is gonna save you $50 or more since we do not have to keep them stocked.
North Georgia Still Customer Care just ordered one the other day. Does it come with the temp gauge? I can't find nothing on the site about it but in the pic it looks like the pot has a hole in it for one??
@@travismessick5861 all of our stills come with a thermometer port. We dont provide the thermometer. They can be found on Amazon. It is a 1/2 threaded port, designed for a 1/2 threaded thermometer. We reccomend the concord brand on Amazon.
@@burkehoward1511 Not too bad. Few hours at best with 3/8 OD. This is a 5 gallon basic setup designed to get the beginner and those on a budget into the hobby affordably. We also offer this still with 1" as well. Here: north-georgia-still-company.myshopify.com/collections/custom-stills/products/5-gallon-custom-still And up to 2" on larger stills if run time is a concern.
@@northgeorgiastillcustomerc9814 do y'all sale separate parts that are already made. I seny an email to your customer servixe department asking some questions about prices I forgot to ask about parts. Do you have a number to call for questions
@@stephenknecht7189 just depends one what exactly you're looking for. Give us a call 770-374-8990. If we don't answer leave us a message and we'll get back to you!
The instructions go over all of the different cuts. Your heads are generally anything above 160 proof, and can be between 10-20 percent of your run. Your heads can be saved though for blending or redistilling. The foreshots is what you want to totally discard. Generally you'll discard every few ounces for every 5 gallons of wash.
I'm new here and lucky to be alive. I'm going to be leaving Colorado and going back to Ohio backwoods and I want to learn how to make this shine. I can't walk anymore so you will have to ship me everything I need to start. 10 gallon would be enough for now.
One pot boils a liquid. Another pot condenses the steam (distills). That has been a still since ancient times. What does the 3rd pot do? Hope you will make another video showing the whole set-up in operation, in slow and exact detail of each step in the processing (while in action). Thank you. Silly question: Why don't these extra necessary parts come with the still? Seems the 2 lengths of copper and fittings could come in the same box, rather than me having to make an extra trip to hunt them down.
Thanks for the suggestions. We plan to make more videos in the future. A more detailed setup and explanation of function is definitely on the list! There are a couple reasons we dont provide the fittings and tubing. There are tons of different ways to set these stills up, and everyone will have a slightly different setup than others. Spacing will determine hom much tubing you need, and that is determined by the area you will run it. Instead of folks having to try to force an area to fit their still, they are able to fit their still to their own needs. The other reason is cost. We dont want to charge you for things that you can get cheaper on your own, or charge you for a certain fitting that you dont want. We do keep a list on our website for everything you need. It is all hyperlinked to Amazon. That way you can order everything at once and have it all shipped to your door. Or you can print the list and shop locally if you prefer. Thanks!
Also, to answer your question about each component. The main pot heats your wash and turns it into alcohol vapor. The middle piece is a thumper. They are filled with a little liquid (usually your wash, but you can use many different things). The vapor from the pot is forced into the liquid into your thumper to condense and revaporize. This acts like a secondary distillation (not a true double distillation though). The thumper helps gain proof, and add hints of flavors. The last station is the worm. The worm condenses all your vapors back into a liquid. Please let us know if you have anymore questions!
@@northgeorgiastillcustomerc9814 I would be inclined to buy an all-inclusive parts kit exactly the lengths shown in your video. I have the space for that. I prefer things that are "ready to go" right out of the box. Always. Thanks.
@@northgeorgiastillcustomerc9814 In that case, you ought to also sell a simpler (and cheaper) two-pot model. A customer could decide, case by case, whether to repeat distilling for a secondary distillation or to increase proof.
@@davidb2206 We do! You can pick and choose which components you want. This video just demonstrates with all three, as that is our most popular setup. We also have a section on our website dedicated to truly customizing sizes, plumbing, gauge, etc..
Do you have a setup demo of the 50 gallon Ultimate Distiller's Kit? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on that rig and would love to see more on it. Thanks!
Hey Brad! We dont have any videos of the 50 gallon. Setup for that still is pretty simple and straightforward though. All your connections are already done for you. Just hook it up and you're ready to go!
