So helpful - we're setting it up today and your step by step instructions helped a TON. Do not know what exactly you put in the gray filter cases, but will look for something like it. Will also look for your followup video and, hopefully a "cleaning your Emperor 450"" video! Thanks for your content!
Oh it is TIME for a cleaning video! I like to let them get gross first and this one is ready. There are links to acceptable bio medias in the description so be sure to check that out. Glad I could help!
Great video, and congrats on 1k subscribers. I liked how you crossed the streams, lol. I mix and match stuff all the time and this could be a good topic for a video for you. Like how Tetra and Top Fin power filter cartridges are compatible and Marineland and Walmart Aqua Tech are pretty much the same filter minus the bio wheel. I save money buying Tetra brand cartridges for my Top Fin filters.
I use the intake sponge on the intake and i use another sponge inside the filter insted of the round media basket and filled the sponge 3/4 full with k2 bio media. So many options with the emperor!
You can remove the middle basket and replace it with the optional micron filter. The manual suggests the following can be put in the media basket: carbon, zeolite, K2 bio media, or ceramic rings.
The micron insert is a joke. U cant run a micron filter before the water is filtered. It plugs in no time. Your better off cutting a micron polishing pad and sandwiching it in the grey cartridge. It works way better.
The impeller is stuck in the motor of mine, I tried pulling it out and it broke, so I started using pliers n it still won’t budge, idk what’s going on with it but something ain’t right considering I watched you remove it with ease .. any advice
I would think something else must be lodged in there like a snail or a rock. It should definitely come right out. You might have luck calling Marineland support to see if they would replace it.
Small fish can always get sucked in. If you have very small fish, like fry or certain nano fish, it's best to put a coarse sponge in place of the intake.
It’s been running great. I’d like to get a couple more for other tanks. I think the issue would be if the power cord gets pinched? Or maybe there’s another cause for those complaints, but how will the motor itself catch fire under water? All I can say is that it has been great for me personally and I find it to be better than the original Emperor filters.
Several months ago I went out and bought this exact same filter as I thought it was actually kind of a neat concept. I ran it for about 3 months and gave it a fair and un-bias shake against my Aquaclear and Tidal 110's and this filter is hands down "one" of the worse filters out there!! Extremely limited amount of bio media capacity and even worse amount of mechanical filtering capacity compared to the Tidal 110 and even worse when stacked up against the Aquaclear110! Plus, nothing like a filter that requires a person to be constantly going out buying replacement filter cartridges all the time!!
I know a lot of people replace the filter cartridges with foam and other mods to keep from replacing them. I rinse them several times before replacing and I'll be looking at some mod options, too. I definitely like filters that just have sponges you can rinse out and I completely agree on that. I loaded this filter up with bio media, both in the basket and in the side containers. But you cannot overlook the bio-wheels. They are why you won't need all that media, so long as you keep them turning. I plan to take out the extra media at some point to help me start new tanks.
@@FishyReview Hi, you should do a head to head with this put up against the equivalent Tidal and Aquaclear filters as far as total mechanical and bio filter capacity. Yeah, I got 3 cleanings out of the filter cartridges on mine before they were just to worn out and needed replacing. Plus, when you look at the total thickness of the floss on the cartridges, it's only about 1/4" thick for cripes sakes and is a pretty loose weave ta boot.
