I compared your skill and Craft to two other very experience upholstery sewers. You had even more speed and quality refinished work of a Master Craftsman Kim. You are extremely GIFTED. I hope to see more of your teachings, training skills to learn how to Master like you. Thank you so very much for your Craftsman quality time and training. It is indeed top of the line and among the very best teachers out there in this profession.

I watched your video many times and used your technique to make chair cushions. I have been sewing for decades, but never upholstered. This technique worked very well and the best part was that any small errors ended up at the backs of the cushions. I made the zipper "turn the corners," that is, a little larger than the width of the cushions for ease of on and off. Thanks so much for your generosity in making the video.

Very clear video. I have been handed some vinyl and foamplastic to make a booster cushion for my newest grandson's highchair. Now I have finally figured how zips are incorporated in these cushions, and I feel knowledgeable enough to proceed with confidence. A back, and two sized seats to fit an antique highchair.

I just bought a dining room set that has wood chairs, They are very hard to sit on and I decided to make some cushions for it. I wanted to pipes the edges also. My mother was a great sewer and taught tailoring and pattern drafting. So I learned a lot from her, but she died young and I have discovered You Tube. I am so grateful that you are on here, as I have not sewn uphostery fabric...I've mostly sewn apparel and quilts. I thought your video was the best. I taught me how to mark the corners to match the bottom, how the best way to sew the zipper panel in, how to match up and finish the cording...What a fabulous lesson! Thank you so much! I don't think you missed anything. It was very clear to me.

Oh my goodness, I m so happy I came across your video of the boxed cushion. Seems I have done too much, work for nothing. I learned how to make slip covers about 18 years ago I taught myself from the library books and videos. But you gave me such a revelation of the boxed cushion. Since I really didn’t know how to do piping between all the layers, so I would pin the cut the fabric and sew the piping cord onto the face and the same with the closing of the cords! Thanks so much for making it easier for me and all the sewing lovers out there. I’ll be back.

Wow, I've made two very simple types of pillow covers just by measuring the pillow form and going for it. These projects took me forever... I do however, incorporate my paintings, and my hand dyed fabrics. You made this so simple for me, I hope! God bless you sweetie!! I don't have any cording so I'll buy some and get started on this project soon! Thank you so much! Janet

Wow! Who knew that sewing a cushion was as involved as it is! This video may not be 'perfect' for the novice sewer, however, if you watch it enough times, and you are observant enough, you will get the some invaluable tips on how to make a quality piece! For example, I saw that Kim used a one piece strip for the boxing, (rather than a strip with four seams at each corner like I used.) This makes creating the 'box' so much easier and gives the cushion a much nicer look in the end!

I watched with a critical eye, Kim, and I couldn't find anything wrong with this video. You gave pertinent information with your usual skill. The camera work was good. The sound quality was a bit muted in places, but I understood what you meant. You were wearing a dark color and looked a bit tired, but that wouldn't make someone give a thumb-down. You've had a troll, I suspect, who gets paid by the comment -- why, I can't figure. Don't fret over it. I learned a number of things. Thanks.

I have a home decor sewing business and cushion requests come up several times a year. I'm learning that I like cushion orders more than window treatments because of the easy turn around. No hardware to install and fewer design elements to walk customers through. That being said, I have wanted to get more comfortable with the cushion process. This video follows professional methods closer to many others out there. What might not make sense at first, quickly becomes clear if you have a cushion you are in the process of making. I have watched this video several times, but it wasn't until I was working on a cushion order that I could get my head around some of the techniques shown here. Your methods are my go to for getting around my learning curves.

This is my first upholstering project and *gulp* first ever time sewing and/or using my sewing machine that my mother-in-law gave me three years ago. The chair is completely finished except for the seat cushion! I can't wait to tackle the cushion today if the kids let me get to it. I'm going to do exactly what you've done here. KimsUpholstery Kim, an update! I recently had a baby but now I'm back to myself and ready to finish that cushion. I just bought a cording foot for my old Brother XR-46 and I'm ready to begin. Just watched this video again for a brush up. As soon as this chair is complete I'll begin the sofa! I will upload pictures for you as soon as it's complete! Sometime in mid June I HOPE!!! Let me ask you some advice since you're a seasoned pro. Have you ever converted a two cushion to one large cushion? Our sofa is 6 foot and with everyone on it (5 of us) I find that I'm always the one on the "crack" so this is my solution. I'm buying all new foam so before I slice and dice I was wanting to get an opinion. My mom said go for it but...she's not very crafty. Another question for you (I hope I'm not taking advantage!) how can I attach my long cushion to the sofa so that the kids aren't always somehow moving it 2-3 inches away from the back? Might just be that the foam is old and smashed. My mom's old sofa has hooks that keep the long cushion in. Thanks for the video and feedback! I'm off to make muffins :-)
@KimsUpholstery
@KimsUpholstery 10 лет назад
Hooks like are in your moms would definitely be the way especially with one cushion. This will keep the ends from lifting up if someone is in the middle of the cushion. Can't wait to see the finished project Congratulations on your baby! Kim

I'm just starting to make covers for cushions from my grandparent's furniture. Last time I made them like a pillowcase and sewed them on. After watching your video I'm trying a box cushion. You make it look so easy.

This was my first video that you did...I will be going through all of your videos. I do agree that if you are a non sewer you wouldn't understand corners etc..but since I've been sewing for a day or two (54 yrs)..I thought it was a great job...well done.

Oh how I wish I had watched this before I cut the fabric! I cut all of the box edges so now I have four pieces I have to sew back together. Great video, super easy to follow. Thanks for your hard work.

Thank you! I promised a friend I would cover her cushions. I am an experienced seamstress but I've never done a cushion cover with cording before. This saved me time and noodling around. Great tutorial!

I appreciate the speed and clarity of this video, thanks. I’ve made my piping having followed your video on that and believe I understand the steps required to complete the box cushion. The tricky bit will be those little flaps but I’ll give it a go. By cushion 8 I’ll be a master ! Thanks again, I’ll be watching again no doubt.

This was great! What I'd love to see, in addition, is a short tutorial on how to fold the fabric where it meets the zipper. I can probably figure it out, once I get to this step, but it went so fast it was hard for me to tell exactly how you did it! Great info, beautiful sewing!

Kim, I was looking for something completely different, however I personally found your video very informative and well done. I stayed and watched the whole thing even though I know I'll never do this. Don't let negative comments get in the way of your fine job.

Oh my, a sewing room to die for. I understand that this is your business that you work at, but I just can't help but wishing I had 1/10th your space to work in. Just had to downsize into a condo, so that's out now. I am making cushions for a rocking chair. I do a little and stop. Got to think how to do the next step. Even though I watch some videos on RU-vid, it still is a bit hard to get it straight in my head on how to go forward. Talk about being nervous! Your video has helped tremendously. I thank you for posting and sharing your expertise. I just pause it a lot and re-view it over and over until I understand it. I live in New Westminster, BC, CA; and am a 70 y.o. retired woman. And my condo looks like a storage facility with all the cushion sewing stuff out on the table along other things that have to be done. I will write about my experience on doing this project and send it to you via email. I don't suppose anyone would like to read it on this posting. It is quite funny when I think about though. I became quite perfectionistic about it. Anyhow, thanks again. Will be in touch.

I don’t watch videos with poor sound. Yours was great. I might have to review how to install a zipper, but that alright. Don’t let the negatives comments bother you. If people can’t read a ruler and add, they don’t need to be sewing anyway. Good job. I learned what I need to know. I’m not sewing a cushion, I needed to know how to sew a cover for my camping supplies. You were spot on. Thank you :) --- timeless ---
