in this video i'll show you how to create a custom bucket hat pattern - so you can have full control of the design
this is a great first project even if you've never made a pattern or sewn anything before.
i'll also show you how to sew it!
xo,
natalia
PRINTABLE PDF PATTERN I MADE IN THIS VIDEO: drive.google.com/file/d/1y8bo...
1. PATTERN PAPER I USE: www.moodfabrics.com/dotted-pa...
2. RULER I USE: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000V5...
SEWING AND PATTERNMAKING TOOLS I LOVE besides the ruler haha:
FABRIC SCISSORS: amzn.to/2GewMvW
THREAD SNIPS: amzn.to/2S0twXO
SEAM RIPPER: amzn.to/3i4T2G6
BALL POINT PINS: amzn.to/2EyZK9v
STRAIGHT DRESSMAKER PINS: amzn.to/3kOsc6R
MAGNETIC PIN CUSHION/HOLDER: amzn.to/36kNo0r (not the exact one I have, but very similar)
If you click one of the amazon links above (besides the first and second links aka the ruler and pattern paper) and purchase something, the price wont change and my channel earns a small affiliate commission. it doesn't even have to be the item you clicked on either!

Thank you for this tutorial. This is the third type of bucket hat I’ve done and I like this one the best. I’m a true believer in basting because it helps to assure clean seams. It’s also wonderful to see young people sewing and creating. I thought it was becoming a lost art but your generation is helping to keep it alive!

Other videos (that has bigger views) and sites doesn't seem to help that much since, they aren't showing how this became that etc. Kudos to you for thoroughly explaining it :) I understood everything. I liked making the patterns because I have tracing paper, which I normally use for copying celeb autographs. That curve describes an angle, and I used two different curves in the same hat, 3/16th or 0.1875 and 5/32 or 0.15625 of an inch for an ever-so-slightly jaunty look. I made the lining out of silk scraps and the hat is made of wool (curtains actually) from fabric samples. Notches are very useful and handy so thanks for that as this is my first project using a pattern. and making a pattern. I'm 60 and sheltering in place so I bought a sewing machine to learn something useful and perhaps fun. SOOO much fun. While others my age are dying by the thousands, God rest their souls, I've made masks (duh) a t-shirt, 2 jackets, a jewel box, lots of hats (I'm bald so...) a wallet, a leather backpack and dozens of stuffed animals. Penguins and dolphins for me and my girl and lots of pincushions lol. Loved your tutorial, but a little confused on how to attach brim to hat...
@nataliadedios
@nataliadedios 4 года назад
you’ll have 2 brim pieces cut! then, sew each piece at 1/4” seam allowance to form a circle ⭕️! press the seam allowances flat. lay the two circles ⭕️ on top of each other right side to right side. Sew at 1/4” seam allowance along the outer edge of the circle! flip inside out and press. now, this will start looking like a brim! topstitch all around the circle at 1/4” seam allowance (start from the outer edge, topstitch each row until you get to the inner edge). at this point your brim is ready to attach!! attach as usual - brim + (hat piece without brim) right side to right side together! you can baste in place before sewing at 1/4” seam allowance! then, the lining (hat without brim) piece goes in last :)

You are a gift from heaven! I enlarged a hat pattern by 10%. I was so big but I had no idea on how the original pattern was created. Thank you so much for this. Can't say mystery is gone till I draw one out but at least I know why a 1/4 extra on the circle turned into a tent vrs a hat. Love the lip gloss scene and the cat in the background. Video production is something you can add to the resume. Yes it was that good.

if it’s see through, it’s probably a little too thin! a simple cotton with no stretch would be the best option for a summer bucket hat!
