That's a great video, as always! I went to the Paul McCartney concert several months ago and needed a clear bag. I actually went with my niece and her husband who have a baby boy named LENNON (Beatles connection!), so she needed a pretty good sized bag for diapers, baby wipes, plus wallet, etc. Babies under age 2 get in free, so Lennon gets to go to lots of concerts. He wears very nice head phones to protect his ears. Anyway, I made my niece's clear bag more like a back pack but very simplified. I didn't have any vinyl on-hand, but I DID have a shower curtain liner. I've actually used those liners for many vinyl projects. They're much cheaper than buying vinyl by the yard. I think I paid about $3 or less at Walmart, and that's a HUGE sheet of vinyl. The nice thing about these bags is that they don't really have to last very long. As long as they make it through the event, I feel like I got my money's worth out of it. Heck, you could make a whole lot of tote bags out of one shower curtain liner!
Thanks for sharing. Wrinkles -- depending on the thickness of the vinyl and size of piece try: Warming with a hair dryer. I wouldn't try a heat gun. Placing it in hot water for a few moments. Iron, with a warm iron, using a dish towel as a pressing cloth. Experiment with vinyl scraps using parchment paper to protect the ironing surface and between the iron and the vinyl, when applicable. Oh... one more tip. Use a longer stitch length when sewing with vinyl. If stitches are too close together, sometimes the holes act like a paper perforated tear strip. Item will come apart along the perforated line.
Thank you, Whitney. I just for the first time used a vinyl for a bag designed to contain a sandwich (it is for my grandchildren's lunch) and I did ok, You are always an inspiration.
you can cut your straps in the middle and add like a 6" piece of padded material for a padded shoulder strap and sew them back on to each end of the vinal strap
Hey Whitney, thanks for sharing this tutorial. I've wanted more working with vinyl ideas and as usual, you delivered. I hope I have enough vinyl to make this as a tote and a matching catch-all cosmetic bag. ❤️
Well done! Concise, clear. I like this kind much better than your chattier ones. Great idea for smoothing the vinyl. Hair dyer might also work.Great gift idea.
My husband had final on the floor in his car,I put it in really hot water then flatten it out and the wrinkles came out.As always you Projects are very neat smart and cute
I once packed away my vinyl incorrectly, I used my Teflon pressing sheets with the vinyl sandwiched in the middle and pressed without resting the iron too long at any spot and it worked great. BJ
Thank you. looks pretty easy to do.....Another great tutorial.........Have you ever tried making those flip out pillow bed's for kids????? Would love to see something like that.....thanks so much Whitney.....
@@Whitney_Sews thanks so much for the quick response....I am binge watching your videos. I love them....Do you no longer have an Etsy store??? I just used the link and it wasn't there.......Sure hope you try the Pillow beds....thanks so very much...back my binge......lol....
No, I stopped selling on etsy a few years back when they started taking fees out of the shipping costs. I don't really have the time to make things to sell anyway.
Hi, what thickness do you recommend for making a flip phone case, so I can type thru the clear vinyl to the phone keyboard? not touchscreen. I need it not too thin to break it too easy and not too thick to allow to press the phone keys. Thanks in advance.
Hi Whitney, wouldn't have been okay to use like seam binding around the edge? I literally cannot see that bag at all but then I'm legally blind. It's a really cute idea. Thank you so much. I really love your videos.
