How to sew a self binding blanket | Make a snuggly blanket any size you like | SEWING TUTORIAL

This is a super easy tutorial to make a super snuggly cosy blanket as little as a dolls blanket and as large as you like!
All you need is a square or rectangle of fabric and a square or rectangle of backing fleece or Minky that is 3" larger than your fabric.

Great timing, I have had something in mind for a few days for a piece of fabric and this would make a far better (and quicker!) edging than I had planned. Talking Tripod is a love! I think she should have her own show! Also, minky...SO many comments could be made but I will be good!! 😉🤣

I have resurrected a project for this type of quilt, following a video tutorial which didn’t work and, no, I didn’t make any mistakes. So frustrated. Greta tutorial! Thank you for sharing. I just made two blankets for my grand baby that’s due soon! Followed this step by step on the first one...super easy! The only thing I changed was on the mitered corner. I stopped sewing 1/2” from the end on the part you turn under, then turned under 1/2”. Worked beautifully! Thank you, thank you! You made it fun instead of frustrating 😁

Just add 10 inches to top and sides. example 30X40 fabric add to 40X50 backing,

Wish I had seen this tutorial before I made mine for my nieces. Your first steps of using spray to adhere the materials together and quilting would have been handy steps to avoid the struggles I had had with the moving and stretching minke. Frixion pens are available in the stationary department of any supermarket. They are not designed for fabric but work due to the heat/friction

The problem that I am facing is...when I am tucking to finish - I cannot tuck the same amount in the corners. First time seeing a blanket - up to this point it’s being easy with ur detailed instructions. Wish I could attach a photo - I’m pretty proud of it!

It's actually a lot easier if you draw the line for the corners first sew it then trim the excess off. You just need to move the line to be right against the corner rather than 1/4 inch away.

Do I have this right? Various size 3 inches on all sides smaller than one piece of fabric. I am a novice can you tell.

yes what ever size backing you have the front needs to be 3" smaller all round

the binding overlaps the finished piece. so doesn't add any width

I'm not quite sure what you mean? If you want it to measure a different width on the narrow ends to the long edges then this method wont work as you can't mitre the corners
