Ikr. Way back when, everyone knew how to sew, depending on their job. If you were a sailor, you probably knew how to mend a sail if it had a tear. Men were and are tailors, they make clothes for men and women by sewing. It's a skill, and it's pretty important. It's not a 'girly' thing to sew and people should stop perpetuating that idea. It's just so stupid. 🤦

@@rob_over_9000 i think it's how back in the day girls would take home ec at school and boys would take shop class, or how 1950's magazines would show a wife sewing her husband's socks while he reads the paper. That's 2 generations ago now so it's more like a vague cultural memory more than something people will actually advocate.

Not that I'm ashamed of it, but you have to admit sewing clothes is stereotypically a female-oriented activity. You don't see a lot of women doing carpentry for the same reason. I'm proud that I know how to sew, but I won't be shocked if me getting really good at it ends up raising some eyebrows.

Also- A trick to not have to hold the spacer needle with thumb while sewing on button: secure it on the fabric under the button- just grab a little material on one side and then other making sure that the needle is showing above the fabric directly under the button.

I appreciate that you showed me how to sew on a button, but really didn't need to be convinced it's manly first. A: I was already searching for how to do it, you don't need to convince me to watch what I specifically searched for B: If someone needs to sew something and thinking it's not manly is what's stopping them, they've got some serious issues. It's just a skill to create or repair things.

This was the best tutorial I could find on this. Everyone else (the first five or so I found) skipped a step as if I knew what I was doing. Yours covered every question I had, thanks!

Great video. One little note. There is a "button thread" that is used rather than ordinary sewing thread. There are also polyester threads that are colored and colorless.
