I love Hannah's job description! She's so cute and courageous, sewing her first quilt in front of an audience, and being vulnerable to making mistakes (which happens to everyone). So darling!
Donna, I have learned so much from watching your videos. Your teaching Hanna is interesting to watch. She is an awesome addition to your business's " family" structure.
I just started closing six months ago I'm not afraid to say it I'm 56 but I have found something that can take my mind off of the day's troubles or the week's troubles whatever it maybe and really put it into this and I enjoy Donna's videos and just the way everybody's happy and I'm happy with what I'm doing even though I'm still kind of quirky on my getting my borders put on just right but watching has helped a lot so I'm getting there and I'll keep on going one foot in front of the other and the Lord of my side well thank you Donna and you have a great day and God bless you
Hi Betty, I'm so glad you've discovered the joy of quilting! I've always appreciated the way focusing on a new creation, seems to restore peace of mind. Donna
I only started quilted due to covid. I haven't had any classes. These have been like taking a beginning quilt class. Thank you for these, I'm learning a lot.
Thank you Donna and Hannah for this series! I learned so much from watching each episode and actually quilted along with you. I love the energy you both have. Please keep it up! It’s contagious. Thanks Again. SIL
I just followed Hannah step by step and made my very first quilt! I purchased the book 3 Yard Quilt Favorites and am looking forward to finishing the back of this one and doing some other designs!
I'm so enjoying Hannah make her first quilt . And I've also enjoyed reading the pattern part. It just shows how easy making quilts. Through 3 yard quilt at fabric cafe. can be 1 step at a time. Thank you Donna and Hannah.
Congratulations, Hannah, on #1. I bet there will be many more in the future. You did a great job, asked super questions, and always brought your great smile! 3 Yard Quilts are so fabulous. I have made a few, and I have a few kits lined up for the next time I am able to jump into quilt making.
I started quilting when I retired a few years ago. These 3 videos were fantastic as a refresher and even picked up a few new tips to help me improve my skills. Thank you so much!
Congratulations on your first Quilt Hannah ❤️🌹. Love your Quilt top. . Donna you are the best Teacher ever 💓❤️🌹❤️. I remember my first time making a quilt. For the first time. My Grandma tought me how to make a quilt top and then she showed me how to make a quilt right after making a quilt top. Then she showed me how to tack it and hem it all in one. She didn't measure anything. She just eye balled it. That's the way I was tought how to make Quilts. . love making quilts. I enjoy making Quilts.
Thank you. I have enjoyed watching this series. I have learned so much. Maybe after watching a few more times I will be confident enough to start my first quilt!
This was such a great series! I learned so much listening to you Donna and having you explain the printed directions as you went along. I have sewn two of your patterns and even though it is “beginner friendly”, I struggled because I am new to quilting. I would have to read the directions over and over to finally get it right. I so appreciate you taking the time to teach Hannah (and us)… she did such a great job on her first quilt. And you are a very patient and supportive teacher 😊💕💕
Awesome job Hannah, my little tip , and I am a fairly new quilter but found this very helpful, when I start to sew the blocks together , I start with a scrap of fabric to start sewing on then lead into your block… keep up the great videos Donna and Hannah.
Hannah you are doing so well. I have a little tip for you for these kind of quilts: press the same everytime to the kitty block. So the seams will nest automatically and reduces bulk at the 4 patch. 😉
These videos were fun to watch as well as helpful. Looking forward to watching Hannah make another quilt. Nice job to Hannah’s accomplishment and thank you Donna for your instructions.
Great job with your quilt top. I even picked up a few tips from the questions you asked Donna. Thank you for being brave & doing this project in front of the camera. I look forward to seeing your next project.
This was a great tutorial. Hannah, you did a great job. Donna, I have made several of your quilts, but I learned so much from this tutorial. Especially about using Best Press. Thank you
I love the fabrics you choose I'm hoping to get a new sewing machine this year n have started collecting fabric ! You made this alot easier for me to understand thank you so much!!! Looking forward to you doing stepping stones awesome job!!!
Great job Hannah! You were so right in saying that even experienced quilters sometimes need a quick and easy quilt to make due to time constraints. My question for Hannah... do you plan on quilting that adorable quilt yourself? I highly recommend it! I'm looking forward to watching you create your next quilt.
Please do more tutorials. This is so much fun. If you don’t give out actual numbers that pieces need to be cut into, lots of patterns could be demonstrated and I am betting that the pattern/ fabric kits being demonstrated would fly off the shelves. Donna is such a patient teacher.
Wow! Hannah that came out beautiful 🤩 Donna, I have a question: have you done a video on what’s next after the top is done? I’ve read something about a sandwich? top middle and back?
Hi Susan, we have another series in the works that will cover the backing, batting and Binding. Watch for it in January. Meanwhile, keep watching our videos for segments on block construction and various terminology explanations. Donna
The 9 plus one is my first quilt, I bought a yard and a half of fabrics to be 'safe' messed up my first section right away, all the strips bowed in in the middle. I have room to learn before messing up a real three yard quilt. I am scared but looking forward to having a beautiful 3 yard quilt!
Hi Sharon, we won't be showing the backing and binding on this one. But Hannah will be making another quilt after the first of the year with backing and binding added as well! Donna
Hello! Yes we are working on another series which will show the whole process, including the batting, backing and binding. That should begin in March, so stay tuned! Glad you found this series helpful and welcome to quilting!
@@FabricCafe That would be amazing. So after watching these 3 videos I cut my fabric today for the Sew Quick pattern. This will be my 2nd attempt at making a quilt. Fingers crossed
So glad I found your channel and web site. My sewing machine just arrived yesterday and at 54 years old I am going to start my journey into quilting. I have learned so much from this series already. I am curious about your ironing surface, what do you put on the table? Also...did Hannah finish the quilt, would have been fun to see how she finalized it with batting and the back. (Sorry if my terminology in not correct).
Hi Dawn, welcome to the community! So excited for you to start your quilting journey!! 😊 Hannah did finish the quilt and its one we actually use on the show from time to time. You are correct that we did not show the backing/batting, etc in this series. However, Hannah did make a second quilt series and we talk more about the finishing process. You can find the playlist to all of those videos here - ru-vid.com/group/PLGrocj6mKnJ8inJJvyKdDPLHch__rvOjv Good luck, Dawn!
For ironing surfaces you can keep it simple. You could use a matt, or traditional ironing board surface. When Hannah first started she would even press some of her seams on a towel 😅 You can also find matts that roll up so that its easy to store after you are through!
@@FabricCafe thank you. I got one of those wool mats from Amazon, I do find the steam and heat does still absorb to the table but not a big deal. Any tips on getting out stubborn fold creases on a pack of remnants?
Just watched this video! Great job. Just wondering does it matter which direction u press the seams after u sew your rows together? And what about pressing the border seams? Thanks.
Hi Barb! Fran prefers to press all of her seems open, but you can either press them open or to one side, whichever you prefer. For your borders you can also do either, however if you press to one side go ahead and press them towards the border do better distribute the bulk. We also have a couple videos that might be helpful regarding pressing, I'll list them below - Good luck! What if you want to make other sizes? I have leftover 6 inch blocks (focus) and I am trying to pair with smaller boxes (dark/light) and just halved the measurements making 3 inch blocks once I piece together the four block to pair to the 6 inch it’s not matching corner to corner like yours :/ what am I doing wrong?
Hi Mary Ann, I answer these comments at night when I'm far, far away from the iron. Wouldn't you know, I can't remember! We have several irons which we use. Chi is one brand. Panasonic is another. Donna
Hi Andrea! This first one is for me. I will be working on another one soon, though, that is for a gift! So, you'll have to stay tuned for that series! :) -Hannah
