I've been airbrushing for a few weeks now with Gunpla kits. Absolutely loving it and been learning lots. I want to attempt preshading next starting with my RG Hi Nu. Watching this helped give me a game plan on what to do. Thank you.

Got back into model building again last year. Perusing around youtube for how different people go about shading. One technique that I will be practicing with is Black Basing on gunpla. Haven't seen many examples of it on gunpla.

Nice informative video. I thought pre-shading was an umbrella term for this technique. From your video, it seems there are distinctions. Pre-shading is base coat -> highlight edges/panel lines. Highlighting is base coat -> highlight middle of sections or non-edges/non-panel lines

Very nice tutorial. Good hack the one with the masking tape.

Thank you so much! Yes, it really helps if you're heavy handed or suck at controlling the airbrush like I use to.

@@LiquidZero1 you are right. But with time and practice things improve. Have you ever tried pigment shading, using Tamiya or other pigment brands? I also used weathering pencils. It’s more time consuming than the airbrush, but could be a change from time to time.

@@natalebabbo-gunplaanddioramas I haven't but I will look into the pigments. That sounds interesting!

Can you do pre-shading with a cordless/battery airbrush?
@LiquidZero1
@LiquidZero1 2 года назад
Hey Man, probably but it would depend on the needle size. I say anything over a .35 is probably going to be difficult and you will need to have low air pressure so it doesn't overspray.

15 but I turn it down sometimes on the airbrush valve. You can try 12 it allows more control

Super beginner. I think I accidentally cover up all of my preshading. Lol
@LiquidZero1
@LiquidZero1 9 месяцев назад
Haha i use to do the same. You just do very light coats until you get the look you want. I like subtle shading now so I go pretty heavy but u can still tell it's shaded.,

Shades are created by light, if you do this kinda thing with paint then the model will look strange if the light angles hit it from the wrong angle. It's easy to see how much misinformation can start trends in any hobby.

it's funny how people who clearly has never tried to do anything mock those who are

What are you talking about? That's the whole point of the preshading technique: ti simulate light effects.
