Now that Brian has quartered and split the ash wood in the previous video it's time to rough out the shape and cut the long bow to length. Then we use a tillering stick to make sure that the long bow will bend equally on either side of the handle.
This is the second video in a series that will help explain the steps on building a longbow from ash.

Hello again Brian! How about a couple of shows on making the boots you're wearing? Also one on making a knife and the sheath? A powder horn? A sporran?

Great ideas and we’ll do them all eventually! We actually have footage already for making a knife and making a powder horn. Max just hasn’t gotten around to editing those yet. We have definitely discussed making the boots. We do have a video explaining how to do the soles for a boot. thanks!

Please tell Brian I'd like to pay him to make me a longbow, some arrows, and a quiver. He taught me how to carve and I would really love to own something he made and a bow is just something a boy can use.

Do you know what type of design is this? Like is it based on any bows that were used by a certain group of people?

Not any particular group, no.

@@StockmanOriginalyou could have gotten much heavier weight out of that stave.. flatter wider limbs. 50-60lb no problem from White Ash.

Tony, you are right, I took too much out of the limbs. To be honest ,it was my first video and I was a bit nervous.
