Details, details! "The devil in in the details," and also the angels. Thanks for being so thorough, as well as very organized in thought. Also for keeping your video set clean & dramatic. Your video leaves me with one small question. Besides, obviously, your own hard experience, did you train with someone?
@AtharJaber

Thank you David. I grew up in Florence, where some guys left some statues behind for us to learn from... Beside that, I trained at Antwerp's Royal Academy, where one teacher in specific was a great source of knowledge. His name is Frans Heirbaut. But most of what I'm sharing here comes from years of experience and lots of reading and exchanging knowledge with colleagues in the field.

When purchasing new grinding wheels for a bench grinder, which type and grit size are recommended for hardened steel and carbide chisels?

Thank you Paul! I'm working on it but it's going to take a while . Perhaps I might have to release it in small chapters as downloadable PDF files.

Wonderful! I am speechless as I also find sharpening my tools a bit cathartic to the end of using them to make something!

I've been carving stone from alabaster to granite for 10 years and just discovered I didn't know how to sharpen the point and flat chisel properly. Many thanks. Do you have any videos on sharpening toothed chisels and bushing tools?
@AtharJaber
@AtharJaber 3 года назад
Thank you, I’m glad I could help. I have a video about sharpening toothed chisels, just look for it on my channel and you will find it. I don’t have one about bushing tools. That’s actually a great idea to make one about that too. I will Put in my list of future tutorials. Thanks for the suggestion!

This was great! Thanks so much for sharing. On the diamond coated stone, do I rub oil on the surface, as in sharpening for wood carving tools?
@AtharJaber
@AtharJaber 2 года назад
No oil needed. You might use water if you want. But make sure to dry the chisel thoroughly afterwards to avoid rust formation.

Another very useful video. Thanks. I now see that I have hardened steel chisels and a hard steel rounded hammer. Is this really a problem. I am carving limestone and it hasn't really seemed to be a problem. I also have a soft steel curved flat hammer that came with the chisel set, but I prefer the rounded hammer.
@AtharJaber
@AtharJaber 3 года назад
Thank you. Hardened steel chisels and a hard steel rounded hammer are perfect for carving in limestone. Carbide chisels are only for harder marbles or granites. For limestone you seem to have the right carving set.

@AtharJaber
@AtharJaber 2 года назад
Ciao. Se ti riferisci alle pietre diamantate, consiglierei un 200 e poi 400. Se per i dischi in carborundum, io ho 200 da un lato e 600 dall'altro. Ma quest'ultimo lo uso solo per gli scalpelli in widia.
