Exact information I was hoping to find. Thanks! (BTW, also just watched your most recent video and it reminded me of a horror story I heard about a radial arm saw. You seem to still be recovering from the trauma of your power tool accident, so I won’t share any details. As an avid viewer who is always “informed and entertained“ by your productions, please don’t let the critics dampen your spirit. Best wishes for a speedy and complete healing process. You deserve it my friend...)

Dawn dishwashing liquid and water is great for cleaning router bits and saw blades. Cheap, easy, and safe. Put water in a container, a squirt of Dawn, stir. Submerge bits or blades. In a few minutes the deposits will loosen and what still remains can be removed easily with a toothbrush. Remember to remove bearings from router bits first as the Dawn will strip the lubricant from the bearing.

wrong. 10 strokes is for metric bits. Americans should take 8 or 16.

I believe the US conversion would be 12 3/8 strokes. But at least we won't have to stop every three strokes for a cup of tea.

One counterpoint to the problem of changing dimensions from sharpening is that some router bits can be used for purposes that don't need to be a specific size, like a router bit that's used to flatten slabs. I've got a good stockpile of various bits that are suitable for flattening, but not their original purpose.

What to do when you go over your bit 10 times and can see it only ground on spots of the carbide, lots of low spots the grind marks never came close to the cutting edge.

This can also reduce the size of the bit as the cutting edge retreats after numerous sharpenings.

Just an observation, every demo vid shows a chap like you in a workshop like yours with a range of beautiful tools like yours in the back ground. But my sceptical side wonders if it’s genuine or a studio set with only one wall made to look authentic. Any chance of a 360 and a sight of some of your jobs???

Maybe I missed it, but are you supposed to use the 300 followed up with the 600 or pick one of the two? Thanks.
@AverageJoeWoodworking
@AverageJoeWoodworking 5 лет назад
No, the 300 grit is for when you want a more coarse cutting surface, like on certain forstner bits. 600 grit is good for most router bits.

I totally agree, but so many times, I learned ways to get the right tool and why, from this guy. I have bought several of the stuff he recommended, and I was glad I did. I know it sometimes sucks when you feel like you are watching a freakin TV commercial, but these are all relevant tools for tools! And that's all I got to say about that. lol
