I've had my paper cutter for 15 years. It's amazing and they don't sell this kind anymore. But it's really dull now and I can't afford a new one. I couldn't find a place where they could sharpen the blade. Thank you so much for this video!! So simple and affordable. Can't wait to start scrapbooking again! Thanks Desiree!

Fantastic thank you so much for sharing this idea. I go through cutting blades once a month so this is going to help me save money and the cardstock will look more professional. ❤

Yes you can do this hack for maintenance as well to make your blades last longer. Go slowly, back and forth with the foil.

I use heavy duty foil to sharpen EVERYTHING in my house including my cricut needle but do you think I ever thought about using it for my paper cutter? Nope! 🤦🏻‍♀️ 😂 I've been fighting with this one too. I have the same one you have and I have the worst time finding blades for it. But now I will just sharpen my original one! Thanks Desiree! 💕

Can youuu literally just sharpen your cricut blade with this foil? 😭Will that work for silhouette blades too? They areee hellaaa expensive for me to afford 🥲.

I was shown how to sharpen household scissors (which seems to work pretty well), by "cutting" the edge of a drinking glass or glass jar. Several times. Basically opening and closing the scissor blades against the glass lip. Thank you for showing how to sharpen the trimmer blade, brilliant. Would this work with a paper guillotine too?
@DesireeTV

I’ve never tried it with a guillotine paper cutter but I’m guessing it will. I’ve never heard of the glass trick. 🤔😊

Apparently, replacement blades for my X-acto paper trimmer don't exist anymore, so thanks for this tip! Like so many, I never thought to apply this scissors trick to my trimmer, and wouldn't have thought of the heavy-duty foil!

Go slow, if your blade is really dull, you have to slide it very slowly. You'll probably have to do it alot for it finally sharpen. Don't rush, take your time. It works, I promise.

Awww-sommme! I thought this might work - I've been sharpening scissors like this for years - but was glad to have you kinda give me the OK to do my sliding cutter this way. I forgot about my corner rounders, so Yay! Question... I tried to punch foil with one of those paper edge trimmers? ...the one that makes the pretty cuts all down the side? ...I know that Martha Stewart makes several of them. Anyway, it just chewed up the foil and jammed the cutter, tho I was able to un-stick it with some effort and only moderately colorful language. Any thoughts on that? I mean the cutter, not my language. Thanks! Smiles from the Southern California desert, MK 😁☀️🌵

Hi! Not sure about what to do for those trimmers. I would try the foil again, just go really slowly. I don't have one so I can experiment and see. I hope that helps a little. :-)

@@DesireeTV I think it does... teo great minds on the same track can't be all bad! ...and thicker foil than I have, that's for sure! Thanks again 😁

I take the blade out, turn it 1/4" turn and reinsert so you don't dull the blade.

I have this exact board and I can't figure out for the life of me how to change the blade. I used the foil as a temporary fix. thank you so much for this but How in the HELL do you change the blades?? I can't get the blade out of the blue holder at all...
@DesireeTV
@DesireeTV 5 месяцев назад
Yes I tried too and I couldn't figure it out either. I think you have to remove the blade entirely and just buy a new one. The foil trick has been working for me for years now.

This cleans the blade, which makes it cut better, but definitely does not sharpen the blade.

Sorry to tell you that but it can't sharpen a steel blade aluminium is soft and the blades are made of hardend steel. You have to sharpen it with a harder material as the steel blade like Dimond sharpener or stone sharpeners or similar.

If I need to replace my blade, how do I remove it? I have the same cutter and I find that many have a different cutter. I just haven't figured out how to get it off the guide.
@DesireeTV
@DesireeTV 3 года назад
You have to open up the slider part. Move the little blue switch to the right and lift up the orange slider. Then pull out the blade that has the blue part on it. You will need to buy replacement blades from Fiskars. I haven't found generic replacements for it.
@meganh9203

I must be doing it wrong. It’s not cutting the foil. It’s crinkling it/tearing 😂

How do you replace the blade on this
@DesireeTV

You have to pop it out and replace the entire rotary part. The blades are expensive in my opinion, so I tried this and it worked.

About how long do you use a blade before it starts getting dull and need to be sharpened?
@DesireeTV
@DesireeTV 4 года назад
It depends on how frequently you use the trimmer and what type of papers you are cutting. I cut laminated paper and cardstock alot so my blades need replacing/sharpening more often, at least 2-3 times a year.
