Thank you so much for doing this video, I searched all over to find how to change the blade on an older paper trimmer like this. Perfect, and the sharpening is brillant!

Great Demo. Thank you. These little devices tend to produce inconsistent results, prematurely wear out the blade, and break or wear out before they really become cost effective. Having rotary blades professionally sharpened is not expensive. The results are consistent and will drastically extend the life of your blades. Thanks again for some great content.

Thanks for your comment. You might think that the sharpening stones would cause an issue but as an artist and quilt maker I have used mine for over 15 years with no issues. I have multiple blades for paper, fabric and other uses and sharpen them regularly. After sharpening I have cut the most delicate silks with clean, strait lines. I only replace my blades once every 18-24 months.

I love the Fiskars Surecut trimmer, but HATE paying for those V blades. I wish they'd make something similar for sharpening those (I know some people use sanding blocks or those nail tools with the sanding tip).

Wish I could figure out how to sharpen the trimmer blades too. So much waste.

If you have the kind with no nut, the plastic cap itself unscrews.

My paper cutter doesn't have a screw to unscrew. The blade has a plastic piece covering the blade. How do I remove it to get to my blade?

If it is a Fiskars with an orange blade guard you should be able to turn the guard and remove the blade . Look at the guard and see if it has any arrow markings. That will tell you how to turn it and get it off of the blade so that you can remove it.

Actually you can remove the rust, crumple up a piece of aluminum foil, wet the blade, then scrub the blade with the foil, until all the rust is gone, or you can soak the blade in coca cola

Brilliant. I wasn't even aware that a rotary paper trimmer existed! What model and brand is it?
@Bmascraftycorner
@Bmascraftycorner 2 года назад
It is from Fiskars. Best place to find one is on E-Bay.. What you are looking for is a rotary cutter with a standard 45mm blade. Fiskars 9860 or 9580 are both great cutters.

@@Bmascraftycorner Thanks so much for the info! I have an itty bitty cricut trimmer and I went to purchase replacement blades only to realize they discontinued the entire model and there are no compatible blades on the market. 😆 I have a collection of 45mm rotary cutters. This is an awesome discovery :)
