I TRULY do believe that what yet STILL confuses many drivers on the 18 spd transmission is that you don't need to split the gears if the load isn't that heavy! You can shift this transmission just like a regular 10 spd and you'll be just fine, the TRUCK too.😄 This transmission was solely designed for very heavy hauling. However, GREAT demonstration Sir!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👌🏾👍🏾💯

Technically you can shift it like a 9 speed, not a 10. 6th gear in a 10 speed is the high side of "lo", whereas 6th gear in a 9 speed is against the dash. 9 speed 13 speed and 18 speed are basically the same

Excellent view points captured with your cameras. A great tutorial on how to shift all eighteen gears with a heavy load. A lot of videos showing how to shift with just a regular haul and not requiring all 18 gears. Thanks for sharing!

I just into a 389 long nose Pete. Seriously you make it look so easy. I drove a automatic so long, and only drove Manuel for a year. 8 years in auto. I hope I get the hang of this truck, and don’t regret it. Lol

Awesome video with the gear-split overlay. Only thing I would add is a speed overlay with MPH and KMH. This definitely helped wrap my head around the splits; in school we only had 10s and 13s so having that side splitter was a mind twister.

There is an oil feild exemption for the oil industry in the US. Newer trucks run elogs. But because of the exemption. The driver can stop the 14 hour clock, but not drive time. Meaning you can't mess with drive time. They also have a 24 hour reset. Instead of a 34 hour reset. And if the the truck is 2000 or older. You can run paper. Oilfeild industry or not. Hours and miles don't count on paper, obviously. Depends how crazy the driver is, you know.

Hi Sean. Thank you for the comment. That is true, there definitely are a few exemptions like that.

Hi Gabriel. Where are you watching from. I have started shifting a lot of this content into Russian. Are you in Canada or the US? It is not hard to become an owner operator in Trucking. It goes something like this: -first find a company you want to work with as an owner operator. -get a contract from them. It is the same as being a company driver. -get two different quote from International and Freightliner. make sure you only buy a new truck. Do not get into it if you think of buying used. Make sure you buy it with all warranties, it will pay for itself on the long term. Trust me! -once you find a truck you like get financing for the same truck, but from different dealerships. Make sure that you mention that you are shopping for the best rate for financing. Do not cover it up, because they will all be checking your credit and they will know. Also, you do not want multiple companies checking your credit, it will hurt your score. -make sure you talk all this through with an accountant first to have a concrete plan. ****You must have a contract before buying a truck. ****The truck must be perfectly spec'd for the job you put it on. ****Only buy trucks from OEM dealerships. If you buy an International truck for example, only buy it from an International dealership, do not buy it from Arrow truck sales or Pride Truck Sales. ****You must have enough Warranties to cover you for the entire period of your truck payments. ****Once your truck is payed for, sell it. Get rid of it and buy a new truck with all the extended warranties that you can. ****Trucking companies do not pay for their trucks that much less than owner operators. As you see, they always have new trucks. There is a reason for that. Hope this helps. Let me know where you are watching from. Tell me more about your own situation.

Which gear you would you use down a hill when heavy loaded sir
@yaroslavkrymov9955
@yaroslavkrymov9955 4 года назад
Hello Jason, Can you elaborate more? Because it really depends on the speed you are going. Are we simply trying to keep the truck going downhill at a certain constant speed, or are we trying to slow down while going downhill?

i use either 5h or 6L and maybe 6H. wit jake on H.. i stay on right most lane, 6% down grade i usually go down at 30-32mph with emergency lights/flashers.. dont worry about super truckers passing you by going 55+mph, i just laught at em knowing any sec. theyll be hitting the brakes..

Hi my friend. What are your thoughts on Double shifting? Is it best to do it or not to?
@danlinus1871
@danlinus1871 5 лет назад
Yeah, those Pet's are cool, but I never liked that Clutch pedal that they have. it make me feel like my foot will slip off the pedal. Good shifting considering that you have no trailer. It's always smoother with some weight behind you! I wonder if those cabs are as strong as the ones made out of steel!
@yaroslavkrymov9955
@yaroslavkrymov9955 5 лет назад
They are definitely tricky with those pedals I agree. I hope someone can let us know why they are built this way? I do not know if the aluminium cabs are any lighter than the steel ones. They might have at some point spatially because they are so much smaller as well. I really like the new cabs in modern trucks.

Idle at round 700/800rpm and it will reve up to 2000 rpm. Depending on the gear ratio, it will do 100km/h at 1475/1500 rpm

If you are hauling very light load can you skip splitting the gears and drive it like regular 10 speed?
@97I30T
@97I30T 3 года назад
Yes you can. You do not have to split the gears.
@garydiane1577
@garydiane1577 3 года назад
Normally you don’t split on the low side. A 13 speed is the same as the 18 speed without the ability to split the low side gears.
@aliwarraich5332
@aliwarraich5332 4 года назад
so splitters has nothing to do with downshifting ?
@yaroslavkrymov9955
@yaroslavkrymov9955 4 года назад
How do you mean? You can downshift from 8 to 7 or from 8 to 7.5 (7th with split on) if you wanted to. It really depends on what you are doing. I have been in mud so slippery before that downshifting caused the wheels to lock.
@OwnerPlt
@OwnerPlt 4 года назад
@@yaroslavkrymov9955 Guess he wants to ask Not on the straight road but downhill. Depends on engine break, if necessary you should use splitting. Am i right? How does it caused the wheels to lock.(my question is.)
