I think I first learned about it after studying Steven Spielberg. I always loved how he introduces characters. Keep up the good work!

Great tutorial guys! I love how you detailed that it's not just the camera move that makes the shot. It's all those other elements in front of the camera that make it work.

thanks for the bts guys, lookin forward to seeing more motivated camera moves. does it do your back in after a couple of takes? I guess at least you didn't have to pull focus to the face ~while~ panning up. have you guys tried this with a lens with a shallow depth of field?

I imagine after shooting like that all day, you'd probably feel some ache. But the a7s is really light so it was okay. We deliberately shot at f8 so everything we were capturing would be inside the focus plane. You could do this shallow, but you might need a wireless follow focus.

Great video! Wanted him to extinguish the cigarette with his foot tho. The Michael Bay action hero entrance is the camera moves opposite of scene movement; eg, opposite to car entering the scene. I've used that move during the action to over exaggerate the motion and show disoriented characters reacting to the action. (I cringe every time someone uses a gun outside. Here, in the states, the police are usually called immediately, even if you have a permit).

We thought about having Rob stand on the cigarette but we didn't want to crush our only fake cig on the first take haha. You don't get a lot of guns in the UK, everything other than farming shotguns are illegal, or so I believe. We use finger guns until the camera rolls, and place the BB gun away as soon as we finish rolling the take. Hi-vis vests at all times. If we were filming for a full day, we have a number to call. We try to keep things as safe as possible.

Ahh yeah, sorry about that. We used the product and realised we didn't want to endorse it because it didn't work as well as expected. We thought it would be a bit pointless putting out a video where we DONT recommend something as we aren't really a review channel.

The cigarette was totally awkward and his footing did not emphasize a characteristic of heroic energy. But for the sake of it being a demonstration I’ll give it a thumbs up.
