Nice video, I’m subscribed to the website and I’ve learnt so much. My only thought with this particular setup, is the white background bleeding onto the product. I’m guessing if you raised the glass high enough that would solve this problem?

Another perfect tutorial Karl! Even though I-love-the-result using the cone, it makes the products to look like matte finished for the less reflective and semi-gloss finish for the extremely reflective objects. what can we do to introduce the true percentage of the shininess to the viewers?

Another excellent tutorial Karl. I needed to do some flat-lay images recently and came up with a great system for rigging the camera horizontally. Simply attach a Manfrotto SuperClamp directly to your tripod (no head) with a Double Female 3/8 adapter #066. Then clamp a monopod #3016 into the Super Clamp and extend it over the table. You can connect the camera directly or add a monopod head #3232. Rotate the camera in the clamp to level and extend it as needed. You can also add a sandbag if needed to the monopod to balance the camera and lens. Cheers!

@sleepgolfer77
@sleepgolfer77 Год назад
Hi, Karl! Does the background white bleed into the object photographed, considering it-s that close to the object? And how is it not reducing contrast (washing out) at that distance, while going for 255 white? It's been fun been following you for decades now, I think :-)
@estebanrestrepo9256
@estebanrestrepo9256 Год назад
with white objects it might bleed a bit more, I was wondering the same
@HenkvanMierlo
@HenkvanMierlo Год назад
My experience is that it does not so much bleed into the object, but you'll miss the natural shadow. If you like a shadow under the object, this is also not the way to do it. But it is a great technique for the necklace for instance, because that does not have any shadow on the back side. It all depends on the level of photography you're aiming at. The cone is a brilliant solution by the way.

Hello, Karl, apart from my slight criticism in my other comment ;-) another question… Does the _opacity_ of the cone material influence the effect good enough that one could dose that effect somewhat more carefully (by choosing a somewhat _less_ opaque material)? Thank you ;-)
@VisualEducationStudio
@VisualEducationStudio Год назад
Hi, the opacity will only affect the exposure or the amount of light that can get through it. The most important thing on this material and something we tested many iterations and formulas with the factory to get right is called the 'optical density' and that is how the light spreads and how smooth the gradient will be. Optical density can be affected by the type of material, the thickness of the material and of course the light scattering properties of the material. Things like opal acrylic sheets, LEE 216, LEE 400 lux etc all have excellent optical density for working with good gradient lighting which is what we had to also achieve with this material.
@anotherguycalledsmith
@anotherguycalledsmith Год назад
@@VisualEducationStudio Hi, Karl, thank you so much for your quick and friendly answer. Very German working attitude of yours, might be due to your first name… ;-) Yes, this totally makes sense to me what you are saying. It must be rather difficult to find the right density for the material. So, in might case, it might be best to jump into a huge soft box myself… just kidding ;-) I am looking forward to watching your excellent content, have a nice week!

@5:40 I do agree with you for other products, but already with the door handle the problem starts… Yes, it does look much better, BUT it is not very “honest” ;-) And with jewellery it is even worse. By looking at this shot you might assume that this piece has got a matt surface when it actually is highly polished…

-there is just one problem with the cone: Everything looks a bit frosted. Not glossy any more. The black hair dryer and makeup even more so than the silver things. Not exactly what the client wants I guess. You should demonstrate with some frosted things. I wonder if this works perfectly then.

We think $70 for the large one and is reasonable. When you consider the price of a product you have to also consider the packaging, the marketing, the development and the amount of other work to get a product to a customer. It's never as simple as it seems.

This comment is strange for its lack of accuracy and insight. Karl has been a photographer shooting for clients for nearly 30 years but as a company we've also been teaching photography through our platform for over 15 years (very successfully too). Karl with his partners V-Flat World designed the LightCone photography tool and of course is happy to help promote the product and show what it can do, it's a successful product used by tens of thousands of photographers so I'm not sure how you can 'sell out' when you are designing and selling your own product that just doesn't make any sense? I hope you can reflect on your opinions now you have more accurate insight.
