Absolutely love smaller guns. There’s a place for them in edc as far as I’m concerned. I don’t see that part of the market slowing down any time soon. Great stuff brother!
Hey brother I did not know how bad I needed this until yesterday when I shot my shield 40 for the 1st time. I also had my Glock 17 that I shoot really well. I hit low left every shot with the shield. I felt like a rookie. Might have hit the wall as well tbh. I was ashamed of my performance. I truly thoughr I would pick it up and be on point...I was not
@@theccwdad i have the p30sk, itsabout the same size as your glock and I too shoot low left. Theresvideos on YT for help with that. Type in "shooting low left". One thing that helped ALOT was learning about trigger control with my trigger finger. Isolatig the finger and making sure youre ONLY moving the trigger finger. Hope this helped.
“I’m not the best shooter in the world” as I think back to him destroying steel from 50 yards away, first time in a new pistol. Gotta appreciate his humility.
In addition to what you said about snap caps and practicing at home, it maybe worth mentioning the practice of drawing from holster (unloaded) pointing at said lightswitch and then checking sight alignment to help with muscle memory. GET SOME!!! - Jerry Miculek
I would like to thank you and your wife for doing your videos. They are very interesting, informative, down to earth, entertaining and, I feel, trustworthy as well. I know that seems like a lot of compliments, but, if the shoe fits...and it certainly appears to, wear it.☺ I am a relatively new pistol shooter and the smallest one that I have at this point is an Honor Defense, Honor Guard sub compact that is a very well thought out and reliable pistol from a company that has only been around for a few years. After I watched this video back around November, 2018, I came to appreciate the value of, in some circumstances, an even smaller pistol than the Homor Guard sub compact. And then, after watching your video on the latest iteration of the low cost, high value Taurus G2c (PT111), I began to develope an interest in seeing if there were any really good lower cost, high value small guns similar to your Glock 42 and Sig Sauer P365. I came across some fairly promising ones, but there always seemed to be something that took them out of the running as far as I was concerned in comparison to the Glock and Sig. Then I came across a few very recent reviews that seem very promising on a pistol that seemed to fit the very niche that I was looking for and might possibly Interest you for testing in the small pistol category as well. It is the Diamondback DB9 Gen. 4. It is just being released and the company had reached out to a few reviewers for their reviews on it. The company had listened to it's customers on the negatives of the previous generattion(s) and made the changes. The reviews were really good. Smaller than a Glock and no drop issues or primer striker drag issues as with the P365. I tried to buy one but no one has them yet in my area. I contacted the company and they said they were trying to get them shipped out and gave names of some distributers. But I checked and they were apparently sold out already. If you are interested in giving an early review, give Diamondback a call. They reached out to a few other reviewers, so they may be interested in getting one to you for review as well. I am thinking that this little firearm might be right up your alley for review. At any rate, thanks again to you and your wife for your videos. Fred Kumm
Thumb pressure made a difference when shooting my wife's new M&P S&W 9mm EZ. I kept going low and left till I tightened my thumb on my primary hand. All my guns fill my grip fuller (P226, RAMI, Glock, Model 41) and I was not aware that I was not squeezing the grip with my thumb! Cheers, Tony
Being 6’1 and having big ol’ mitts myself, I *do* often stay away from sub-compact sized guns, but I have a brand new production P365 (benefits of living 25 mins from Sig Headquarters) on hold that I’m definitely gonna use the tips you mentioned while shooting it. Thanks for looking out for your fellow tall shooters!
I love my pt22. I know 22lr is pretty much as small as you can go caliber wise but I can’t fit my glock in my shorts. 9rounds of 22 is better than a pocket knife and can definitely cause a break long enuf for me to run away. Plus I can go practice with 100 rounds of 22 when that costs the same as 15-20 rounds of 45. I have my 45 when I’m at home or when I’m out in the back woods.
I tried to qualify with my back up (PM9) and couldn’t believe how bad I sucked at 15 or more yards. Great video. You really should do more videos on marksmanship.
I have been taught 3 different activities I am passionate about by 3 world class teachers and let me say YOU ARE A GREAT TEACHER! I have been studying handguns and shooting technique for 2 months. I have never touched a pistol , but I am very close to buying a Langdon Beretta LLT compact . Thanks for the great instruction, it's greatly aporeciated
Thanks for the great grip description. I just bought a 365xl and the thing is a laser when fired correctly. I was pretty inconsistent because of it being a brand new gun to me, and despite the much increased capacity over my old carry (pps m1) the walther was a lot thicker front to back making it much easier to pull that trigger straight back. Also, not sure how I feel about the forward sweep on the xl. I may replace it with a flatter trigger. When I was grouping well, I was putting rounds through a hole about the size of a silver dollar at 25 feet. Not super fast but not slowly either. But when trying to shoot quite fast I was not getting that great of hits. I mean, they were all center mass for sure but nothing impressive. I realize now that I wasn't gripping nearly firm enough with my support hand and my elbows were a bit too locked out. Excited to try again when I get the courage to expell some of my precious ammo. I may get one of those houge grip fattners at some point too. They make the gun look ridiculous imo, but if it helps my grip I'm all for it. I wish a company would make something like a thicker version of talon grips. Or maybe a custom module with a bit bigger grip. I thing they would be a big hit with these bitty little guns. Anyway, I am very pleased with my new sig and anyone thinking of the 365 I highly recommend you at least handle an xl, it really is a more balanced feeling gun and points a fair bit better, despite the added length not being at all dramatic.
Chris and I think you're one of the best at explaining how to shoot excetera. Like you demonstrated small guns are much harder to control. Thanks so much for what you do again I think you're one of the best
I went shooting with my new Gx4, my first hand gun ever might I add. Anyways I had issues with a limp wrist and keeping my left hand on the gun, definitely going to the range soon and trying this out. Appreciate this info a ton!
this video had some real helpful tips in it for me, squeezing on the lower part of the grip makes a lot of sense, i think i typically squeeze harder on the top, and also harder with my strong hand vs my support hand, some stuff to try for sure I do dry fire very often, and i think that has been the biggest help in my shooting, hands down
just wanted to say, your videos stay educational! i take my CPL class tomorrow and this video is helping me a lot! i’ve been letting myself ride the recoil of the gun up instead of clamping the gun and pushin it to keep it in motion. that alone i know will help me greatly when i shoot next! i mean i’ll probably use a larger gun for the class but i wanna be able to use my carry guns better than most of my other guns, right?
Love these types of videos, as a student of Jerry Michelek I have learned these points of grip... I also use my trigger finger the same! I like small guns better than large, l'm working on that. Very good video, shooters vid!!
Just borrowed a 365 yesterday to run drills with - snappy is right! I’m keeping my Shield. I also rode the slide lock. Even when I was trying not too. Pat Mac just came to our club this year. I had no idea who he was until the event was over. Apparently he’s a bit of a celebrity. Do you really believe: “if you’re not missing you’re going to slow.”
My grip was very old fashion when i started shooting,im adjusting to a better stance and grip with dry fireing. My issue atm is my Beretta m9 i bought. I love how it shoots but with medium small hands im having a heck of a time getting a proper thumbs fowerd grip. Thank you for the lesson in this.
in these days of the NRA just trying to get everyone to own 1000 guns its great to see a channel focused on gun safety proper technique form and respect of the actual weapon itself thanks so much for all you do amazing vid :D)
This is one reason that I like my finger around the front of the trigger guard grip. It places more SKIN, and PRESSURE onto the gun. It applies a noticeably huge amount of LEVERAGE into the gun. It also puts that pressure, and leverage up closer to the muzzle, and up higher on the gun. There are still quite a few pros that use this grip, but hardly anyone teaches it, anymore. Jerry Miculek endorses it, so it can't be that wrong. It also hurts my left wrist, when I grip underneath the trigger guard. I feels like I'm having to severely force my left wrist forward. I guess the main reason that I like this grip is because it gives me so much control with my support hand, that I can pretty much relax my strong hand, and work the trigger quickly, with ease, and dexterity. I think this grip isn't taught more because new shooters will tend to apply lateral force with that finger. You do have to be conscious about not pulling left on the gun, while you're shooting(when you first start learning it). I've experimented with several different grip variations, and I don't ever plan on changing. But, to each his own...
Great video I carry a Taurus spectrum every day it is a very snappy gun. But I'm able to carry it in my pocket this has helped me shooting it tremendously. Keep the videos coming
Grip is the hardest thing for me. Being 6 foot 5, small pistols are not made for a guy like me with giant meat hooks for hands! My freaking thumb sticks out past the end of the business end of the gun.
@@JordanJimmyDavison well yeah, I carry a subcompact gun with grip extensions as my ccw. But I own a few compact pistols, and I would prefer to keep my thumb.
I just watched this. Your ability to communicate is great. Some technical and a lot practical when teaching. Great video. I love your reviews. More of your teaching videos on shooting. No one else has the balls to go out and shoot in the cold either! Iowa people are used to more seriously shitty weather. Training it is definitely cool.
When you said small gun I thought you were referring to a LCP, TCP, P-3AT, Pico, Bodyguard 380, Spectrum, or a RM380, those are small! But they are also the reason I bought a Glock 42 which is the only small gun I would even think about using in a hostage situation. VERY INFORMATIVE, THANKS............Damn! You are good!
G48 from the frozen north checking in. Thanks for the tips. Hard grip for speed. Trigger focus for accuracy and distance. I find shooting smaller hand guns makes larger ones a breeze.
Your videos are the best! I have learn the most from you. I have not seen all of your videos yet, but the ones that I have seen are outstanding. Your videos are entraining and educational. Thanks!
I tried a small 9. It jumped around where I had to keep readjusting my grip every 1 or 2 shots. Tried a small 380 and liked it much better. It's weird, I love 9mm in mid-size and large pistols. I know you can get talon grips or after market grips but I wanted something good out of the box.
Thanks for the tips on hand and finger placement as well as all the other fundamentals that you mentioned. I have forwarded the link 2 some of my family and friends who struggle, like I do, to be a better shooter. You referenced the possibility of additional tips in future videos and I went looking for them in your playlist but did not find them. Could you respond with the links to them please?
I know this was 4 years ago it it probably was the best Video for me you have done! I use the Sig for my daily carry. I don’t have big hands so the 365 is perfect for me. I’ve gotten pretty good at using it, but I believe this video and the techniques and make it even better! Off to the range.
Great video with a lot of good info on shooting sub-compact handguns. They really can magnify any deficiencies you may have in your marksmanship fundamentals. Kudos for the excellent content and presentation!
Looking forward to getting a trigger built for you! I will be building my own G45 along the same lines! The short slide of the 19 and the grip of the 17 will be a flat shooter with a good comp. Huge fan of the SWP comp myself. Keep up the great content!
Great video, one of my favorite guns to shoot is my kahr mk9. The trigger is a bit weird, but I love enveloping the gun in my hands and squeezing a few out at distance.
Keith Gemmill I find it amusing that people are still paying $600 for a pistol that hasn't been relevant since 1989. If Block dropped the price of their guns to $200, they would be bankrupt in 3 months. LMAO Americans are the dumbest consumers on the Planet. They automatically think.... The more it costs, the better it must be. Suckers........ My buddy is an FFL. He said Sig laughs about this all of the time. They won't let him lower the price of his Sigs, because they told him that that was the main reason people still want them. The price!!! They told him that it would "cheapen" their "brand". We think it's hilarious, because it's TRUE. LOL
Great video a lot of great tips the only thing I would say is the Weaver stance it’s not going anywhere because what you do on the range is one thing would you do out in the wild ass completely different you may not even be able to shoot with two hands so I would say practice all of it
