Excellent videos! My wife giggles at me because I often watch them. Being very short, I’ve decided to stop "living with" what I purchase and actually make my clothes fit me properly. I’m now tackling my first dress shirt alteration after watching this video numerous times. 👍

I successfully shortened the sleeves of my adult son's dress shirt for his sister's wedding. He has Downs syndrome and it is very difficult to find a shirt that fits. Ordered a non-returnable sale dress online. Fit perfectly other than the sleeves (full/gathered into wide button tab cuff) being a whopping 3" too long. Watched your video, grabbed my seam ripper and dove into the job. Happy to report success, and even decided to remove the buttons to slim the cuff for a better fit while they were off. Thanks so much for taking the time to produce these videos. Watching gave me confidence I could pull it off.

BRILLIANT! but am glad I use an alteration shop! I used to want to go to tailor school....but somehow struggled through making 4 spencers from Burda and Vogue. Am impressed by this video - would not be surprised if you are well-trained. Continued success!

Yes, good video. Thankyou. I'm having 3 shirts tailored. One at a mall tailor, another with a local tailor and I was thinking of just doing the third myself. The first tailor is going to cost 170AUD and frankly that's just too much to spend if I want to have a good fit going forward in the long term.

My mom always shortened my sleeves by taking the length off at the shoulder. My right arm is 1.5 inches shorter than my left. Take the length off at the shoulder and you don’t need to go through all this rigmarole. Infinitely easier.

Grandson’s dress shirt sleeves for wedding we’re too long. Very clear and instructive video!! I wondered if it were possible to shorten from the sleeve at the shoulder? Any reasons why cuff is easier to do? Thanks so much for the great video!

You make it seem to easy. You are really good at what you do, and I was wondering if you ever make your own clothes. It would be cool to see you start from a pattern and make a shirt or pair of pants. I was wondering about the water color painting behind you, are you also an artist with paints too?

I’ve altered shirts but your video helps a lot I just wish you’d pressed your shirt bfor starting ! One thing that irritate me most is not pressing the garment ! I’ve seen ladies doing sewing projects with a wrinkled mess , can’t work that way , remember learn to work smarter not harder !

Hi, this is a great video on how to make a job easier. Do you have a video on how to shorten the sleeves from the shoulder? My husband is short and I need to shorten a lot from the shoulder. He has a lot of shirts to shorten, so I can't send to a tailor. Thanks.

I do my long sleeves that are too long in a much simpler unprofessional way. I just cut the sleeve off say close to the elbow and then I cut out say 2 inches off the sleeve that I cut off and sew it back on the way one may do with hemming pants. It works for me and its just to be comfortable as I hate when the long sleeve almost covers my thumb while everything else fits perfect or close to perfect

Louis, would it be possible to shoot an addendum video to this one? One that addresses making the cuff fit properly? I’ve now, in the past month, altered 6-7 of my dress shirt sleeves, thanks to your video. But... I have a difficult time with getting the sleeve to fit into the cuff and lay properly, as I’m having to take 4" off most of them. Of course, the baggier the shirt, the more difficulties it presents. I’m considering removing the cuffs and narrowing the sleeves, but not sure if that’s the way to go. The pleats tend to make it look like the dreaded "puffy shirt". Any help would be appreciated. I am curious. What would be the problems encountered in shortening the sleeves on that shirt by working on the shoulder area to by pass working on the cuff and buttons?

Hi .. love your videos, which I find bot inspirational and very instructive. As for the shortening of sleeves then there surely must be a limit. At some point the placket will end up on the elbow area, so for cases where significant shortening is required, how would you balance just moving the cuffs and moving the placket?

No this isn’t the best way you’ll run into issues where the opening to the cuff is and all the interfacing. Take up the difference at the shoulder
