Today we check out how to shred on a 7 string guitar! We are looking at how to compose modern metal riffs and licks and how to take advantage of the low tuning and additional string. Make sure to download all the files for this lesson on patreon.com/bernth :)
Love the lessons dude! Keep em coming, im an experienced 6 string user but just ordered my first 7 string. Cant wait til it gets delivered so i can watch this video repeatedly and give me inspiration and a basis to get started with without getting stuck on power chords
Great video as always from you I'm a bass player who doubles on guitar and I have two seven strings a Jackson custom shop Broderick and an Ibanez prestige upper cut Two other things that you may want to show people on a seven string One is tuning down to drop a or in your case drop B with the monster power cords that you can get Second that when you shift you can cover three octaves on the neck within seven frets which is very cool 7 strings get a bad rap and they shouldn't Keep the lessons coming please
Hell yeah man! I would love to see more stuff like this and I'm glad you kept the factory RGD tuning! So many djent bands have open tunings or something different. You made it sound sick and definitely more interesting. Nailed it. Thanks again. 🤘🏼😃
Bro every time I think I'm gonna be alone on something, I find your videos. I just bought a schecter 7 string and I'm nervous to learn it but not anymore thank to you
This is what I wanted to learn, 8 string on the way and ditching that flabby F# switching for a high A... So my lowest will be B (or C or maybe A... but the 7th). I want to orchestrate so that it blends and enhances what can be accomplished by a 6 string rather than sit on the lower string (might on occasion but not as a general rule) Excellent stuff!!
Your lesson is super organized and well instructed. Great licks, backing tracks, and tabs. I just bought an Ibanez axion 7 string in black aurora burst. Going to practice many of your licks! Great work man!
About to buy a 7 string cause I wanna learn some whitechapel and some other similar bands. Mainly listened to a lot of death metal then I got into white chapel oceano as blood runs black acacia strain. Etc. So yeah this gonna be fun having an extra crunchy string lol was playing in drop a on my 6 string schecter. That shit's lit.
i order a jackson JS22 -7 string for $158!! in AMAZON , be getting it in a couple of weeks because i live in PR but found your channel so you just got a new sub like the way you teach
Great job man, began playing my 7 string again because of this video. Looking forward to your next! Much love from Canada Bro! Always found my Dean 7 string had a "muddy" sound, but perhaps some new strings and maybe a pick-up upgrade may help out lol
I tune my 7 to GDADGBE. Drop tune the E then drop the B in relation to that. No idea if it makes sense of if anyone else here has tried it but it can give some really cool riffs and range, especially if you are super average at guitar and need to sound different because you will never sound better.....
(Commenting from NOT my profile lol) that’d be a double drop tuning, drop G would be GDGFCAD, I’ve always wondered how the double drop tuning would sound. I’ve heard it done on 9 strings before & it was sick, makes it able to play normal drop D riffs then go down the even lower power chords and chugs. Sounds pretty sweet, I want to try it sometime. Except probably lower since my band tunes to 6 string drop C, maybe I could finally incorporate the 7th string into their songs like that lol (they want to be “mainstream” sounding. Why, I have no idea haha they think mainstream = success while in reality, individualism = success. Mainstream = light & not so heavy, but they’re all VATSLY different nobody gain fame from sounding like everyone else. Personally, I play heavy as hell & plan on going to 8 strings soon. Soon as I can afford a Strandberg haha
I had a prestige rg1527 about 10 years ago .unfortunately I had to get rid of it and ever since I missed playing 7 strings. Recently got an ltd h1007 and now I'm shredding again!
Can You Do 9 String next time? Thanks, EDIT: I’m Planning to get a Custom 9 String Guitar Soon! And I Don’t wan’t to put The Extra Low B F# and C# Strings to waste!
Bernth.... Please help ! Ever since I started playing my tuning was 1/2 step down and currently I'm a whole step low on my 7 string . That is because the first song I learned was Don't Cry. My big question is this. I learned my note names by standard tuning so now that my ear is developing it's confusing. What on earth should I do??? I know when I play a E it's actually a D but I really need some advice on this. Most tab says music is a half (or whole) step lower than written, so even the notation is standard. Anyone that can advise please do.
I think I'm going to use the 7 in more of a percussion role using simple barr chords rather than for arpeggios. Chords look to be a real pain on a 7 in standard and not much better in drop A.
Awesome I really like ur approach 2 teaching, subbed! Are you polish by chance? You sound like marbozir, another you tuber who does civ 6 vids. XD thanks again! I would love more 7 st vids :)
Bernth, when I tune down my 7 string it tends to not want to stay in tune after I play a few riffs and phrases. Any tips on how to keep a low tuned guitar in tune longer?
They're basically chords that are just played one note at a time. They're layed out in different shapes on guitar so you can play them in multiple octaves all over the neck. I recommend the caged system.
