thank you! This is the best explanation I have seen yet for the top corners being hard to shrink, and what it means when your lines go horizontal. This will help me a lot! P.S. Would love to see you do a newer Bug back window with explanation on the corners and how you know which way to pull the film.

@@KiiiNG_ABE I used new tint not the same and it somehow looked okay-ish so I kept it. The problem what they don't explain us is the fact that wrinkles that are horizontal on the left and right sides can't be corrected. Not even with a heat gun. So whenever you guys start shrinking make sure there are no horizontal wrinkles going to the left or right side make sure you have as much as wrinkles vertical, hence the H method

My fifth time and lots of wasted film but today i managed except for two huge creases that occured on the left and right edges. I have discovered its easier to swipe the fingers diagonally as you shrink rather than straight down or up. Though i think part of the problem is using a low power hear gun like my 300 watts heat gun.

What's an acceptable amount of flaws in the film once fitted?? I paid to attend a tinting course a few years ago but got disheartened and gave up as I felt I couldn't charge my customers if i wasnt happy with the end result. Your videos are great, very clear instructions etc and you make it look so easy. Am I being too hard on myself?? I'd get small creases and tiny dust particles once I'd finished.
@noahshepard7923
@noahshepard7923 2 года назад
If it's done right you should have absolutely no creases and no Dirt. I've been working at dealerships doing tint & PPF for 6 years now and even the slightest flaws are not passable and will usually result in the customer bringing the car back and complaining if you try to send it out. Especially on high end cars. It's best to just do it right the first time, even if that means redoing it multiple times until you get it right. Don't get discouraged, just keep practicing. Like any other trade/hobby, you'll get better with time.

what kind of prep work goes into the back window before you laid the tint down?
@kansascountry970
@kansascountry970 5 лет назад
I’m assuming good quality tint shrinks better than cheap tint? I’ve been working on my cheap beater car for the last few days off and on using Walmart tint. I had a hell of a time getting the back window shrunk. It seemed like it was either too hot and melted the tint, or If I did less heat, it wouldn’t shrink enough and would crease the film when I carded it down. I will say diy window tinting is a pain because we don’t have access to the good films that the professionals use, at least as far as I’ve found.

I'm wondering how cost effective this will be to attempt myself - buying a 36 X 50 roll of ceramic or carbon tint plus a few tools to get the job done as compared to just having a good tint guy come out and do the job in my garage. I'm rebuilding/restoring a 99 Oldsmobile Cutlass and the reason I want the expensive film is to help preserve the original interior. The vehicle was in pretty good shape to begin with or I would have never bothered - the idea being that it was one of GMs best platforms and a nice vehicle to drop a few bucks on and drive it for another 250K as apposed to buying a new piece of crap and being stuck with car payments.

When I shrink I get huge fingers like the side windows. It doesn’t stay bunched you like yours. Wonder why that is. I’m using Suntek and Solar fX film. Also when I go to Install. It get stuck. I use a ton of skip and same ratio as my side windows and as soon as I stick the back window. It is jammed almost. Is there a trick to get it to slide down as a whole and not get stuck. Again Om using way more skip than I should be and I’m growing frustrated having to do redo and waist that much film when I crease it cause it gets stuck.

Do you just run your felt card over the tint when shrinking or do you apply pressure while smoothing it out? After watching your videos I attempted my first rear window (2013 Hyundai Accent) and it came out pretty good considering it was my first attempt but I felt like I was doing something wrong because I had to apply a ton of pressure in order to get the tint flat and smooth while shrinking.

@DetroitTintStudio
@DetroitTintStudio 5 лет назад
It doesn't make sense to shrink sideways on a standard back window. they are usually wider so you are creating problems for yourself by doing it that way. take the 60" roll, unroll it normally and use the extra film for some door windows. otherwise you are just throwing film away anyways.

I know this is a old video, I tried using glass aid for windshield visors and if you get it wet it’s going to move. I thought it was going to be awesome and worth it and to be honest I don’t care to use it. I did see someone use a button though and I have to be honest I really like using a button over glass aid. It achieves the same thing only you don’t have the time it takes to put the glass aid on. I think it’s prob just a preference thing maybe or maybe because I’m new to the industry and just suck haha.

I always have problems that when hitting the bottom of the rear window tint with heat.... the fingers moves horizontally and then starts moving upwards towards the middle and I always feel like I'm always going backwards and creating more work instead of moving forwards and removing the fingers as such..... 🤷‍♂️
