If your server is private for just you and your friends, you dont need to have the signatures, in the server.cfg if you disabled verify signatures, and battleye, the server wont give you any issues about whatever mod you use.

I was trying to make a faction mod using RHSUSAF. Every time i tried to pack the PBO, it would fail (Build failed code=1). I was trying to pack trough the method of your old tutorial video, the outdated one. Maybe that was the problem, so i'm trying again with this new tutorial. If it does'nt work, do you have any clue of why i'm having this issue?

Issue could be config related with binerization, or how the configs were packed cant say. For the Build failed code=1 error see this thread, if you can understand what hes saying there, the last post on the thread explains why the error occurs forums.bohemia.net/forums/topic/172200-addon-builder-build-failed-result-code1/ There may be other threads that discuss that error code, i got it once a while back with addon builder, thats why i use only this method i demonstrate in the video, but thats just for signing, you dont need addon builder anyways as thats only pbo'ing your addon, you can easily do that with pbomanager. As for signing if it dont work, post whatever error you do get, i'll see if i can figure out what it is, and get back to you on it, but lets hope it works :)

hey gunther, have u ever had the issue where the signature check of the pbo shows hash of pbo not loaded? I have no idea why it would be failing to sign/process the file. any ideas?

Hi, sorry never had the issue. It could be because theres a problem with the config of the addon or mod, or file structure, check how you have the files packed, just be sure everything is in order, about all i can tell you.

Would signing your own key to an unsigned mod for the workshop and placing the custom signed key on a dedicated server allow people using the workshop version of the mod onto the server (assuming server checks signatures)?

Yes, but the people that get the mod will need the mod that has the new bisigns for that to work. So when you sign a mod with your private key, the pbo's in the addons folder will get bisigns with the same name as those pbo's. Then at the same time a bikey will be created, so you take the bikey and put it in your server's keys folder. Yes it should work again provided the would be player joining the server has the updated, newly signed mod with the new bisigns. Bikey for the server only, privatekey dont get distributed thats for the mod author only. But test it out, setup a server you can join with your mod with verify signatures on and if you can join then it works. Be sure before closing down the dsutils that you do the last part where you check for the integrity of the signatures to make sure there are no errors.

@@Otiss127 Thats great very happy my work helped! i spent alot of time, testing, and research on making sure i was demonstrating it properly in the most simplest way, hope it wasn't to slow as some have mentioned to me my tutorials are slow like. Reason for that is with information like this is you need to be methodical, accurate, detailed, simple yet at a pace people new to the subject can follow, so its meant for beginners to the subject even if you are a veteran to the game, but still dont know how to do what the video is demonstrating, it still needs to be slow, simple and methodical and to the point or the information wont be understood. Alot of tutorials depending on the subject fool around and dont consider the people watching, they either are to fast, fool around with various folders and files no one is familiar with, talk about things other then the subject like why they havent posted in a while, or what have you, the music is to loud and they dont keep it simple and get to the point, they waste people's time, and then when people have questions they hardly answer or dont answer them in the comments. I dont like to compare but look at the other videos with the same subject. Cheers!

After you create a bikey and bisign do you have to rebuild the pbo and sign it with the sign addon selected in addon builder? I am having an issue with my dedicated signature still not working with the bisigns made and the bikey in keys folder.

No, if your addons are already pbo'd then just sign them with DSUtils, i dont ever use addon builder, i use pbomanager to pbo my addons, after i pbo them then i sign them with DSutils, all you need.

Should the bikey also be distributed in a keys folder within the mod folder? Many mods I've downloaded have that.

Yes, just the bikey not the private key as that is your key to sign mods with. If in a zip and the mod is a manual download then a modder could put the keys folder outside the mod folder (@modname) too this way when the zip is extracted the keys folder will be amongst the mod too, but ya inside the mod folder not the addons folder of the mod.

When I clicked OK on the addon folder when adding the source directory, I got "No valid file found in: C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\1st Ranger Battalion (Mod folder)\addon (With config and mod.cpp in it)" No idea what to do... Could you help me?

Its possible that your mod's config is not in the correct format, or missing something, cant say, the program for signing like the addon publisher checks the format to be sure it is correct so my guess is theres something wrong with it, idk. My suggestion would be to go to the BI Arma3 forum section here forums.bohemia.net/forums/forum/162-arma-3-addons-configs-scripting/ Start a new thread and ask to have someone look at your configs for your mod to see if they are correct, and in the right format. As a title, then explain what your trying to do and show the error your getting, details on such issues make a difference if your thread gets looked at and responed to vs one that just says i cant sign my mod or something vague. Another option is you can go to my compilation list which is a pinned thread in that section of the forums, the thread is called: Arma3 Modding Guides & Tutorials Compilation forums.bohemia.net/forums/topic/229179-arma3-modding-guides-tutorials-compilation/ And see if there are any guides, tutorials on configs, as you could use one to compare notes, there are also tools at the bottom of the thread that could possibly check your configs to be sure they are correct and or in the proper format. Thanks for responding from my previous comment. I have followed steps as shown here. and even verify the folder but still doesnt work. server saying I do not have the same key as the server. could packing into pbo process have something to do with it? maybe i should repack it inot pbo again and then sign? or the process of packing it inot pbo doesnt have anything to do with signing the mod? another option is to just turn off the verify sign but im not sure what would be the risk if if do that to the server?

Welcome. I would do a couple of things in this situation, suggest repacking the mod using pbomanager, or use pboproject seen here mikero.bytex.digital/Downloads these are the best tools, though i've always used pbomanager and never had issues. The other thing is as you suggested is to turn off verify signatures on the server, thats what i do on my rented server but then my server is private for myself and friends. Outside that repack the pbo, then verify in Dsutils that it dont have any errors, be sure to delete the previous key on the server and put a new one in the keys folder, also same with bsigns. Both you and the server require the mod to have the same pbo's and bisgns, if you have that then idk what else the issue could be.

@@Gunter_Severloh ive been using pbomanager ,basically right clicking the @modfolder the selecting pack to pbo. I find signing the pbo hit and miss with server sometimes having no issues with the keys but sometimes one or two of the pbo files inside the @modfolder will have issues with server saying the key is not supported by server. It is weird because everyother pbos in that same @modfolder which have the same bisign and keys didnt have issue with the keys while these two had their issues.

Just would like to give update here and hopefully helps others who may have same problem. Heres what worked for me. Unpack and repack the files using the tools "addons" instead of right clicking the file and choosing pack to pbo. Then follow the usual process of signing the files.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but thank you for the tutorial. However I do have one question: I'm trying to add my mod to a server, but I fail to login, because the mod lacks a key, despite having the bisign. When checking inside the Keys folder within the server, I noticed every mod had a "bikey" while mine had a "bisign" and thus, didn't work. Should I copy the 'public' "bikey" from the DSUtils folder into my mod folder? Or did I miss a step?

Your welcome, never late. Yes once a mod is signed inside the addons folder will be bisgns that are named according to the pbos in the folder. Outside that folder (not in the mod folder) should be a keys folder with a bikey inside it. Once your mod is signed then you'll want to take the bikey file not the private key, but the bikey and put it into the keys folder on your server. So yes take the bikey out of the dsutils folder and move it to the keys folder on your server. Another option to the server is if its a private server for you and your friends only, then just pw the server disable verify signatures, and battleye and you wont have to worry about bikeys or anything being signed. Thanks for the quick answer! After trying this out (while realizing that the mod broke while I was tweaking it, oops) and trying to log in the server with the mod in my launcher and on the server up to date and with the bikey in a specific folder insided said mod, I still couldn't log in with the same issue, "[modname].pbo files are not signed by a key accepted by this server." When installing the mod from the workshop on the server, it automatically placed the bikey in the server's keys folders, and the one I have on my computer, the one from the mod I've gotten from the workshop were I any other player, is the same. But I still get kicked out. If you wish, I can give you the link to both mods, or only one if you'd like to see if I haven't done anything wrong when packing the mod?

@@maitrecrabe1996 Welcome, ya just make sure the bikey is not in the mod folder itself, just in the keys folder on the server, as only the server needs the keys folder. The bigsigns will be in the addons folder of the mod. Ya you can link it for download, i'll take a look at it, but not today, i have but a couple hours left to my day here before i have to leave for work and currently im editing a video for saturday, so saturday morning when i get home from work, i'll take a look at your mod. But a quick run down, with a mod it should be a folder with a config.cpp and or hpp inside, and then when you pack the mod basically use pbomanager or another tool to pbo it. I wouldn't use anything else to pbo the mod.

Hi, sorry for the late reply my job has be bogged down with overtime, anyways you'll need to open your config and look under the cfg patches where you named the addon, and look at any code that is possible missing something, or incorrect.

Yes, the .bikey is what you want, the .biprivatekey is your private key that you use to sign your addon or mod and that you dont want to distribute with your mod just the .bikey

@@0DanypT0 What you can try is create a new privatekey, delete the other one, then make sure all the boxes on the right are not checked that is verify sigs, v2 etc..

I know this is really late but just wanted to post here for everyone’s awareness. DO NOT use a third party .PBO packing program to generate your PBOs. Use the addon builder in the Arma3 Tools to generate your PBOs. You could follow these steps exactly to sign your mods and generate a key and DSUtils will tell you the signing is correct. However if you used a third party program like PBOManager to generate your PBOs the signature validation on servers with it enabled will fail. I believe using third party PBO packers causes the sign files to become corrupted and not work on servers with signature checking enabled.

So it has been a while since I have done this but for some odd reason...when I verify signature it just fails! All the folder destinations are good to go but can't even verify signatures. This isn't really a hard process at all. Has there been an issue with mods being packed with PBO Manager lately or something? I even tried the native Addon Builder and I can't even create a key with the PBO made from that...

Might be an issue with your mod, as i had no issues with it, and i use pbo manager all the time. So no errors come up when you try to sign, or nothing happens?

@@Gunter_Severloh It gets signed and everything. I get the bisign files. Once I verify signatures, it says they aren't signed (even though I just signed them and I see it in the folder)...I guess I will start from scratch. Do you think signing two files may be the issue? I created two factions (one BLU and on OPF). I have them as two separate pbo's. Not sure if I can combine them to one or not.

@@mbrad9379 Your welcome, about all i can think of and this is what i'd do if i were to create a campaign, is to subscribe to one and then extract the campaign and see how its put together. At least then you would have a working example, i would suggest subbing to a campaign that requires no mods.

For mods create a keys folder inside the @mod folder and put the bikey in there, as you know there will be the addons folder there too. Only bisigns go into the addons folder with signed pbo's and the bikey goes into a key or keys folder, ideally keys folder. For a server owner/renter only the server admin, or host needs the bikey on their server, it needs to be on the server not in any folder other then the keys folder. The player connecting or joining the server only needs the mod that the mission requires thats on the server, the mod should have the bisigns in the addons folder. When the player joins, the server checks the server's mod against the connecting player's mod through the bisigns, this only happens if the server owner has verify signatures aka V2 set on the server. If the bisgns in the mod are not valid or up to par with the bikey of the server, then the player will get a mismatch error and denied entry to the server. As more specific to your question, you can also link the bikey for download separate from the mod and state attention server admins/owners here is the bikey for the mod for your server, something like that, but either way only the server admin needs the bikey. That depends if its for public or private play, if for public then probably you should, if its private like for yourself or you and our friends then its not needed. An example as i rent a server for me and my buddy, i have the server set with a password so its a private server, so i have verify signatures and the BE disabled in the server.cfg.

Hello, does the mod have more then 3 pbos, i mean is it just 3 specific pbos or thats all the pbos in the mod? Also what type of mod is it, what does it do? Have you tested the mod on a server already before trying to sign it, and does it function?

Checking the signature does just that, checks or scans the bisigns to see if everything is ok, you should have a pbo and bisign already before you click the check signatures. Make sure you have a private key first before anything, once you have that and your source directory setup then click on the process files button, thats what signs the pbo or mod you have. Hi, if the pbo is a mod then you have to setup a mod folder format for the game to recognize the contents of the pbo. How you do this is the following: 1. Create a folder and name it with @ and after the @ the name of your mod, so say your mod's name is guns, the folder name would be like this @Guns 2. Inside the @Guns folder create another folder and name it addons DO NOT MISSPELL THIS FOLDER or the game wont read the mod. again name the folder ----> addons 3. Move the pbo into the addons folder, remember the addons folder is inside the @Guns or whatever your mod's name is. 4. After you have done the previous steps then move your mod to the Arma3 directory found here C:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Arma 3 5. Start the game, and add the mod through the local on the arma3 launcher, once you see your mod in the list under mods tab, then start the game and look for what your mod does or adds. I hope that what your asking about is for a mod but thats how mods work. Hope that helps, any other questions please ask and i will answer as soon as i can. Cheers!

Your using this by Jarrad? steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=899977490 What error are you getting? Is the server private, or public, just you, or you and friends? If you and friends heres what i suggest, lock the server, turn off BE and verify signatures, and you wont have issues.

@@Murdo132 Welcome, if you need help with advice or info about server setup, i been renting Arma servers since 2006, i've had arma1, arma2, arma2oa, and 4 servers for arma3. If your server control panel has access to steam you can get mods on the server that way, your server should have a file manager, the other method is to upload via FTP. Send me a friend invite if you want, my name is same on steam, and i can walk you through some things if you want. But ya lock the server, turn off BE, and verify sigs which is all done in the server.cfg and you can get on the server and wont get any errors ect,. I used to do this when i ran a realism unit back in the day and was just playing with friends myself so it does work. Cheers!

@@Gunter_Severloh Is there any solution for this outside of running the server with signature verification turned off? I'm attempting to sign another one of Jarrad's mods (marsoc), as well as a couple of others, and I'm running into the same issue.

@@smallenyt Why not ask jarrad if he can sign his mod, other then that what error are you getting, is it on the server as ingame or are you seeing it in the rpt? If your running a mod for just you and some friends, what i always did in the past was to just turn off BE, and verify signatures, and just have the server locked with a password only they know, i never had an issue with that. would also suggest turning logs off, all this is done through the server.cfg

Do you have the mod in a mod format with the @mod folder, with addons folder inside and then your pbo files inside that, or where are you at with it?

Dont matter, the bikey goes into the keys folder, so for a server the admin or whom ever is running the server needs to physically move the bikey to the keys folder on the server itself, whether its rented or a dedicated.

@@RoqueTHEGAMER You can do that, but overall the bikey needs to be in the keys folder and the server admin will need to locate it and put it in the keys folder on the server. For a mod in general you can have a keys folder inside the mod folder along side the addons folder to at least keep it contained, but then on your mod page make a note to those whom do run or have a server to let them know the bikey is in a keys folder. Another way is to just put it into the addons folder, but bikey itself dont do nothing, it only works on the server in relation to the mod's bisigns. ================= Heres some information how the addon building process with Bikey Stages to create sign an addon are: Addon maker or server admin creates their own bikey using arma3 tools. This creates 2 files: - Private key - Public key (Bikey) The addon maker then signs all of his addon pbo's with his private key. This creates a bisign for each addon.pbo The server admin then hosts the public bikey in the root arma3 servers keys folder. When a client connects, the bikey and the bisigns do some magic chit chat to one another and the bikey verifies the bisign is good and therefore allows the addon, hence the client connects. You don't have to run with the original bikey/bisigns that the addon came with, you can delete them and resign all of your addons with your own key.

Once you sign your addon or addons however many you have selected then a bikey will be created. Once a bikey is created then you wont need to do it again unless you have a new mod. At first you will create a private key this is not a bikey it is a private key that will allow you to sign your addons to begin with, after you have signed your addons as above then a bikey will be created. You only need to put the bikey on your server and not your private key.

@@officialro8605 No, you'll need to install the tools through steam, idk of any other way. Just add the @ sign in the mod names title if it dont have one, mod names dont matter, as long as the structure of the mod which is the mod name with @ and the addons folder inside the pbo's and bisgns are intact.

When i try to create a key i get the Error: Could not find part of the Path F\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 3 Tools\DSSignFile. I did it exactly as you did in your Video.

Is this the exact path you had in the search box? F\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 3 Tools\DSSignFile because that wont work unless thats just the error path. What i suggest is to physically locate that folder outside the search box and then copy the address line of the folder, the address line for me is H:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Arma 3 Tools\DSSignFile should be exactly the same exact the difference in drive letter.

@@Gunter_Severloh Sorry i didn't answered. The solution is quit simple but not straight forwoard you have to delete all contens of: C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA . It took me about two hours until i stumbled across this in the wiki, it was soposed to fix another issue but fixed mine too. community.bistudio.com/wiki/DSUtils

I need more details as to what your trying to add, as the addon has to be in the correct format for dsutils to add it. If it is then all you need to do is browse for the file, use my example as i did in the video, compare notes.

My suggestion is to create a new folder on your desktop, put your mod in there and then browse your desktop for that folder, what i did in the video.

@@jessicagray8852 😁ya i been in Illinois since i was 6 so, i have acquired the "language" if you will, i had a slight Canadian accent when i was in Canada and i somewhat get it back when i was up there visiting my grandparents but, ya i mainly have been in Illinois here all my life. Whats funny is being that my grandparents are Dutch and speak the language, they never did, nor to each other, they did have an accent though. My Grandma is still alive, shes 93, just spoke with her this past weekend actually.

Jesus christ.... Ok, just so you dont have to dig in the trash: Use DSUtil to create a new private key, name it exactly as your mod for conveniance. DONT CREATE IT IN THE INSTALL FOLDER!!! If you do you will lose it in case steam does delete that folder. Create it somewhere where you 1) know where it is 2) the directory is under YOUR control and 3) where you can easily back it up (like your onedrives tresor for example, store it as secure as you would store your password or the key to your house). Now, open Addon Packer, select the private key in options and pack your addon to your built addon folder as desitnation (ie. /build/@myaddon/addons). PBOs belong to /addons!!! Now, open DSUtils again, add the addons folder as source and let it sign it, you can leave overwrite enabled as it does sign the same keys as addon packer, why you do this is to create the .bikey (the server key that belongs into /build/@myaddon/keys). This file will be right next to your private key file so copy it into your built addon folders "keys" subdirectory. GL hf

@@Gunter_Severloh no tutorial was fine, the whole process is just unecessarily bad. Why do they add a addon builder when it does not build the addon and you have to create the folder structure yourself. I am a software engineer and the whole process of getting my mod signed was just unecessarily complicated with no substantial information anywhere. Doing some sqf is fine, signing a mod is hell. Try to google for arma 3 sign addon keys, all info is for signing pbos not for creating bikey. Most advise you to copy some exe around (lol wtf). Its just that bi never cared to write up a proper documentation for their stuff. Try finding out what resolution or proportion the flag markers have, gl hf you will have to extract whole arma 3 and look at the file -they could just have written that in the doc.

@@Donnirononon You make it sound more complicated then what it is, it really only comes down to 2 steps, create a private key, locate your mod to be signed and sign it. The mod should already be pob'd and you can use pbomanager for that. I have the same tutorial i did earlier using the addon builder which to me is not very efficient, i found it more complicated and a headache to work with because if you dont have things exact it wont work, and that depends on your mod too. Overall it depends on what you want to do, but my tutorial here im slow and deliberate because its for those who are new to the whole subject, idk what the dislikes are for imo there isn't any other tutorial that is slow and deliberate that shows you step by step and explains certain things, some tutorials have their files in areas where the viewer has no idea where the guy is, or the guy is umm, ahh hmm, ok ... is either slow as hell, or doesn't have an outline of what they are saying or a process, and is all over the place or to fast. Maybe folks dont like the music wtf do i know, simple shit people can dislike but oversee what it takes to create a tutorial like this, i spent little less then a week on this, research and info to make sure i covered everything, then time to record, using a mod, layout and structure, demonstrating a working process, editing the video, among other things. Unless you record vids and tutorials yourself then most folks have no idea what is involved on creating content, it takes a tremendous amount of work, a know how of something, a decent editor and a creative ability which is grows over time. Aside that, i agree with you i think BI could have simple tutorials on how to use their tools, and do things, but i guess thats where the community comes in depending on the subject.

@@Gunter_Severloh I know how much time it takes, i am active in the Squad community and pretty much wasted 6+ hours on developing tools for it every day last year. But i dont know how it can be that it takes hours to find a tutorial like yours to explain the simple things. You tutorial actually revealed things that where not documented anyhwere and that is just a big f u for modders and creators. Arma is awesome, one of its kind but it lives from it's documentation, all software that is intended for devs lives by its documentation really and that is why i dont get why BI documentation is done so lazy. But anyways, thanks for this video :)

@@Diced420 I subbed to your mod, looked at the addons folder, you cant have names in caps, same as pbo extension. What i did is i corrected your files, and then signed the mod for you, it also created a bikey which you need for MP, there is however one problem file which you need to look at its the weapons.pbo file, i opened it and the config.bin and i believe you should be using A3_data or Ca not ca itself which is from arma2 file structure, thats why it wont sign. The rest of the files signed np. So download the fixed version, and take that weapons.pbo file out and look at the config on it, something wrong with it.
