Love your use of the word indicate across all your tutorials because that is how I desire to paint. Not realistically but just to “indicate” the object or idea.

@@AndrewPittArtist Thank you - I am making progress . . . however . . . as I work across the sheet of paper (left to right), I find that the area at the bottom of my work on the left has dried by the time I finish the far right of the sheet. As a result, the colours do not blend top to bottom as I would like. Working on two things now: speed and more water in the mix (but then - dry brush is impossible). Loving the challenge!

Thank you, I will be watching this over and over. I can apply this to my life drawing sessions -- the same principles apply. I was so worried at the end when you adjusted the tones . . . but of course, with your skill and experience, it all worked out well. I like very much the way you talk the viewer though -- the colours you are mixing, your approach, what you are looking to achieve, the manner in which you go about laying down the pigment (I am new to watercolour!) and particularly all you have to say about assessing the subject. What a nice demonstration. I've been trying to get a decent painting out in woods for years. Most of my woods paintings get too busy. I like being out, painting is something to do while I'm there. I like streams too, they seem a bit easier. I'll look through your demos for a stream. Cheers.

Hello from Winnipeg in Canada 🇨🇦. Andrew, thanks for another great demonstration. I was hoping to paint a forest scene, as we have plenty of Boreal forests in Canada. I was unsure about painting a forest, because of the complexity. This demonstration is a big help. By the way, I have the exact same easel. My father bought the same Winsor and Newton easel in Montreal in the 1960’s and I am using it for watercolour painting. The easel is practically new, and it saved me from having to buy a new one.

This one turned out very "Sargently"! The blue on the left with the gold on the right of the trunk, and the darker green in the background. And, great dry-brush in the foreground. I must remember to squint more than I do for values and less detail observation. Thanks, Andrew!

Beautiful Andrew! I was just painting a similar scene on the Oregon coast. Lots of driftwood that can look very abstract. Had to do a lot of editing to make a painting out of it. Love how fresh you keep your colors. I think I need to do more of that. I tend to use too much water and not get as saturated as you do. Thanks for the lesson!

Thanks very much. Yes, it’s worth remembering that watercolours tend to dry lighter and allow for that and water is the element that is hardest to control. Paint consistency is always difficult to judge. I often tell students to paint with watercolour not coloured water. Thanks for getting in touch. Good luck.
