The thing that sets Beyonce apart in my opinion is her control and her ear. I've literally never heard her miss a note. She has mastered going up and down the scale and can sing the exact note she means to sing without being sharp or flat. That takes extreme talent.

I think beyonce has one of the best ears ever. She can find any part of a song that is potentially missing a note or tone and fill it to bring out the best quality of that chord in a song.

I'd like proof of this. Beyonce a Virgo who arranges her vocals and her music to suit her vocals so I doubt she's doing that. I'm not trying to shade, I'm genuinely wondering how you came to this conclusion? She works her arrangers and band to death. It's hard for me to believe that she'll get on stage and fill in. Are you referring to rehearsal footage? While, in her performance videos, I've heard her do vocal variations... but the musical arrangements are (disclaimer: almost) always consistent. Almost like THIS is the map... let ME choose to take it off course or not.

OneLoveRSR I'm referring to her live shows and her harmonies alone are always different than your average 3 part harmony. Something like get me bodied, which is a simple song, but that's just a drum beat and her voice is making all of the chord changes. Also, look up la voz beyonce free styling. Some of them are redundant videos, but you'll get the gist.

@@Dileesa I think you have to also follow her live performances because that is where she showcases her capabilities. I believe and am pretty sure that you made an analysis regarding her studio productions. Her tours are full of complex vocals. Her coloratura technique is so perfect and her fioratura and embelishments are just out of this world.

This was really interesting. Sometimes I miss the staccato stuff from Destiny's Child. That said, I love rich and powerful her voice is now. She's definitely matured into one of the classic divas x

What makes Beyoncé stand out among singers recently is her capacity to deliver a vocal performance while doing choreography and visuals. Other singers mess up by just standing but she can deliver an almost flawless performance visually and musically. She sounds even better live than on record. When she starts singing, I always feel safe and secured that she’s not gonna mess up. She puts in sooo much work and that’s worth noting. She’s right, Bey matured greatly on her craft. I was expecting more technical (or detailed?) analysis on her technique and range but this is still a good one.
@ZeekStreet

See it's that thought of *messing* up that doesn't make any sense. She's *human* whether you believe that or not and like you and I we make mistakes. It's safe to say Beyonce has structured her live performance or *craft* in a way to NEVER mess up because of the fear these *stans* have LMaooooo

@@ZeekStreet Really? Or more possibly, just like what she's been saying, she has so much passion for her work that's why she doesn't stop working to be better. Every after performance, she watches again to note where she needs to improve. She rehearses 16 hours a day, she doesn't have time for stans.

To me, there's a HUGE difference between Beyonce's studio version and live version. Her live voice is much fuller and deeper. I have a suspicion that the producers wanted her to sound less "black" or gospel to reach a wider audience. It's the same with her album covers. At least the early ones. They made her skin much lighter.

This is the only accurate analysis of Beyonce's voice that I've ever heard. She definitely grew a lot over the years. What her super fans don't seem to understand is that Beyonce has been around for a very long time. She didn't come out the gate killin' it vocally, and there were plenty of singers who could outsing her. It was her tenacity and continued training that got her to where she is today, creatively and vocally.

My thoughts on Beyonce's voice. Hmm...I think that her voice as of now vs. Like 1998 has really matured. I agree with you when you say she isn't the best singer or vocalist. Don't get me wrong she isn't the worst, but I don't really think there is a such thing as a "best" singer. You can never truly compare her to anyone, because each singer has their own voice rather it be distinctive or not. All I can say is god gave her a voice and she puts it to use.

As a part of hive I agree with everything she said. Lots of the younger fans doesn't really remember when she 1st came on the scene. In DC I agree she was unique but she learned how to do other things with her voice. Her voice has changed a lot. If you're a fan you know that. I'm more of a fan of her voice now than earlier years.

Raff J LOL but it's easier to sing soft if you have a powerful voice. You just literally have to bring it down. On the one hand, Beyonce's voice is NATURALLY deep and thick so that even when sings low, it's still thick. And guess what? A thick voice in a lower register is praised MORE than the airy ones because it just shows that even when it's very low (Beyonce can go as low as F2), she still has the weight of her voice and the vibrato in the lowest register which is amazing. I love Whitney but her strength is on the middle to upper register (in chest voice of course). Competing with someone like Beyonce who has a natural low voice in a 'lower register competition' is just delusional for most female artist!

I honestly feel In terms of SKILL. Beyoncé is the best that did it.. “Taking time to perfect her craft Beyonce is the Best that did it” (Lashawn Daniels) Was she a vocal Prodigy like A Jazmine Sullivan? NO Was voice Mature and as Powerful as Whitney Houston’s? NO Is she able to hear things and do things vocally that They Can’t do? YES Beyoncé has mastered the Science of Singing. Whitney never did. She was very Limited in where she was able to go vocally. Yes it was power and ranged filled with a little sprinkle of Baptist flare.. But Beyonce just like Brandy took that and Broke barriers People have to listen. She admitted that Beyonce started a sound that had never been done before in music. That Alone is the Stamp of a great vocalist. Because after Beyoncé came out with that sound people started to copy her the same as they Copied Aretha and Whitney.. she also explained that Beyoncé’s voice began to fit on ballads.. I think Her voice voice was always big & she used it how she felt she wanted and did what she knew. And We ALLLLL Loved it. imo Beyoncé especially during her studio sessions is a very experimental Vocalist and very creative & free, she’s able to play with her tone, use her tone & placement. Her live requires a different use of her voice , especially for the type of artist she is, which does extreme choreography, so she has to sing harder.. she has perfected that craft.

I was curious to see what you were gonna say about her technique and what this particular vocal analysis would sound like.I must agree with you that her singing voice has matured over time in a strong way. She has so much more power now versus a decade ago. When you mentioned that her voice was lighter but is now becoming more round/fuller with age. I would have to agree with that too! I hadn't noticed how early on she really only used a small range of her voice during the destiny's child age and now she has really set herself free vocally in the past few years. Especially during the release of "b'day". I respect her vocals and she obviously works hard to improve them on a regular basis. Good job! Best, Marvin

So informative. I do agree with what you are saying (well I don't have the knowledge you have to disagree lol). First off you acknowledged one thing that I think no one talks about: how much her voice has grown, and how different she sounds: her voice was admittedly whiny/thinner while younger, though I do think she had some good moments, but that's just a stan talking. As a stan, for me that is one of the reasons I love her as a singer, because she does take her voice seriously, and it has developed throughout her career. Also I do want to point out that I do think she started to explore her voice more with every album she has released. Survivor gave us more head voice moments (though a lil wobbly). Also I think people miss Destiny's Fulfilled as an important era vocally. I think that is when her voice actually developed into what it is today (or late in the Dangerously In Love era). B'Day is the album where she picked up her stylistic habits (the growling, and all that). Also Cadillac Records came 2-3 years after Listen was released (which was on Dream Girls/B'Day). I don't know if you know that (or if that was even the point) I just wanted to point out the different time periods. I hope you don't take this as me just trying to correct you or anything, just wanting to insert some of my thoughts. Thank you for this video like all of your others ones.

I mean you’re right almost. I think the most authentic Beyonce came on Survivor. That to me is equal to What Brandy did on Full Moon. You are so apt in your analysis of Beyonce's voice. It definitely has evolved over the years. I used to look up to singers who do lots of trills and riffs and runs as being greater singers than those who just sing well but I have learnt in my singing journey that the voice can be used in many ways and the best singers can make use of all the different capabilities which the voice has. So for example I have so much respect for Alicia Keys because even though she does not use a lot of riffs and runs she is one of the best singers I have heard because of her technique and the strength in her overall contralto range. One singer who I love so much who can do all things with her voice is Jazmine Sullivan. Could you analyse her voice for your audience?

You had a lot of great points as always!!! But I think she's grown so much with her voice since Destiny's Child! She most definitely over did the runs & her vibrato when she was younger, but once her second album, B'Day came out. And she had songs like Resentment, I think she finally found her voice! She learned to control and tame those out of control runs, and her voice was at it's best! & with each album, her vocals showed growth. She really learned to dig deep and pull out those big belts on her 4th album with songs like I Care & Love On Top. Now, with this 5th album, she's fully comfortable with her voice and she knows what she can and can't do with her voice. I think she's finally come into her own & is most definitely an underrated vocalist.

I agreed with a lot of the points you brought up in this video, however I don't think you gave enough credit where credit is due. You didn't touch upon some of her greatest attributes as a vocalist. She possesses one of the most agile voices that pop music has ever heard. Some of the runs she performs I can't even break down without sitting down at a piano and dissecting it. Secondly, although you touched upon the dark color of her voice, you didn't touch upon her great support that she has down

@@Dileesa She is as agile as they get. Her vocal profile and her execution match that of coloraturas in opera. Her head voice is super connected and powerful and thick (kind of reminds me of the deep sea) and her runs are super crisp. You told how Beyonce was an immature singer when she was young, but Beyonce was doing messa di voce during 2003 flawlessly, her crescendos and diminuendos were perfectly executed. And I have an issue with you labelling vocal distortion as screaming. Her approach to growling is extremely healthy and hasn't taken any toll on her voice and being a mezzo she supports till F5 which is remarkable.

@cesar garces show me a clip of beyonce sounding bad? *crickets* 🤣. That bitch has mastered her own voice, her technique is almost flawless or perfect, her placements, even her growls are so well placed that it doesnt sound bad or even terrible, when you get past the beyonce is a performer hangover and listen to her especially live performance you will be taking notes because if you want to be a great singer you need to study beyonce's perfection, her switches from head to chest voice and chest to head voice is so smooth it hurts, (beyonce, mariah carey and whitney are geniuses in this department). Every note beyonce has tried to belt she hit them perfectly, you can bring any video to counter this claim, I cant say the same for any other singer infact you can get videos of them mis hitting notes or notes abruptly breaking and thining out or fading or not even able to finish the notes. Beyonce knows her voice so well it's like a masterpiece machine. Her technique when you remove the blindness in your eyes is extremely flawless the only artist with such extreme technique is Mariah (but that's the old mariah)

No. I always thought Kelly was the singer of Destiny's Child. But when it came time for her to do her thing, she always fell short. Like she needed DC by her side. Now Michelle surprised me because I never listened to a song long enough to hear her part. But a friend sent me a video of DC singing "Through With Love" live somewhere on the other side of the water and when I say she went off. SHE WENT OFF! Singing for the Lord is her lane. Very professional and unbiased opinion on Beyonce voice. Beyonce's voice has flaws but through hard work time and effort, she was able to expand it and grow. Like most singers, some people are born eith big voices and some people have to train and train and thats what beyonce did, she fine tuned her voice to cater to her. What I like most about beyonce's voice is that she doesnt strain, whatever comes out that day is what your gonna get, and she caters to it throughtout the whole performace. Not going up or down the ladder just exactly where it needs to be. More recently beyonce voice has thickened quite a bit and has gotten much darker and deeper in tone and she sounds literally amazing. I missed thos high belts, like in Halo and listen but now, her voice is so mich more rounded and deeper and resonates soooo far. She has truly came into her own, not trying to sound like anyone else but her. She has such a disctinctive voice, and it almost cant be copied. I have always loved the way she layered her songs with her own vocals, sort of how michale Jackson did.

bye, stan. Nobody cares if shes YOUR role model. This is someone who critiques voices because she knows what she's talking about and shes a singer herself. kiara montiero No. there really isn't. And I never said I wasn't a stan. I like to consider myself a singer as well and this lady does not have a voice to be coaching or analyzing(whatever she claims to be) anybody's voice. Her version of "me, myself and I" needs help. She wish she could sing like Beyonce

WhitneYonce` she doesn't try to sing like Beyonce. You don't need to in order to be able to sing. Everyone's got a different voice. And you've proven my point: Bye, stan, because y'all the ones who believe there is no other but your Queen B and honestly you're 10000% wrong but there is no point in arguing because your delusional and devoted to your idol worship, it blocks any possibilty of an open mind. So again, bye stan. "I'm not saying this cus she's dissing Beyonce..." "And I never said I wasn't a stan. I'm a super fan..." x'DDDDDD ROFLMAO

How can you say you know her voice development in the early days when you don't follow her or listen to everything live or studio.. Dangerously in love is when she developed a lot. From destiny's child it was all about RUNS and dangerously in love displayed soulful sooth smooth elegant RNB. BDAy her 2nd album is when she showered her power capability that she always had. Sasha fierce was a mixture of both as there are two CDS. 4 is the cd that displayed her best vocals, she shows all types of levels of singing.

I agree With her On Almost everything that she said except I felt like when she was talking about Bey's Vibrato she was talking about it as if it was a down side to her voice which I might disagree with because her Intensive Vibrato Is What Sets her apart from all of her peers. I Mean Honestly Name One artist from her generation that hes a consistent vibrato that literally starts from the 2nd Octave up to the 6th Which is 3+ Octaves And Also I Didn't understand what she didn't like about her Crescendos because Many Legendary singers and this is something that I've Noticed in their performances when they try to do Crescendos They usually try to pull the mic away from their mouths and then subtly push back to their mouths to give the Illusion that they did a *Crescendo* Where Beyonce Would Keep The Mic Exactly where it is And Control The Volume of her Voice And The Support of Her Breath To Do A Crescendo And What Proves doing crescendos to her is just as easy as anything else she does is she Did a Crescendo On A C5/D5/Eb5/E5 & F5. But Yeah Other then That I Love This Video

Hi Dileesa, this is a truly great video and explains alot , thanks for sharing . I personally always used to think her vibrato was excessive also, but when ive learnt how to get real vibrato, it has comes from a certain feeling and emotion that I carry. Perhaps that vibrato is just how beyonce feels when she sings from her inner self and feelings. I'm on a singing journey myself and learning to use the instrument I have , so your feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks . Tess

Hello. I like all your videos. Your breakdown of Brandy was great, for example. I know hindsight is 20/20 but I wish you had the same title for Beyoncé (Vocal analysis) rather than How to sing like Beyoncé as the title of your video because it fit what you were saying. That being said, I agree with much of what you say though especially when you said her vocal growth fits with her age and length of time in the industry. She's learned how to use and project her voice better, she has greater understanding of musicianship, and though she's not a "powerhouse" in the sense that she has a "massive voice", but her understanding of dynamics make up for it and like Primohomme said, she's one of the great non operatic "Coloratura"(I put this in quotes because operatic fach for non classical singers are controversial) Mezzo Sopranos in Mainstream entertainment history. I have a suggestion for your vocal analysis, I would love for to give a similar analysis to Jennifer Hudson. Provided that you have studied the nuances of her vocal stylings. Fantasia too. Thanks in advance.

Hi,I have a question how hard to go from your natural voice(that you used to sing in choir(I’m baritone, and I’m actually happy with it))to more like r&b singing?I mean I do a lot of singing pop and even sometimes try something of Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse, but it turns out to sound not natural, chesty and even might be falseto(only in past, now I fixed just by using breath right way,but while singing rnb it’s sound really not common(might be because of that fact that I’m baritone, and used to sing kinda in low key))...What do you sing is there any way to learn singing in all genres and without losing your feats in one of them?
