How to Skin a Bear with Steven Rinella

More bear come into the taxidermist screwed up than not. The skinning cuts are made in the wrong places, the hides are full of holes, or the faces are ruined.
Since it's a tragedy to see such a badass animal not taken care of properly, Steve worked with John Hayes, from Hayes Taxidermy Studio, to produce this video. Consider this an education tool to make sure your next bear rug shows up to the taxidermist in tip-top shape. Don't go bear hunting before you watch it.

I struggled through skinning bears my first few times, Still remember trying to get those bones out of the feet, getting the nose and trying to skin out the ears.. I was taking the hide to a tannery so I didn't have the luxury of leaving fat on or "letting the taxidermist" deal with it.. It had to be 100% prepped

Very interesting point on care after skinning, and to let that hide cool overnight before rolling it up. Would not have thought the hide would have any heat in it after all the time taken to skin it out.

My experience hunting the North Slope where I had bad weather and an unknown number of days to wait on an aircraft was that "scraping the hide and salting" was the way to go. I also "turned the paws" ....as it was again going to be too many days until I could get to a taxidermist. It would be good if you would go a bit further with this video and show how to do that right.
