My mom was a chaperone at my first middle school dance and I practically died of embarrassment because she kept looking over at me when a boy would start walking towards me. And when I finally started dancing with one, she hovered about 10ft away to make sure we weren't bodily touching. So Jeremy, if you're out there... Thanks for braving my mom's stares and being my first ever dance!!!!

In Australia we don't have middle school or prom. At the end of high school we have a formal. My awkward dance story: my date to the formal didn't like dancing so he just chilled with some of my other friends and watched me dance. Towards the end of the night where people were slow dancing, my friend pushes me and him onto the dance floor. Instead of dancing we just looked at each other awkwardly until the end of the song!!! IT WAS SO AWKWARD !!!!!!!

My first middle school dance ended with me crying in the bathroom because I didn't want to slow dance with my "boyfriend" of the time. Another time, one of my guy friends asked me to the dance and I said yes and while we were there he asked me to be his girlfriend. I waited a whole month until I finally said yes...I'm surprised he still wanted to go out with me after all that time. Then my last middle school dance was kind of a graduation dance for us going into high school. That dance ended with EVERYONE crying because this really nice, popular kid in our grade was moving to a different state. People who barely knew him were crying. I had probably only talked to him once in my life and I was bawling my eyes out.

in UK, we don't have middle school, it's just primary and high school (each 7 years). I remember in primary school, the dances would be like a game, almost. The DJ would play something and whoever he thought was the best dancer (FOR EVERY SONG) would win a prize ( sweets..sorry, umm, candy.) I had awkward friends who would go right up to his table in the corner and dance right in front of him, blocking his view from everyone else so they would win and they did. I think his logic was "if I just give them sweets now, they'll move" but they never did. So my dances was me trying to get my friends away from the DJ, haha. The only dance we had in high school was the formal/prom on the last year of high school...it sucked.

My middle school didn't have any dances at all except for one at the end of 8th grade to break the ice between the two towns going into one high school. I remember hesitating to dance at first, but the second I stepped onto the floor with my friends, a bunch of girls just came towards us and took me away. I had no idea who she was but we had a really great time together. Unfortunately, I never got her name or saw her again when we we graduated to high-school.

Not being a great dancer, the Cha Cha slide always got me on the dance floor in elementary and middle school. At school dances I just bought juice and cookies from the PTA table and did the side to side "I'm-holding-a-cup" dance or danced with my friends only haha.

one time in primary school my friend persuaded me to go to the Valentine's disco and of course I went. it was the 2 most awkward minutes of my life. it was just me and two other girls and I literally went in, sat down and then came back out to persuade my mum to take me home.

love watching "Lunch Break" :) one of my fave series from you guys- non-scripted, pure conversation, and personal. very fun and easy to relate to! anywho, to keep the discussion going, my first slow dance was in 8th grade with a boy i wasn't dating but was a good friend since 5th grade and my date to grade 8 graduation. he asked me through msn LOL. we're still friends now, even after high school and laugh about how terribly awkward the whole experience was but at that time, we felt like we were cool because we felt like slow dancing was a mature person thing haha. i also kept stepping on his feet because i was incapable of moving in heels... oops. the next guy i slowed dance with was in high school and is currently my boyfriend to this day... hmm i never realized how much slow dancing experience i lacked until now hahaha

I was always dancing to all the fast songs in a group with my friends, but once the slow songs came on I was the only girl among my friends who was never asked to dance so I'd go stand by the wall by myself. My first slow dance was at the Valentine's dance my sophomore year. I was 16. My 8th grade friend's boyfriend who was in 7th grade (I went to a small school so middle school and high school was combined) felt sorry for me and said the next slow song he would dance with me. It turned out to be Backstreet Boys' "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely." Not even lying y'all. It was so depressing.

I actually like slow dancing. I think it's just so much fun. I always enjoy the song, rather than the moment.. Haha or depends on who I'm dancing with. But I also actually enjoy asking guys to dance. IF I know they're going to be cool with it.

My Awkward Dance Story. I was that really shy awkward girl that didn't really have crushes but thought a few people were cute. So apparently there was this group of guys that dared the shyest in the group to ask me to dance cause they wanted to see how it would end since we were both super shy. I was just standing in a corner like you do when you were forced to go to a dance you didn't want to go to by your older sister. He came up to me and sort of just stood there. Then he did this weird hand motion thing where he motioned to me, then himself, then the dance floor. I knew exactly what he was trying to say but acted confused cause I was too awkward to talk or do anything else. I spent the rest of the time there standing in the corner. No words exchanged with anyone. I'm still super awkward and shy. Now that I think about it this may be the reason why I don't have a boyfriend. I don't think people like me so when someone asks me out I just stand there in shock and then they walk away because they assumed I didn't like them.

Wes never got rejected because he never asked a girl out. You can see it in his eyes lol.

Well there was this cute guy I kinda knew beforehand, and his friends told me he wanted to dance with me. Yeah turns out they were just joking and my poor little heart was broken 😂😅

I think the whole crew in Wong fu are all cool and I feel the way it is at dances that I used to go to in primary school. There used to be a dance that would be held at my school which would more of a disco then a dance. When I would be there, I would usually be that Asian kid sitting in a corner watching with my friends acting as if we knew something about dancing but only knew the one or two moves. This had happened from around grade 3 to 6 until we came to our formal for year 6 witch was like a graduation dinner, dance and presentation where i was forced by my friends to get the attention my crush gabby at the formal. When I first was told to do it i went out and prepared to try to do a flare and sponge which were the only two dance moves I knew. I looked across the dance floor and saw Gabrielle dancing with one of my friends or soon to be enemies. At first when I saw I was angry at my friend for it but gave up and all or nothing for it. When I was doing the flare I may have accidentally gotten to close to my friend gave him one of the biggest whack slaps to his crotch. It sent him hurling to the floor crying pretty much humiliating my self and being called to the principal and making him look like a wimp in front of the whole grade. After that I rode home on my bike in a tuxedo trying to forget the fact I whack sacked my friend of which was dancing with my former crush in front of my grade.

I just love Christine so much! I have a cousin named David Kim. Lol would have loved if that were who you talked about. ;)

my sister's daughter just had her 'father daughter school Dance" last night. but she didn't dance with her dad, step dad, grandpa, or brother. she spent the whole night dancing with her friends and one boy while her dad, step dad, grandpa, and big brother glared down every other boy who come too close. it was funny cuz the one boy she did dance with was the cutest in her class and he stuck his tongue out at them when they tried to glare at him. it was her first dance and it was so funny. so i am happy she had fun.

In my last middle school dance, the DJ was not allowed to play slow songs EVER because the school was scared things might get frea-kay or whatever. Most of the other kids just danced in groups and the people who were in the middle were could get it on because of the wall of friends that surrounded them so the chaperons couldn't see them... No boy wanted to come up and dance with me but they did come up and talked with me lol...

I've been to one dance in high school and it went like this: - friend bought my ticket so I had to go - took 30 minutes to go through 4 different rounds of security (for a public high school?) - stayed for 20 minutes then got too anxious and left All I remember is someone asked me why I wasn't dancing and I said, "I don't really like dancing." They asked "then why did you come?" and in my anxiety kicked in so I just said, "Because peer pressure" and went to stress eat some candy and call my dad.

We have this winter dance (I’m in middle school) but the strange thing is it’s during school hours. So you don’t have to pay and are forced to go. Some kids dress up. Last year I was awkward and stood in the back but this year since I have out going friends I ended up dancing and singing with them. There’s always that hope for me that someone would ask to dance but the thing is why would they? I didn’t have many guy friends and was that awkward shy girl nobody really noticed. My how my friends have corrupted me to become just the smallest bit louder. I enjoyed our dance this year but still wish someone would have asked to dance. It was a dumb crush it was more puppy love but last year I wished that this guy named Davis (basic name I know) would ask but looking back it was cringe because we never really talked. I just thought he was cute and smart. If anyone from my school reads this I’m screwed socially 😆 not like I have much of a social life though

hey guys, this episode gave me a back track to my Junior prom when a classmate of mine asked me to have a dance with him. I kinda didn't like too but he was nice to me and I felt that I owed him a dance. So, we slow danced and I was trying to maintain a full-arm length distance between us. At first, he was kinda cool with it but then halfway through the song I could feel that he was trying to pull me closer....and i didn't know what to do like there was an alarm going on in my head... eventually, I tried to make a lame excuse that I was tired and my feet kinda hurt so I need to get back to the table. I just wished that he didn't see me dancing with one of the school's hearthrobs a couple of minutes after that 😨

never had a school dance (i want to say "being asian, i never had school dances" but then i guess some of the cooler private schools might've had school dances) but i did have social dance modules for PE in 5,6,7th grade... i totally get phil's hover fingers thing

It was homecoming junior year and the guys I like was there, so I got enough courage to ask him but when I did he said yes I got so nervous and I lost him in the crowd of people. Next morning I realized that I had three classes with him and for the rest of the year was pure awkwardness 😣

Middle school dances at my school were very awkward. Most of the time there would just be a crowd of people in the center huddled in a group and then everybody else is standing at the sides drinking or eating watching those people in the center..

I think I've slow danced twice in my whole life. Once was at my very first middle school dance with a boy I later learned had a reputation of eating his boogers. The last time I slow danced was 10 years ago at my senior prom. Halfway through the last song of the night (Eve 6's "Here's to the Night"), a guy friend offered me a pity dance since I didn't have a date. It probably doesn't help that I use slow songs (at school dances and now at wedding receptions) as opportunities to go to the bathroom or drink water...

In middle school, I was a dance with just my girlfriends near the edge of the dance floor. Now when I go to weddings or clubs, I dance with my girlfriends near the center of the dance floor.

middle school dances was just all the kids smashed together and jumping for hours and when slow songs came on all of the kids except for the ones that were "dating" would leave and go sit at the tables on the other half of the gym. I was just the loser no one asked or liked so I would sit by myself because all my friends would get asked. In high school we have kinda like a break dance contest and everyone just gets really close to the people trying to be the best dancer and I am surprised someone hasn't got kicked in the face yet. I am also still the one that sits by myself on slow songs while my friends don't dance with their dates, they just sit in the bleachers too... away from me

At my grade 8 grad dance I was asked by 3 guys before the dance. One was my crush, another was a close friend who just broke up and didn't want to be lonely and the other was the weird guy on my bus who surprise asked me as we got off at our stop. I said sure to all 3 because I didn't know how to reject the bus guy and knew I probably wouldn't actually dance with him but had the intention of at least dancing with my crush and my friend but I ended up dancing all 3 slow songs with my crush haha I felt bad for them but I got my crush soo #noregrets

Actually danced with a girl for the first time this year. She could not stop laughing, she was literally shaking. We had no clue what we were doing so we just held each other and paced back and forth 😂 At least it wasn't awkward. We danced like 4 times. Turned out she was a little bonkers, though. So things didn't exactly work out. My family always seems to be attracted to the crazy ones…
