Understanding your eye shape is very important when trying to finger out how to place eye shadows to get the best effect possible. In this series i will be dealing with all eye shapes but first lets talk about hooded eyes.
Hooded eyes can often be confusing to come and when done shadow is applied correctly it really make a huge difference. I hope this video helped you.
If you have very hooded eyes with express skin that has wrinkles, then using a matte shade will really help to minimise this area.

In the late 70's-82 I was a teacher in the field of cosmetology, then I went into wholesaling to salons... Now I am retired and have been for several years. I am a 64 year old grandma with hooded eyes, who still has a love for the beauty business. You, my dear sir have done a very good job of explaining technique for SMOKEY HOODED EYES. Well, my husband woke up to a surprise this morning - me sporting full on smokey eyes (and lashes, I wanted to see how the complete look went) for the first time ever! Thank you so much for doing this Wayne, I have had hooded lids ever since a teen and am now finally able to do a proper smokey eye. Thank you doesn't seem enough really. Having never been able to do the whole winged eyeliner thing I have generally played it quite safe but this inner diva has been unleashed!

I'm biased he's the second-best my daughter's eyes beat Wayne's. Interestingly, I thought she'd maintain her violet blue tone like my great-grandmother but then later in adolescence they turned to this rare amazing blue-green tone that can change.

I wish someone would use a model with very hooded eyes. Don't get me wrong. I love your videos!! Everytime someone's says it's for hooded eyes, they do it on themselves and they barely have hooded eyes. It's so frustrating. Please get someone in there 40s..anyway, love your videos!!

Pauline Monk I am feeling ya. Same here. As I got older the crepey skin in the hooded area makes it difficult for smokey eye application without looking patchy. Like you I have used good quality eye creams for 20 years.

it is a bit distracting and I also wish he would occasionally use a model...or at least complete the look on both eyes. Because of his beard and his masculine face I struggle a bit with trying to get the full effect of the look....don't know if that makes sense. I love him though!

I was just watching this and my five-year-old daughter bounds up and asks, "Why is he puttin' on makeup?" I said, "He's a makeup artist. He makes art with makeup. Some people are artists with paint, and some people are artists with clay, and some people are artists with all kinds of things. He is an artist with makeup and he's showing us how to put makeup on our eyes." She was like, "Oh. Okay!" :-) as she trotted off in her tutu like it was of no consequence and kept on playing with her Hot Wheels cars. It didn't matter to her that a man was putting on makeup because it really doesn't matter. Like, seriously, who cares what someone else is doing if they love it?!? Kids see that, and I can't wait until adults can, too. I totally love that we have the power to raise a generation that will not see the illogical bigotry of genderism. I hope you don't mind that I shared that. Thanks for being awesome and sharing your expertise with us so generously!

Hi, I've been practicing a smokey eye look for ages. Watched loads of tutorials but it never looked the same on me. I knew I had a different eye shape because their lids were so big but I never knew it had a name (or did my research lol). This morning I came across your tutorial and it is seriously sooo helpful! Oh YAY! I have the palette and LOVE it! Also have *very* hooded eyes, with the droop.....so this is great timing. I am loving that "ugly" brown color in the palette...the one that is kind of mustard-ish in the middle. I have blue eyes, but with very heavy yellow flecks. This color is so different and looks great on my eyes. Who'd have thunk it? Well, YOU, I guess....:) I even have the Velour Complete Me lashes, so I am going to do this look tonight. So excited.

Love the vid, since I have slightly hooded eyes this will surely come in handy. Anyway, I'd like to see a video from you as to how to make asymmetric eyes appear more of the same shape and size, ideally using a model. I don't mind you using your own face for most tutorials, but with tutorials on eye shapes and such, models would help with understanding the techniques.

I would like to ask what concealer and what shade you have used here as i loved the highlighting and freshness it brought to the whole look. I have (serious) hooded eyes- (Asian eyes). I am appreciated you showing this VDO, However, it would be more effective for me to see you doing this VDO on a person with hooded eyes, just because it is not practical for me to see you do it on your (non)hooded eye.---Truly appreciated. BIG FAN!!!!

He doea have hooded eyes! Even when he closes his eyes, the hood is still on top of the lid. If you are asian then you probably ha e monolid eyes, not hooded eyes. He barely has any room to add color on his lid.

Once in awhile I been asked (esp. when younger) if I were part Asian. I'm not but my super-hooded eyes as I age almost make it seem I am. I am mostly Norwegian Manx Kalasha Slavic mixed it seems.

I like your ideas, I know you know what you're talking about but you do not have hooded eyes let alone very hooded eyes so I wish you had it on a model or someone like myself - it just doesn't translate the same for me because I don't have the eyelids like you do but I have watched this a couple times and I did try

I also have hooded eyes, but I also have such deep set eyes that it always looks as if i have dark circles or as my mom calls it "black eyes" because of this, I'm always afraid of putting a dark color on the bottom lashes because it makes it worse. Will I ever be able to balance out a smokey eye?

I have hooded eyes and dark circles. On my bottom lashes I put a very thin line of dark color, then blend it out with a medium brown eyeshadow. After that I clean under my eye, sometimes I remove some of the dark color to make it thinner, and then I apply a bit of concealer. Another way is to apply some khol pencil in your waterline and between the bottom lashes and then blend it, between the lashes, this way you make sure it's thin. When you do this you can also apply your concealer before the eyeshadow, right to your bottom lashes, and into the inner corner if its dark as well. Maybe you could try something like this, or use a highlighting concealer to brighten up the area :)

Loved this video! I did more of a brown variation, but I loved how you explain extending out to the sides and the technique really worked for my hooded eyes which turn down a bit at the sides! I haven't had success with other attempts to extend out. Thanks so much!

i had that problem up until a few weeks ago. to even out your eyelids without surgery you can use eyelid tape. got mine off amazon for a good price, and it comes with 120 pcs, so there's plenty of room for practice!

My eyes are a bit uneven as well. I usually fix it with thicker eyeliner (liquid or powder) on one side than the other. I've accepted it though and it doesn't bother me as much as it did in the past lol

Oh my god, this was sooo helpful! My eyes are not exactly hooded, but I don't have that much eye space and everytime I tried to blend my eyeshadow I would end up with color up to my brows and weird raccoon eyes... but pulling the shadow outwards works like a charm! And the shape is so flattering! I love you!

I just did this with the Paula's Choice palette and went along with you in the video, pausing as I needed to, and I just did the best smokey eye I've ever done in my entire life! I added a bit of a brown shimmer to the lid since I had some lid space peaking out and it looked gorgeous just like you said. I hope you do more tutorials with this palette!

Wayne this is the best video you have ever done, and thank you for doing it with Paula's Choice! I guess it's obvious that most people have at least some hooding and we all want that younger '90's supermodel look, and this video has spoken to us all! Take no notice of the silly comments below, you just can't please some people! After the marathon session you put in telling all of us individually what type of eyes we have, you deserve a medal and this video is the perfect end to all of that. Thank you SO much! I received the Paula's choice palette this week and I've used it non stop. It's amazing! It perfect for daytime to look 'work appropriate' and I use this with UD 1,2&3 to make evening looks more flattering and wearable. More tutorials on this palette please! X

Thank you so much Wayne. I struggle with eye makeup. I'm young and have extremely small and hooded eyes. Your brushes are great for me. I would love to see more eye looks for the extreme hood eye. Maybe something with the new UD bright palette? I just can't see myself using it.

You're fantastic. Love your videos. It's my 44th year now of being a make up artist & still learning! If I may share just a couple tricks that work for me...I clean the shadow fall out with a Q-tip swab rolled in eye cream to soften fine lines before concelor. I find a pencil brush or foam tip to blend eyeliner sometimes takes off too much product, and the smooth slightly pointed rounded end of a brush handle works nicely. OK...Please keep your videos coming!
