In this tutorial, we will go over the basics of operating a snow pusher on a wheel loader. We are operating a John Deere 344L with a standard snow pusher attached to bucket to do this snow removal. We will be going over the basics of controls, safety and best plowing practices. Have a question/comment? Feel free to leave them below!

Well this was perfect. I start my new job tonight doing this. Appreciate the video. First year operator apprentice. 😂 Been around equipment my whole life though.

I got around 17 yrs or so experience in moving snow. Ive used Skid Steers, Back Hoes, Wheel Loaders, Pickup Trucks, Dump Trucks, Farm Tractors, and a few other misc pieces of equipment. Number 1 rule and you do this before you start the job is get familiar with the lay out. Parking lot, road way, side walk, ect. Learn every man hole, water valve, storm drain, rut, high spot, ect. Mark um if possible specially if theres a lot of um. Momentum is a friend. I dont mean go as fast as the machine can go but just putting around specially after 1st passes when it really starts icing up adds more work and is harder on the machine. Hills also is best to push downhill. If equiped with chains or not to steep then uphill should not be to bad depending on steepness and terrain. I usually use 12 to 16 foot Snowdog boxes most of the time. Snow removal is 1 of my favorite things to do work weis. Just love it for some reason. Great video. Keep um coming. Oh ya. Im running a Cat 950k right now. I can move some material. Lol

Stay at least a foot away from walls, curbs, or any obstruction. Even a snow pusher makes a mess out of finished curbs and the last thing you want to do is hit a wall or parked car, etc. It's also good to have an idea where fences, fireplugs, and bumper blocks are located.

If you make a ramp with the snow you can drive on it, and stack the snow really high. But it takes alot of practicing. Using the bucket as a skid almost. And prepping the snow over time, using a new track to get a hard surface. We do that here i Norway. But we use bucket with folding "wings" a Swedish type called Multiskopa.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I've never been able to do much with a wheeled machine, usually just too soft to drive up very far.

@@HeavyMetalLearning it's hard, but once you get the snow hard packed, and after it "setts" in the cold it gets harder. But it needs to be packed by changing tracks every time you deliver snow to the ramp. And you can only have a slight inclination of like 5-8 degrees. And you need to push the snow, not carry it. Using the bucket as a ski.. and on the way down you flatten the snow so it gets hard when leaving the depot.

Hei, nice to see more of us from Norway 🤣Hilsen fra Bjerkvik!” Klappvingeplog” we call an U-shape plow , that’s what we use a lot in north Norway . And I think it’s hard to use that joystick 🕹 to control the bucket and the rest . I’m using a multi controller that have a lever for each function! Anyway keep up the good work that you do with these videos

Great set-up, very manoeuvrable. I operate one in Canada and can clear properties of most types. Very large lots, and deep snow it's able to push tons of snow. Excellent from close work around parked cars and detail work. Hats off to the crews in Minneapolis, you guys get lots of snow.

Avoid reversing, try to push snow both ways if possible. It is much faster if you can work all the time and not only move the machine. It is about finding the right pattern.

Interesting...I guess depends the turning radius. I could see that with a skid, but tougher to keep doing u-turns with truck or loader.

Always wear your seat belt I have brought a 244j with a 12 foot avalanche blade to a dead stop. Like being in a car accident! but then you have to keep plowing snow. Know your lots take it easy first couple nights out.

Yep. First time I moved snow at these mobile home courts I landed a few years back I found a man hole cover the hard way. Lol. I was chugging right along and SMACK! I few into the glass on the skid loader I was running stalled. Lol. The lap bar is not enough. BUCKLE UP LADIES N GENTS.

The pusher blades I use attach to the boom and self float with a cable, you can't apply down pressure or it rocks back. They also angle with hydraulics, and have 3 separate trip edges. A much better set up for a mill yard or places you need to turn or push long runs. Those ones that hook into a bucket are OK for small parking lots on pavement but wouldn't last a year in a lumber yard.

On these Wheel Loaders like the CAT's , is there a "Float" setting on the loader ?

How about using the float option? Don't know what it is called in english
@HeavyMetalLearning
@HeavyMetalLearning 4 года назад
Yeah, it is call float. There are a lot of operators who float pushers and I will do it sometimes, but I think it’s just a force of habit for me that I just really don’t ever like engaging float in forward (goes against training when working dirt in loader or dozer).

Never understood why guys bind push boxes to there buckets... just doesn’t seem safe to me
@HeavyMetalLearning
@HeavyMetalLearning 3 года назад
First, a lot of wheel loaders don’t have quick attach on them so it can be a process to try and remove a bucket. Second, there is much more cost for a pusher with the quick attach plate. If properly secured, there really is no safety issues.

Why not use more versatile snowattachments. In sweden we use multiskopa that can be used both as a regular bucket or like a plow. Or we use what we call v-plows ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3tcxMmE2D9I.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iz5V6CsypGY.html

Thanks for sharing man! Wear your seat belt!!! Don't put a an inexperienced operator in a machine, it will cost you in the long run with damage.

For the most part the advice given is not correct. “Saying a loader is not ideal for an open parking lot” is just ridiculous . Most properties don’t want wind rows piled on curbs. Loaders with pusher shine in large areas and cut plow times in half or more. Don’t buy a rubber edged plow with a bucket mount. In the ideal situation you want a plow that will mount to your “if equipped” quick attach system with a live edge by metal pless or equivalent. A plow of that stature Will clean better then any truck plow and will reduce salt usage by 50%. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents.

Oh, and don't use salt. It ruins your equipment. It's alot better to just deal with the snow than to deal with the slush that the salt makes...

Been doing this for seven years, w/ a Cat 730 and a box blade. One of the lots is a long, narrow rectangle with customer request to pile snow at one end of the lot. On heavy snow falls I'd plow it in a Y pattern starting at the top of the Y, either side and push it down the bottom left of the Y. Sort of like sideways slot dozing. Then used your scoop method to pile it up into the woods at the end. Saved chasing the windrow boil over. The machine could push way more than the blade could hold
