Thanks. And yeah Frank used a blues driver, and i think Ray has used a lot of different overdrives, so I’m not sure which one he used on the album. I think they all sound pretty close though anyway.
Frank said he used a jcm 900 with a dookie mod and pushed it with a bd-2 with a keely mod, I think ray used a tubescreamer style pedal with a marshal style amp so your right on point with rays tone. The best part I like about their tone it’s it almost sounds fuzzy or fizzy, you hear it more in their first record.
@@ricktold frank used a JCM2000 DSL100 and JCM900. I forget what can he was using but I think it had green back speakers? He used a chorus pedal throughout the whole black parade album for all I know. Idk ab the other albums. He uses the boss BD2 for the drive, he also uses a boost, idk what boost pedal he uses tho. Ray used JCM900, some sort of Plexi, TS9, and some other pedals. That’s all I know. Hope whatever I said can help you with the black parade album ver. :>
@@shfla7293 ray toro used a jcm800. its said in a TON of interviews about the black parade that during pre-production his jcm2000 broke down, so he ended up borrowing one of the producers jcm800s because everyone loved its loud ballsy sound.
Hi noticed some people were getting wrong frank gear almost throughout most of the tours was a sunny 4x12 with a Marshall jcm900 no mod that I am aware of and ray rig I don't really know he used a bunch of amp in studio and and live most a Randal rm100 and a Marshall 1960 cab and later on frank changed his main tone to a blues driver
Link to a comparison with/without the pedal: drive.google.com/file/d/1ifH_CHZIB0n7X-JhIJRGztQoKrLodig0/view?usp=drivesdk Starts with no pedals, then the od pedal on, then both od and eq pedals at the end.
@@ricktold Wow, thank you!! Seems like the EQ is doing a lot of the heavy lifting here. I have an MXR Dookie drive as well but I might look into getting an EQ as well.
Uhmm so i have a question and i would rlly apreciate if someone could help, first off great video man its so cool and i love it three cheers is out of all my fav guitar tone from MCR, but i was wondering if i should use my boss katana head amp along with the cabinet or should i use my fender frontman for recreating the tone? and also i have a boss blues driver and i was wondering what would be a good setting to match the tone as well Thank you sm !
I might try to do a similar video for the Black Parade, but it’d overlap a lot with this one. If I did, I think It’d be more of a “get this tone with (x) budget” type video.
Thanks! If you're getting too much sizzle, I'd recommend boosting the individual frequency bands until you figure out the one that makes the hiss the worst and then cutting that one out specifically. For me I have to do this with 3.5k a lot depending on what gear I'm using.
If I do a follow up video (which I might do to explain more about how and why I eq’d my amps and pedals like I did) I’ll be sure to put that one in. To me it sounds like the normal settings i put in the description but with a more open top end, so maybe some more presence or treble. Hope this helps!
Nice, my Katana is one of my favorite amps to play. for that i can actually give some extra advice. for settings Id try the lead channel and put the booster effect on the red led (I think that one’s overdrive)with the knob only slightly above the point where it turns on. Those two things should hopefully help make it as close as possible.
@@happycadaver07 I'd Say with gain, roll it off until it feels and sounds a bit low, and the nudge it up a bit from there. My guess would that it would sound good just under half, but since I don't have my Katana with me rn i can't really say for sure.
Hey how did you record it? Im getting into recording and I really don’t know the best way to record. Currently I use a Focusrite and FL studio and I just record clean and put effects on it. It sounds alright but I really want to get into recording my amp.
He ran his Marshall head into a load box, specifically, the Two Notes Torpedo Capture. It allows you to run your guitar amp head without a speaker cabinet, for silent recording. He also used the speaker simulation on the captor it seems.
The “studio” kind of “clinical” sound is a mostly a mix between A. Good quality recording (good mic placement or speaker simulation and good tone from the amp) B. Eq. It is SO helpful in making things sound better. In Fl studio, the parametric eq 2 is good to start with. Taking out super low/high end + removing problem frequencies does a lot to improve the sound. Im currently in the process of making a video on my whole recording process, so if you’re interested be on the lookout for that.
If you’re happy with the way your amp sounds in the room, mics like the shure sm57 are great to start with. If you want to record silently, then a load box like the two notes captor is good as well (just make sure your amp has a speaker cable connector if it’s a combo amp).
Great video! I'll sub, I try to do the best I can with the Zoom pedal I have lmfaoo, I have quite a few three cheers covers on here if you wanna see what my sound is like :D
@@ricktold I'm not sure if you've ever played rocksmith, but i'm trying to use the amps and pedals in the game to get closer to the mcr sound as i can, but i don't have the best ear to tell, if i gave you my discord, do you think you could help me with that?
