In this video you will be shown how the sphag'n'bag method for saving a rescue orchid works, how to do it, and what complications to look out for. An alternative sphag'n'bag method which is more resistant to fungal growth will be shown at the end in case the normail sphag'n'bag method does not work in your environment.

This did help me! For some reason I thought people put the orchids on the moss in the bag which sounded like trouble to me. This makes way more sense. Thanks!

Good luck! This video is great for people looking for how-to do this method properly. Unfortunately whenever I have tried it I just get mould taking over the orchid so now I just pop them on the pot of sphagnum and increase air movement which works for me 😀 I think it's more to do with my environment because I know this method really works for alot of people! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for this little zygo 😀

Yeah you either hear of it working great for people, or it becoming a mold bomb. You could always try the other method I show in the end, where you keep it in a tall vase with an open top.

@@OrchidNerd Thays a really good suggestion for an option with a little more air flow.😀 My current method works really well in my environment though so I'm not too inclined to try enclosing them as the higher humidity with no airflow seems to be the mould factor for my grow space 😆 Great suggestion for others though! 😀 people with low humidity I can imagine this being very successful for

@@OrchidNerd This is what I'm like for everything orchid when something is going well 😉😂 but then sometimes trying something different leads to a revelation....All in the name of orchid discovery right?!

Just fyi, its not a great idea to keep hydrogen peroxide in a clear container for a long period of time (like if you keep it in for future use for other projects). Hydrogen peroxide actually breaks down when exposed to light, which is why they come in a brown container :)

Where do you get perforated the bags?

I just got them at the supermarket. If yours doesn't have them, you could always perforate them yourself with, for example, a fork.

Yes white and fluffy orchids 😁 I just sphag them, bag just doesn't work for me

I guess that I'm lucky! It has helped a few of my orchids out already. And no fungal problems whatsoever :)

@@OrchidNerd If it's not to small I usually mount it on something, with good air movement they always take off (and sometimes die after taking off) your method with the h2o2 only works if you just spray the moss and the plant, it turns in to normal water really fast so you're left with an excess of water

@@YnseSchaap you are absolutely right. H2O2 turns to water almost instantly on contact with organic material. And as such it is pretty much impossible to remove all fungal spores from, for example, the moss. As I said, I have no evidence for it working whatsoever. It's just that I've done it so far and never gotten mold problems - I guess you could maybe even go so far as to call it a bit of superstition on my part, a spray for good luck 😁
